Below Zero: Copper City?!

I remember in the original game, you had to hunt for copper. Now I feel like I'm getting annoyed finding more and more chunks of it. The recipes for electronics haven't seemed to change much, yet there's just copper EVERYWHERE!

Maybe it's because I know more what to do now, but my initial feedback on the first ~2hrs of play is you've put WAY too many copper nodes in the surrounding starting area.

Subnautica Custom Images on PS4

Most of us have seen the Custom Images people can add to the Screenshot section on PC, but I'm Wondering if there's any way to add them to the PS4? Probably not possible, but I'm just Curious.

Do creatures in alien containment die without power?

I simply can not find the answer to this question anywhere. Example: if a sea base is run on nuclear reactor or bioreactor, and it runs out of power while i'm away, do all my critters in Alien Containment die? What happens?

Thank you! :)

tips on effectively exploring?

Hey everyone,

It was while I was out in my seamoth zooming about when I came across the realization that I didn't really know where I was, or, really, where anything I had previously found. This line of thought was supported by my sheer inability to find the modification station blueprint pieces ( found 1 of 3). I keep ending up and the same few places, and I'm positive I've missed a few major wrecks out there in which to plunder.

I've started throwing out beacons at wrecks/biomes/ things of interest, but it only seems to help a little.
So, I question to the crowd, how do you guys conduct your searching/exploring? Is there some method to your madness or do you just load up on food and fuel and wander the great unknown?

Sync error 0x83860012

I just upgraded to a one x and have been really looking forward to checking out the performance increase on subnautica.
However, the game save will not sync to my new one x. As the title says, I get the error code: 0x83860012. I've reinstalled the game 3x (once on a network xfer from my original Xbox), deleted/reloaded my profile, done hard resets, and even factory resets (keeping saves/data and also without). Nothing seems to work. I have an external drive being delivered tomorrow, so I'm going to try copying the game data from my original Xbox and transferring it to the new one x. But, is anyone else getting this error code? Anyone know of solutions? Right after xmas there must be dozens of us. Dozens!

Improvements to performance and gameplay of Derelict - WIP

UPDATE: Picked up the map again for further gameplay improvements. 5th techpoint and many more changes!

publish_id = "4230c53c"

Always felt it's a shame that this map is so underplayed.
Loki did a fantasic job with the visuals, the gameplay geometry for skulk movement and overall mood of the map.
But performance is terrible, the map is a bit too dark and some techpoint locations are just too open and lack more cover for aliens.
So I'm trying to fix things.

Changelog:
-Improved/Fixed Occlusion Geo (still messy in some places, but seems to be working)
-Added some rocks and more Occlusion Geo to Glass Hallway / Biome area to improve performance
-Removed many lights from the low light quality option
-Made the map slightly brighter, if you use low quality light option
-Removed "inefficent" props in the map (as in props, which weren't needed to maintain look and detail)
-Removed some lights and lot of tree and plant props at Turbine and Heat Transfer (and yet theses places are still lagging as hell, damn those plants)

-Added two more pillars and another Truck into Garage
-Added more sandrocks into Geothermal to cover the hive
-Added more of those tarp thingies in Western Entrance
-Covered one of the windows in Plaza with moss, added a 3rd row of pipes, and scaled up the crate in the middle of Plaza
to block view for better ambushing and to improve performance
-Modified pathing mesh, so you can cyst across the broken bridge in Plaza

Still to do:
-Further improvements to performance and gameplay
-Fixing all those tiny cracks throughout the entire map

Fun creature idea

A nocturnal fish that has access to all the leviathan sound files in the game, it’s harmless but when startled mimics the sounds of a leviathan to scare away predators, I think a fish with this mechanic could really mess with the players.

Add more customization in below zero. Lighting, interior colors, etc...

One thing I always wanted in the original game was to change the color of the interior cyclops lighting. Additionally, you could change the interior lighting of bases, vehicle headlights, and the flashlight too. You could add a craftable LED that would allow you to do this and put into the base/vehicle/flashlight.

From Subnaughtica to SubSanta:

Spinner Fish - I hope it will be possible to add these to the aquarium

Models - Seamoth, Prawnsuit and Cyclops models in addition to the Aurora model (and maybe a little seatruck choo choo train!)

Decor/furniture etc: so far it looks like exactly the same items will be available. But there are many already existing items that weren’t buildable in the first Subnautica, that could be added (two seat benches, smaller/personal lockers, desks with no computer interface on the surface...) and a few new items in Sub Zero (small planters, small picture frame) that would make nice additions. I especially liked the oval planter on Robin’s bed in the first base. Some comfy chairs wouldn’t hurt either. Or larger meeting room tables. (Maybe mostly for when you’re playing creative and build bases for several people for the fun of it, though.)
Oh and it’d be neat if there was a choice of colours for “fabric” items, such as the couch and bed, if nothing else.

Regarding the mini-frame - unless it’s already intended to be used with screenshots (or the selfies I’ve seen mentioned, though Robin doesn’t seem like a person who’d bother with those), I think it’d be neat with a small premade collection of images to choose from, e.g. Robin’s sister Sam, the two of them, a fav pet or two, a signed pic with her and her idol xeno-linguist at a science convention, to mention a few ideas.

“Pickupable” items: coffee cups, pens, clipboards and such would be nice if they could be picked up and used to make your base looked more lived in. Even if Robin is on her own for the moment, there are more people and more research stations on the planet now, so more living items and clutter and such makes sense. And we have shelves but very little to put on them.

Lab equipment - I’m hoping we’ll have access to some of the new stuff seen in the “intro”. But I also think the old “non-functional” items could do with an upgrade. This is supposed to be in a space faring future but those pieces of equipment look like they predate my school years (and I’m not young anymore).

Lighting - I know the game has a warning about flashing lights, but I also hope the flashes will be adjusted (a bit more) to show less and less the deeper you go as well as be gone inside caves and such. I’ve no diving experience but I also feel that maybe the water should “soften” the flashes a bit...
As I’ve mentioned elsewhere, the seatruck have very strong lights. Besides my suggestion (other thread) of them turning off automatically at docking, I think they’d benefit from some more tweaking. When inside ice tunnels and similar I hardly see a thing, because the lights just cause a bright blur. Maybe two should be directed forwards and two more to the sides so they don’t all light up the same exact area...
At the other end, it does make sense for deep waters to be very dark or even pitch black but sometimes that too makes it very difficult to see much. A bit of “artistic liberty” might be nice with regards to this... (Bioluminiscence isn’t always enough...)

Seamonkey behaviour: it would be neat if they’d come up to the base windows if you’re inside looking out. (Or even try to grab your tools through the glass looking consternated when they can’t :D)
Brute sharks - those darned things ate my seatruck! o.O Seeing as they seem to like it around the sea emperors, though, one would think maybe that enzyme could help make them a bit nicer in that area :p

for creative mode, an option to skip the “intro” (if you just want to play around building an awesome base, you might not want to have to play through that bit every time).

Heatfruit - I’m guessing it’ll start decomposing once we have planters for it... But I do wish the inventory icon would look more like the fruit and less like little maggots... (ew)

....aaaaand I’m sure I’ll come up with plenty more, especially since Sub. Zero isn’t finished yet.

"Save data saving failed..." Error, Can't Save on PC

I play SN on an iMac and am enjoying the game tremendously. My father purchased the standalone game for his PC (fully updated Windows 10, laptop is less than 2 years old) from an on-line retailer, i.e., not Steam or Epic. We got the game to load and run by launching in Administrator mode, but when he tries to save a game, he gets the following error in a red SN error dialog:

Save data saving failed (Access to the path "C:/ProgramData/Unknown Worlds/Subnautica\TempSave\tmp171232\CellsCache\baked-batch-cells-9-18-7.bin" or "C\Program Files (x86)\Unknown

uvwda0r4zx7b.jpg

I assume that there is more to the message, but that is all that will fit in the dialog box. Note the changing direction of the slashes in the first path. I don't know if that's significant or useful. From what I've read about other users' save problems, my lead suspect is a permissions issue, but I have not had a chance to get back to the PC to investigate that in detail.

I have not seen an example of this specific Save problem in this or any other forum I've searched, though it now occurs to me that if someone was having a Save problem, even if they were using Steam or Epic, I might be able to adapt the solution to the regular Windows file structure that Dad's game is installed in.

Also when I get back in front of the PC, I will try to submit a report through the in-game feedback system, though I'm not sure if it will be able to capture the dialog because I don't know if F8 will be working while the dialog is showing.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

BELOW ZERO: Anyone having trouble making batteries?

So I haven't played Below Zero in a while, and when I started a new game, I haven't been able to find a single ribbon plant anywhere. This has rendered me unable to make batteries and thus unable to advance the story. Am I missing something obvious?

Any idea where or how I get it back, or is it just gone? Haven't crafted a second one, because I'm not going to start a loop of crafting / losing items. There were no in-game tips or quest log, so I've no idea if I'm supposed to just give up on it, or waste time searching. Anyway, thanks for any help.

[Below Zero] Probably a WIP thing but weird anyway...

When I visited the Snowfox Base I noticed an upturned box under the (non-collideable) stairs. It needed a laser cutter to be opened. Well, it took me forever to find the second half of the laser cutter blueprint but I could finally make one, and went back to the base. It "burned" the box for a short bit, using up some battery but not leaving a mark. Then the box was no longer interactive and I could not use the laser cutter on it anymore. Nor could I pick up an item (I waved around frantically above the box, thinking maybe it got turned over the wrong way and had it's opening into the ground :p)
And I was soooo curious about what might be in there!

Did anyone else also experience this? Or did something go wrong just in my game :|

Translators main thread - French

Hi there

After having worked on the French translation, I though I'd try opening this thread in case fellow translators would fancy debating over the details of the most polemical entries (like for example translation of some proper names). Maybe one day we'll get a discussion tool integrated in the translation website, but in the meantime a forum thread should do the trick. Maybe it would be possible to add a link to this thread in the web app?

Since the thread is specifically about French translation, i hope the mods won't mind we write in French here and there, although please try to use English when possible, so that the devs can eventually give some guidance when they see fit.

You can discuss here, and you create and vote for entries in the official translation website!

"Nos Manere" (we remain) - a Subnautica story

$

We all have moments where we wish for something left behind. From something as important as a childhood friend in our old hometown to something as trivial as a wallet left behind on the counter. A month ago I wished for my hoverdriver's license when I was pulled over for speeding in a moment of bad judgement. Regret and loss go hand-in-hand with self-judgement - blame for not thinking ahead or choosing more wisely. Even, sometimes, when we couldn't possibly have known about the imminent need.

Predicting the future has always been a tricky business for us mere mortals. Even something as simple as discerning the weather a few days from now is uncertain enough. In the blink of an eye one's priorities may be drastically altered. Someone in perfect health may suddenly be in desperate need of medical supplies after a car wreck. A tent might be an amusing toy to a CEO one minute, then invaluable shelter the next when his private jet crash-lands.

So it is that once again I find myself awake late at night in my circular 'apartment' unable to find either the sleep that I need or the answers that I want. With sunlight long since gone my only illumination is from the faintly shining screen of my PDA. The only sound is the occasional bass moans of a Reefer, echoing throughout the metallic structure of my new home.

And on the opposite end of the habitat I wonder what Katy will be missing.
