Steam controller does not work properly (ie. simultaneous input from mouse and analog joystick)

So I've tested this extensively and if you are using the right trackpad as a mouse on the steam controller, it disables the analog joystick and the analog shoulder buttons. This is a key feature of the steam controller so I'm wondering if the devs could add support. It used to work but for the last year or so it hasn't. All you need to do is allow analog joystick inputs at the same time as mouse inputs.

What do you do if a reaper leviathan grabs your seamoth? Do you get out and swim away? Or do you stay inside?

What if a reaper attacks your cyclops? Do you try and escape at full speed? Or do you turn on silent running and try and slip away unnoticed?

I'm just curious what you all do in these scenarios.

[Sub Zero] Seaglide Battery Swap Issue + Table Coral Samples Cannot be Picked Up Issue

1) When hitting R to swap out the battery source of my Seaglide, quite frequently I get the text menu (hit these keys to swap) with no graphics of the actual battery options. At this point I cannot close or reset the menu in game, and I have to restart the entire game to fix it.

2) A lot of the time, when I slice a Table Coral with my knife, the "Sample" pieces will drop but be completely untargettable and I cannot pick them up or interact with them at all. This was especially frustrating when trying to build 5 Advanced Wiring Kits for the Sea Truck.

Borealis Rising - A Subnautica Story, V2.0.
By: Bugzapper (Lee Perkins).

CHAPTER ONE

Unlike a certain Mr. Samuel L. Clemens, the reports of my death are entirely accurate.

Alexander Fergus Selkirk lived to the ripe old age of 115 years, and died three times in the process. We're not talking about any 'dying on the operating table'- type deaths, either. The first time, I blundered into the path of a hungry Stalker and paid the price for my singular lack of caution. All things considered, I got off extremely lightly. Having a working Valkyrie Field in the Lifepod gave me a second chance, and I dare say that I learned a valuable lesson from that experience.

Considering that this planet is essentially a heaving mass of aquatic life forms with a marked taste for human flesh, it would serve you well to keep your wits about you. If you've accessed my earlier log entries, you'll probably be aware of the most prevalent threats that planet 4546B (a.k.a 'Alpha Hydrae IV' or 'Manannán') has to offer. I have done my best to provide a broad assessment of each alien species encountered so far, including their general appearance, typical behaviour patterns and perceived threat levels. Please be advised that this information is by no means complete and highly subject to revision, since this planet has entered a state of accelerated evolution. It is entirely possible that new life forms are appearing even as this account is being written.

Yes, you did read that last sentence correctly.

My second death was a rather more unpleasant surprise. Approximately eight months after Aurora crashed on this planet, a Torgaljin Corporation commercial frigate arrived and commenced highly secretive operations near one of my undersea bases. Since I had already launched a deep-space distress beacon by that time and the frigate De Ruyter had made no obvious attempts to contact me, I became immediately suspicious of their intentions. A few days later, a Torgaljin security team entered my base and I was murdered by their leader, Invigilator Galen Tomar. After being restored to life by the Valkyrie Field, I commenced a retaliatory action that culminated in the destruction of De Ruyter and the loss of its crew. This particular outcome was not at all intentional, although the follow-up operation against Torgaljin Corp's base in the Lava Castle was entirely successful and no further human lives were lost during our assault on this facility.

As for what happened to the inhabitants of the Torgaljin base in the aftermath of that raid, I can only speculate how events might have unfolded. As the Lava Castle base has been effectively isolated for the past hundred and two years, I am understandably reluctant to carry out a detailed reconnaissance mission in order to ascertain whether anyone is still alive down there. Camera drones have been sent there on several occasions, although they were deliberately made to be unable to operate the base's airlock controls. My greatest concern is that Torgaljin personnel might capture a more sophisticated drone and begin reverse-engineering its more accessible components. Considering that I took particular care in completely shutting down Torgaljin's illegal operations on this planet, I had no intention of handing over what amounted to an instant technological advantage. They were slapped down hard, and I want those bastards to stay slapped down.
Permanently.

[Below Zero] Probably a WIP thing but weird anyway...

When I visited the Snowfox Base I noticed an upturned box under the (non-collideable) stairs. It needed a laser cutter to be opened. Well, it took me forever to find the second half of the laser cutter blueprint but I could finally make one, and went back to the base. It "burned" the box for a short bit, using up some battery but not leaving a mark. Then the box was no longer interactive and I could not use the laser cutter on it anymore. Nor could I pick up an item (I waved around frantically above the box, thinking maybe it got turned over the wrong way and had it's opening into the ground :p)
And I was soooo curious about what might be in there!

Did anyone else also experience this? Or did something go wrong just in my game :|

A list of various problems I found after the Snowfox update.

Veteran Diver here. I found a small assortment of noteworthy things during gameplay of BZ, especially after the recent Snowfox update. Cheers!

- Upper half of the screen goes blindingly white during intense blizzards, even underwater
- Some ore deposits spawn inside solid terrain where they are inaccessable
- Snowfox beaches itself in random areas of the Glacial Basin (Even though It's a freaking hoverbike hahaha)
- Vesper can be seen from underwater (imo it really shouldn't be visible at all, because it's in s p a c e)
- Moons of 4546B are clearly visible underwater despite always obstructed by clouds and weather
- Certain base furniture is affected by lighting issues
- Base exteriors are black (Unsure if this is intended, if so then cool!)
- Scanning room computer screens are visible outside of base and across the map
- Scanner room windows are very blurry and only certain textures like hydrothermal steam clip thorugh
- Base structural support elements spawn and despawn frequently, or don't spawn at all
- Base A.I. will greet you as if entering when leaving the base through the moonpool sometimes
- Stasis rifle projectiles will sometimes phase right through solid terrain
- Table Coral Samples sometimes 'stick' to the player and 'unstick' inside bases where they cannot be manipulated or removed
- Ores and Table Coral Samples sometimes phase through solid terrain when dropped or harvested
-

My creature fanmade concepts for next DLC - and more!

I'm working on fanmade concept arts for Subnautica, and have a lot, lot of ideas... It would be great if some of them would be used in the future :)

My imagined DLC of Subnautica is called "Into the Abyss" or similar. Main megabiome would be great Green Lagoon, and there would be few smaller biomes:

- Sandy Islands - something similar to islands from Subnautica, but more flat and sandy (like Maledives).

- Coral Reef - big, colorful and quite peaceful.

- Warm Meadows - great underwater meadows with green grass, dolphins, crabs and many other species (like Everglades).

- Spiky range - great mountain range, formed by fossilized remains of gigantic, ancient creatures. I'll love to see something like this in Subnautica!!!

- Giant Sponges Zone - area with a lot of sponges, small, medium and giant. Player can swim through the holes in them like in the caves.

- Blue Holes - it's actually something that appears on our planet, you can google it :) I think it would be entrance to big cave systems or the Abyss.

- Abyss - something like the Void, but with more life. Very dark and creepy biome. There would be lot of strange invertebrates, anglerfishes and leviathans.

- White Coral Reef - zone with gigantic, white corals with many holes (player can swim through them).
-

Now, some of the first concept arts:

Subnautica Below Zero Truck and Moonpool Issue

$

I parked the Sea Truck into the moonpool in Subnautica Below Zero and when I jumped in it, it detached from the moonpool and then sat there. The hands were shaped as if they were holding the controls but are above the controls. I can try to move forward and reverse, the reversing mirror appears if I go into reverse, but the truck won't move in either direction or swing left or right when I move the mouse. I tried a couple of times by quitting and loading the game but each time, the bug happened. I then tried deconstructing the Moonpool around the truck and then tried to get in it but the Enter Sea Truck action wouldn't appear. Reconstructing the Moonpool around the Sea Truck did nothing as when I approached the Sea Truck, I got the message that no vehicle was docked. So now I have to build a new Sea Truck as that one is totally unusable.

Game will not properly save&retain my fullscreen display res of choice ingame : 1440 p
Upon load it will first show 1440p as exspected , reentering the options menu then shows 4k res
How di i know its not just an UI bug&cosmetic only? Because my framerate gets cut in half when it happens :)
Change it again to 1440p works until next game restart

Windows runs at 4k so not the same as game res for obvious performance reasons i had to resort to 1440p ingame

Hey guys!

Subnautica is currently in Early Access and as such you may from time to time encounter bugs and in the worst case, crashes. If you have issues with stability of Subnautica, please post your issues with as much detail as possible (video/screenshots/descriptions), followed by the following requested information:

Example Topic Title:
[Crash] Open my Locker and Crash! [Version Number]

1) Please run dxdiag.exe (search windows for it) on your systems and hit the button 'save all information' in the bottom right. Save this file for later.

LHmLsSd.png

2) Navigate to your Subnautica Folder in Steam (should be steamapps\common\Subnautica)

3) Open the Subnautica_Data folder and grab a copy of 'output_log.txt'

PJAwuF0.png

4) Upload all the text of these to something like http://pastebin.com/ and post the public links to them with your forum posts.

These 2 files will GREATLY help us in tracking down issues with Subnautica. Thanks!

Edit by Jonas:
We've also got a very similar guide with pictures for each step on Steam.
And as in every good tech support:
  • Please make sure that your Windows is up to date.
  • Please make sure that your drivers are up to date.
  • Please make sure your PC meets the minimum system requirements.
  • Please close all other applications before starting the game.
  • Have you tried turning it off and on again? ;)

[BUG] Shaders and texture don't load- HELP! [13740]

I've been reporting this since the early access released and haven't gotten any help.

Every time I try to play Below Zero the geometry shaders and textures won't load. I've been trying to fix this since early access release.
I tried reinstalling, turning it off and on again, verifying the integrity of game files and scrolling through the bug forum for answers.

I'm a huge fan (I've stuck through the original Subnautica's early access, then bought Subnautica in Steam and for my PS4 and replayed a billion times) and I'm so upset that I can't figure out how to get it to work. If the ambient occlusion is turned off then I can't see anything at all but bare minimum water graphics. I've tried reinstalling and checking the files for corruption. I'm dying to play this game!

[Bug] Cannot start a new game; pause menu unusable and I can swim away from it]

$

My Subnautica is currently un-playable. Upon starting the game up it will take me to the title screen and show new game, load game, options, the news board, etc. However the background which is usually water is black. Upon starting a new game it will get to the point where it says "press any button to continue". Upon doing so the screen will just go black and nothing happens. I have to open task manager and force close the game. I am using the stable version, not experimental.
If I choose to load one of my two games it will go to the loading screen correctly and the game will start playing. However if I open my pause menu, the menu comes up but the game doesn't pause. I can hover my mouse over the menu options and they turn orange but when I click they won't do anything and I drown with the pause screen up. Upon further tinkering I found that I could swim away from the pause menu. It will stay in place where I opened it and I can swim towards it and away from it to the point it is no longer in sight. I also found that pressing F8 will not bring up the feedback menu.
I don't have any more information as a month ago I was playing the game with no issues, but when I started it up a week ago these issues started, so I have no idea what possibly could have triggered this issue. I have even completely uninstalled the game and deleted every file pertaining to subnuatica on my computer and re-installed the game, however the issue persists. I have uninstalled and re-installed 2 times with the issues persisting. I'm at my wits end here pulling out my hair because of this. I looked around on google and I can't find anyone else having any similar issues so it seems to be just me. I payed for this game and I can't play it, this needs to be looked into. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated but if Un-installing and re-installing didn't solve the issue I'm completely out of luck it seems.

Does anyone else find the start of Below Zero kinda corny?

The first Subnautica intro was so powerfull to me. The alarms as the screen fades in, the sight of the exploding ship, waking up to a fire. Then opening up your escape pod and realizing youre all alone with nothing but the ocean and the Aurora wreck in the distance. This all happens in less than a minute and after it you get a clear signal youre all alone trying to survive. Youre a silent protagonist with no face and its easy to get immersed into your character. There are no "quests" or handholding, specialy at the start and it feels like a open world thats too grand to care about you.

In Below Zero I actualy dont like the little tour before your escape pod drops, especialy since its above water. I can buy 7000 other games with good looking science buildings and above water landscapes. I bought Subnautica expecting a impressive underwater intro. When you walk around your base, encounter a alien waygate in the first 30 seconds and have small talk with your sister, it feels like a generic shooter intro. There is less sense of dread.

My first reaction was "what kind of profesional builds a base near a avalanche and can I dig it up" and my second was "I want my sister to send me more stuff".

Also, I dont mind the protagonist being a black female LGBT if thats woke or sells better. But I do think talking ruins the immersion and reminds me I am playing a computer character in a video game.
I dont think I would had been nearly as terrified of my first reaper attack if Riley said "oh golly jeezs its a monster" and his sidekick over the phone said "Riley watch out!".

My sugestions would be:

Have a intro where you start with just a escape pod or something simmilar right away. Nobody complained that in Subnautica you dont first walk around the Aurora for 5 minutes before it crashes.

Wait a few days and do a repair mission to make the alien tech talk to you. "This waygate was always silent but decided to talk English in the first 20 sec of the game" feels like a scenario out of Scooby Doo.

Be unable to reply to your sister. So she can still send information and a few supplies from the sky, but you still feel genuinley alone and cut off. And not "why didnt my asshole sister put 700 food rations in the launch pod she sent me".

I know the developers are probably excited about their vision and hiring more voice acting with a bigger budget, so this isnt very probable to make it into the game. But I just wanted to vent a bit.

The intro sets the tone that is less opressive survival game and more disney cartoon.

After rebuilding my computer, all scores for both Subnautica and Subnautica Below Zero have disappeared. This is extremely annoying, since I was already quite far. Will this always be the case or is it still working to preserve the scores in such cases?
I'm annoying me otherwise !!!! :s
