Do you Challenge yourself while playing Subnautica

$

Giving the fact that the game has no established goals so far than plain survival i found that challenging myself sometimes keeps me pumped up to play the game :) Examples of challenges i previously set onto myself in the past. It can be any or a combination of several

Last as long as possible:

-Without making water from Airsacks
-Without making food out of any kind of fish (that one is hard, gotta last only on nutrient blocks then creepvine at beginning before reaching the island for fruits/vegetables/plants
-Without killing any fish whatsoever (that one is hard too specially after getting the seamoth, its hard to not speedbumps any of those lil buggers)
-Without getting damaged at all
-Without dying (obviously when not in a hardcore game)
-Without using airtanks and not die

or other challenges such as:

-Not get noticed at all by a Reaper
-Speedruns (i.e Get every poss blueprints + create/find/own every possible things + make a base in every biomes, the sky is the limits on possible speedruns)
-Create the most humongous base you can without using the Nocost/Item console cheat (yes, very time-consuming)

Im sure there are tons of other challenges i havent thought of too. Ill surely continue to challenge myself again in the future until the devs design concrete purposes story-wise for the game.

So tell me what are YOUR challenges peoples, im dead curious to know!

Seeking ideas for team wide upgrades

I have been toying with the idea of team wide upgrades for late game, rather than lifeform specific upgrades. So rather than say, stab, we get something that buffs the whole team. I am having trouble thinking of ideas. I asked this question in discord. I am making a thread to collect these ideas because things get lost in discord.

Shadow leviathan behavior idea

I know it isn’t implemented in the game yet but I love the concept of the shadow leviathan, and was thinking a really cool behavioral mechanic would be if the spawn point depended on the time of day, with the shadow leviathans spawning in a deep dark part of the ocean normally but also spawning in the relatively “safe” areas at night giving the impression that they are nocturnal migratory hunters that leave their layers at night to hunt in shallow waters before returning home during the day. This would also add an extra layer of fear when harvesting resources at night. What do you guys think?

Honestly i find that the knife isn't enough, we have been on this planet for days/months/(possibly)years we need to make a stand and take equal ground against these predators. I for one am tired of living in fear of the fauna! Stand with me my brothers and sisters! We must think of new weapons so that we can take the battle to them! WHO'S WITH ME??!?!

One of these ideas is already known by the community, but the dude who made it changed the name of the creature so I thought I'll just post it along with the next creature idea he does, and he's just done one. Here is his deviantart account btw, so I can credit him and so we could comment on the original pages.

This one is the old one, it used to be called the "Hider", but now it's been renamed.

Today's Discovered Bugs [Original Subnautica]

So, I am still playing the original Subnautica and still enjoying discovering new places. But unfortunately there are still quite a few bugs, I wont go into the ones ive mentioned before but today I discovered some more.

1. Magnetite that spawned 30m into a solid wall in the Active Lava Zone. I had to use the Dig console command to get it out. This is happening regularly now with metal salvage as well. It spawns into walls or under the ground or both.

2. Unable to access the scanner room upgrade panel while 'mousing over' it. The fabricator panel right beside it works as it should. I have also experienced this issue with standing at the controls of the Cyclops - sometimes the 'Pilot Cyclops' will not appear.

3. This one is a two fold bug. A Lava Lizard spawned into my Alien Containment in my ALZ base. As it didnt grow in there naturally, I didnt have the option to pick it up. It did however, interact with the peepers that were in there, by firing molten rocks at them and cooking them! So I was left with 4 dead peepers at the bottom of my tank (which are harder to replace down in the ALZ unless you carry a locker full of them) and a Lava Lizard that I can't get rid of.

I had to resort to downloading a mod called Custom Command (or something like that). This gave me the option to 'pick up' the Lava Lizard. I will now have to populate my alien containment again but what if another Lava Lizard spawns in my containment again and kills all the fish in there? Real pain in the butt bug.

4. Lastly, two fire extinguishers are appearing in my inventory every time I load my game. I can trace this back to taking and putting back a couple of the fire extinguishers in the Cyclops. So basically Im getting two free extinguishers every time I load my game, which at the end game stage is more of a pain tbh.

As much as I enjoy the game, these bugs really do take the fun away a bit. I reeallllyyy hope the devs don't forget to come back and leave the original game 'right'.

That's it for today. Thanks for reading.

Pause/Esc Menu Bug

I've been having a problem since full release, and maybe a little bit before. When pressing the Escape button and going to the pause menu, the game immediately becomes unplayable. Clicking any button will not do anything and "Back to Game" won't return me to playing, forcing me to Alt+F4 and quit without saving, because that button is broken too. I've tried reinstalling the game and verifying the game's integrity, but to no avail. I've come to the forums because "Give Feedback" is also broken. I'm on the latest Subnautica release (non-experimental, build no. 59783), latest Steam Client update, and latest GeForce Experience version.

My computer specifications (if it helps, which it probably doesn't)...
CPU: Intel Core i7-6700HQ
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070
RAM: 12 GB
OS: Windows 10 Home

Thanks for taking the time to read this and helping me get back on my way off of this ocean planet!

Any chance of proper full screen? Framerate drops until I alt+tab

$

So, I recently built a new gaming PC along with a gsync monitor. This monitor has a refresh rate overlay option I use to monitor if gsync is working.
Now, for gsync to function in Subnautica I have to enable gsync support for windowed applications, it doesn't work for full screen only. I've taken this to mean that Subnautica DOES NOT do proper full screen.
Is this a problem? Well it shouldn't be, but here is the problem I'm having:
Randomly while I'm playing the framerate will drop from a pretty steady 70-80fps (Ryzen 1700 + gtx1080) to around 20fps. While this happens, I'm watching the GPU usage (using Rivatuner and Afterburner) drop from the usual high 90% down to about 20%. This will continue until I alt+tab out of the game, then switch back. When I do this, the framerate immediately jumps back up to normal.
I'm almost certain this is linked to the fact Subnautica doesn't run in proper full screen but I could be wrong.
If anyone has any input it would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Edit: fixed title

Customizable empty module for the Seatruck

The Seatruck feels like a bit of a downgrade from the Cyclops due to its lack of ability to be designed by the player (other than choosing the order of the modules).
It would be nice to include a module that is blank and allows the player to build in it. This would allow for things like plant pots, or a module that involves both a fabricator and some storage lockers, etc.

Additionally, it would be great to include an upgrade module that allows for upgrades to be installed for the Seatruck. Thereby it can have functionalities such as the Cyclops' sonar and shield generator.

Subnautica is unplayable!
In 1:02, the game starts loading.
In 1:09, I clicked the left click on the mouse. The cutscene doesn't load.
In 1:31, I hold the escape key. I spawn with no tablet. I can't interact with anything.
In 2:30, I pick up the Boomerang. It doesn't show in my inventory.\
In 2:48, I click the escape key to pause the game. I can't click any buttons. Obviously, these glitches make the game impossible to play or progress.
I tried justifying with Epic Games Launcher.
This is ASUS ROG Strix Scar edition. It's a fairly new computer so I don't know what's going on.

Seems that we have magic Table Coral in the game. No matter how much Table Coral I gather and store in one of my lockers. The next time I go to that locker to get some. It's empty. The Table Coral has vanished, pulled a disappearing act on me. How did it manage to pull that one off. The Bunny wonders. *hmmmmmm

Welder interface / armor repair rework

$

Good day everyone!

Just your friendly neighborhood WalkerTexasFade here. I had an idea while chatting on Discord the other day talking with Deck about the current armor welding in NS2 or lack thereof is probably more accurate. Most of us people who browse these forums are good enough to know when to weld and when not to but for most other players it is a big issue. The other issue is the lack of good visual information for many elements of the game. There ought to be easier/intuitive ways to relay information for players

Currently we have little wrenches that change in color in accordance to the armor of the marine. No wrench for full armor, white for mostly full, yellow, then red for low to none. In most cases it is hard to discern when a team mate needs welded due to the size of the wrench and in general its currently not a great way to represent armor.

My idea is give the welder a world interface overlay when it is equipped. What do I mean by this? I dont know. I know there is better terminology but here is my idea: When the welder is equipped all marine structures as well as marines will have a color indicator overlay on them to indicate their armor levels. This would function much like the wrench icon but over the whole structure. White/ green for full or high armor, yellow for mid, red for low/none. See below for how I am imagining it (obviously it would look better ;) ) Also note that I have bad editing skills so this overlay would be only on the player/structure models. No extending past that.

lwxbafkvscie.pngro9dey0q7gfa.pngewbdzlrzgf7z.png

This same scheme can be used for structures as well.

This would not take the place the the current system but be more of an addition to it. I would still like to keep the notifications using the wrench system while not in welder mode or maybe make the icon larger / more visible.

With this I beleive will add easy to understand visual information to the game which we desperately need.
