Refunds?

At what point do we start talking about refunds? I got the latest update hoping it'd at least get to finish out the lava zone. And I may be able to do that, but it's going to be absolutely miserable as my prawn is extremely difficult to pilot with all the lagging I'm experiencing.

But I look at the issues I'm having, and looking around the forums at the issues everyone else is having, and really starting to think everyone just deserves their money back at this point. This obviously isn't even remotely a finished product, and I have zero confidence it's going to become one any time soon.

Refund our money and either go back to selling it as a pre-release until you get a real release ready....or just abandon the console ports if it doesn't look like it's going to get ready.

Either way, I think it's starting to border on immoral to sell the current product under the guise as being "finished".

Add Pro Controller Motion Control

I have been playing Subnautica with the Nintendo switch pro controller, but I have noticed it's hard to look around with it's joystick, so I would like to see the motion controls being implemented to look around if you choose it in the settings. I am a beginner in programming but it should be easy to make it possible to look around with the pro controller's motion controls.

Any chance of proper full screen? Framerate drops until I alt+tab

$

So, I recently built a new gaming PC along with a gsync monitor. This monitor has a refresh rate overlay option I use to monitor if gsync is working.
Now, for gsync to function in Subnautica I have to enable gsync support for windowed applications, it doesn't work for full screen only. I've taken this to mean that Subnautica DOES NOT do proper full screen.
Is this a problem? Well it shouldn't be, but here is the problem I'm having:
Randomly while I'm playing the framerate will drop from a pretty steady 70-80fps (Ryzen 1700 + gtx1080) to around 20fps. While this happens, I'm watching the GPU usage (using Rivatuner and Afterburner) drop from the usual high 90% down to about 20%. This will continue until I alt+tab out of the game, then switch back. When I do this, the framerate immediately jumps back up to normal.
I'm almost certain this is linked to the fact Subnautica doesn't run in proper full screen but I could be wrong.
If anyone has any input it would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Today's Discovered Bugs [Original Subnautica]

So, I am still playing the original Subnautica and still enjoying discovering new places. But unfortunately there are still quite a few bugs, I wont go into the ones ive mentioned before but today I discovered some more.

1. Magnetite that spawned 30m into a solid wall in the Active Lava Zone. I had to use the Dig console command to get it out. This is happening regularly now with metal salvage as well. It spawns into walls or under the ground or both.

2. Unable to access the scanner room upgrade panel while 'mousing over' it. The fabricator panel right beside it works as it should. I have also experienced this issue with standing at the controls of the Cyclops - sometimes the 'Pilot Cyclops' will not appear.

3. This one is a two fold bug. A Lava Lizard spawned into my Alien Containment in my ALZ base. As it didnt grow in there naturally, I didnt have the option to pick it up. It did however, interact with the peepers that were in there, by firing molten rocks at them and cooking them! So I was left with 4 dead peepers at the bottom of my tank (which are harder to replace down in the ALZ unless you carry a locker full of them) and a Lava Lizard that I can't get rid of.

I had to resort to downloading a mod called Custom Command (or something like that). This gave me the option to 'pick up' the Lava Lizard. I will now have to populate my alien containment again but what if another Lava Lizard spawns in my containment again and kills all the fish in there? Real pain in the butt bug.

4. Lastly, two fire extinguishers are appearing in my inventory every time I load my game. I can trace this back to taking and putting back a couple of the fire extinguishers in the Cyclops. So basically Im getting two free extinguishers every time I load my game, which at the end game stage is more of a pain tbh.

As much as I enjoy the game, these bugs really do take the fun away a bit. I reeallllyyy hope the devs don't forget to come back and leave the original game 'right'.

That's it for today. Thanks for reading.

Welder interface / armor repair rework

Good day everyone!

Just your friendly neighborhood WalkerTexasFade here. I had an idea while chatting on Discord the other day talking with Deck about the current armor welding in NS2 or lack thereof is probably more accurate. Most of us people who browse these forums are good enough to know when to weld and when not to but for most other players it is a big issue. The other issue is the lack of good visual information for many elements of the game. There ought to be easier/intuitive ways to relay information for players

Currently we have little wrenches that change in color in accordance to the armor of the marine. No wrench for full armor, white for mostly full, yellow, then red for low to none. In most cases it is hard to discern when a team mate needs welded due to the size of the wrench and in general its currently not a great way to represent armor.

My idea is give the welder a world interface overlay when it is equipped. What do I mean by this? I dont know. I know there is better terminology but here is my idea: When the welder is equipped all marine structures as well as marines will have a color indicator overlay on them to indicate their armor levels. This would function much like the wrench icon but over the whole structure. White/ green for full or high armor, yellow for mid, red for low/none. See below for how I am imagining it (obviously it would look better ;) )

lwxbafkvscie.pngro9dey0q7gfa.pngewbdzlrzgf7z.png

This same scheme can be used for structures as well.

This would not take the place the the current system but be more of an addition to it. I would still like to keep the notifications using the wrench system while not in welder mode or maybe make the icon larger / more visible.

With this I beleive will add easy to understand visual information to the game which we desperately need.

Hello,
as you already know, there is an option in Steam to enable experimental builds in Subnautica Below Zero. There are daily updates and Steam downloading them every day. Is there any changelog, so I can know what changed?
thx

Why you don't use the nuclear reactor

After the previous changes to the bio reactor the nuclear reactor was left behind with nothing special about it to be a considered as an option to power up your base so why you aren't using ,it what can the devs do to fix this, write it down below

Now whether the changes will be added post or pre 1.0 is fine by me as long as they consider giving it a bit of a buff

VR controls

ok I bought this game on my oculus and so far it looks amazing but there just one thing killing it for me and that is the controls. Having the turn be both ur head and the right stick on the gamepad keeps messing me up to the point it's annoying and making the game hard to get into. well my idea to fix this would be to implement the control scheme used in Half-life 2 vr. where they decouple the head from the body movement. IE I can look right and left just as I would in normal life without movement in the body but to turn the body I would then have to use the right stick. treat it as a real life body that way I can look around as i'm swimming without changing the direction I am swimming in. not sure if you guys have played Half life 2 in vr but it'd controls were perfect and should be imitated as a starting point for all first person games

VR version control lock up

I have Subnautica from Steam (game is up to date). I just got the Oculus Rift.

I immediately ran into an issue where after logging in and going through the escape pod hatch a couple of times my controls would lock up. The game keeps running and I can look around with the Oculus, but I couldn't move or interact. I tried the Rift controllers, 2 different brands of xbox controller, and the keyboard mouse.

The "fix" I found was to ensure that gaze control was enabled in the control options. This is VERY clunky but it keeps things from freezing up. It also has the side "benefit" of making what is already a pretty disorienting experience all the more crazy since to do anything on the PDA, fabricator, options, etc. you have to move you head around constantly.

Is there a fix out there that would allow the controls to work without gaze control on?

I know that many people wouldnt like this idea but i like it.
I think it would be great to have a small helicopter to fly beetween bases if they are over the water.
Would you like this in subnautica below zero.

SPOILER WARNING Bug or wrong item? Acces to "Lava-castle"

SPOILER WARNING

I wen't into the 'lava-castle' -the alien base at 1451 meters depth. I had left my Prawn suit with the first depth upgrade around 1200 meters down and swam the rest of the way down to the base. Past the huge octopus lizard monster. The gate was open and I ran in without activating the door. I scanned everything and left again without using any of the portals. Now I can't get in again. There's a green "forcefield" and a stool that opens up with an opening for a tablet. I have several in my inventory -the ones with the purple symbol. I go to the stool and hit A. Nothing happens. I can't drop the tablets from my inventory or set them to the 'ready-at-hand-menu'.

Is this a bug that has been triggered by me going into the base at first and then leaving where I came in without going through any of the portals?

I read somewhere about being able to make a 'blue-tablet'? I don't have that option on my tablet.

I have tried to find the answer in the forums, by google and on YouTube but I keep having things spoiled for me, so if anybody could answer this pecific I would be overcome with joy.

Thankyou in advance. I love this game more than anything in the whole world
and I'm not kidding.

Current Bug List for PS4 Console Release of Subnautica

$

In an attempt to make an organized effort to help bring awareness of the ongoing or current bugs in the Playstation 4 release, I want to list the bugs that I have encountered in the game. So with that being said if you personally have experienced any bugs that I haven't listed then please feel free to add them. If you have information, clues, screenshots, or videos to share that may help the developers pin down, find the source of, or duplicate the problem, please share those as well.

Current PS4 Bug list (post 1.06 update)

1. Screenshots disappear when saving game.
Cant share anything. Makes bug reporting less useful. Cant use Picture Frame (nothing to put in it).
(Rumor is this will be fixed on next update)

2. Fabricator wont list HUD Thermometer even when Blueprint unlocked.
Item is listed in Blueprints but you cant create it. When swimming or building thermal power plants we have no way of knowing if we are even in hot water till you take damage, at which point it becomes very obvious.
(Rumor is this item was removed from the game, so it must be a ghost of a very useful item)

3. Aggressive fauna glitching into base and into alien containment, then going about a killing spree.
I have had this happen numerous times mostly with Biters. Only once I had a Sandshark in my base but he didn't make it into the alien containment before I discovered him.
(Seems to be an ongoing issue)

4. The Lifepod beacon icon floats onscreen when shut off in beacon manager after restart.
This happens every time game restarts. You have to turn beacon back on, then turn it back off every time you play.

5. Base and Lifepod can be seen across entire gaming area.
Seems like a waste of resources, the RAM should be focused on local video instead of rendering something you should not possibly even be able to see. Could be affecting framerate drops as the size of your base gets larger.

6. Schools of fish swim right through base.
(Seems to be an ongoing issue)

7. Door to Prawn room (Aurora) would not open from upper access.
Not sure if this was an intentional change or glitch because you can still access the Prawn room from a lower access point, but when i played the PC version this door worked when panel was repaired.

8. Bladderfish extinction.
This is NOT due to over use as a resource. Even if you immediately use salt and coral for water, and they are still abundant, they still vanish. As a result you cannot build Air Bladder.

9. Cuddlefish vanishes.
This usually happens within probably 30 to 40 mins. After being gone for a couple weeks (probably 2 to 3 days of game time). Reappears then vanishes again... This seems unavoidable on the PS 4.

10. Fauna suddenly for no reason bolt off like an arrow at unrealistic speeds. Non provoked.
I have seen this with Bonesharks, Jellyrays, Gasopods, Rabbitrays, and even a Reefback Leviathan. This seems to happen more and more as you progress in the game.

I am going to mention a couple things but not put them on the list because they are not bugs:

The PS4 Bug/Feedback window doesn't let you know when the text has reached its limit. Almost every time I have reported half of what I said was lost and cut off mid sentence. Its been very frustrating with no ability to save a screenshot to explain these bugs in detail when you are limited to 190 characters of text. This is not a sufficient amount of space when trying to convey the bug itself and the circumstances of how to recreate the details of the bug.

I would also like to add that it is also a frustration to know that with all the bugs that haven't been fixed we are still limited to one save slot in a survival game. This just seems unreasonable when days of progress can be ruined with one wrong save that makes a glitch or bug permanent. Nothing to fall back on.

Borealis Rising - A Subnautica Story, V2.0.
By: Bugzapper (Lee Perkins).

CHAPTER ONE

Unlike a certain Mr. Samuel L. Clemens, the reports of my death are entirely accurate.

Alexander Fergus Selkirk lived to the ripe old age of 115 years, and died three times in the process. We're not talking about any 'dying on the operating table'- type deaths, either. The first time, I blundered into the path of a hungry Stalker and paid the price for my singular lack of caution. All things considered, I got off extremely lightly. Having a working Valkyrie Field in the Lifepod gave me a second chance, and I dare say that I learned a valuable lesson from that experience.

Considering that this planet is essentially a heaving mass of aquatic life forms with a marked taste for human flesh, it would serve you well to keep your wits about you. If you've accessed my earlier log entries, you'll probably be aware of the most prevalent threats that planet 4546B (a.k.a 'Alpha Hydrae IV' or 'Manannán') has to offer. I have done my best to provide a broad assessment of each alien species encountered so far, including their general appearance, typical behaviour patterns and perceived threat levels. Please be advised that this information is by no means complete and highly subject to revision, since this planet has entered a state of accelerated evolution. It is entirely possible that new life forms are appearing even as this account is being written.

Yes, you did read that last sentence correctly.

My second death was a rather more unpleasant surprise. Approximately eight months after Aurora crashed on this planet, a Torgaljin Corporation commercial frigate arrived and commenced highly secretive operations near one of my undersea bases. Since I had already launched a deep-space distress beacon by that time and the frigate De Ruyter had made no obvious attempts to contact me, I became immediately suspicious of their intentions. A few days later, a Torgaljin security team entered my base and I was murdered by their leader, Invigilator Galen Tomar. After being restored to life by the Valkyrie Field, I commenced a retaliatory action that culminated in the destruction of De Ruyter and the loss of its crew. This particular outcome was not at all intentional, although the follow-up operation against Torgaljin Corp's base in the Lava Castle was entirely successful and no further human lives were lost during our assault on this facility.

As for what happened to the inhabitants of the Torgaljin base in the aftermath of that raid, I can only speculate how events might have unfolded. As the Lava Castle base has been effectively isolated for the past hundred and two years, I am understandably reluctant to carry out a detailed reconnaissance mission in order to ascertain whether anyone is still alive down there. Camera drones have been sent there on several occasions, although they were deliberately made to be unable to operate the base's airlock controls. My greatest concern is that Torgaljin personnel might capture a more sophisticated drone and begin reverse-engineering its more accessible components. Considering that I took particular care in completely shutting down Torgaljin's illegal operations on this planet, I had no intention of handing over what amounted to an instant technological advantage. They were slapped down hard, and I want those bastards to stay slapped down.
Permanently.

No Bath or Shower? What`s wrong with this idea?

The question I ask is a serious one. We need cleaning facilities .The Human body wont stay healthy if it is in saltwater all the time. All that salt will have an adverse effect on our skin weaking us. If you reply that the diving suits protect the body from the saltwater then you have a human body that is never getting clean and is living in it`s own dirt ,sweat, dead skin, etc. not a recipit for good health. Oh btw the stillsuit is not a good answer. At lease in this player opion
