All built on Hardcore.

It is not finished with many of the rooms being empty, but I am not sure if I will ever complete it all. With the early access release I have been gleefully diving beneath the ice. That said I am pretty happy about how it all turned out, and wanted to say Thank you to all the cast/crew that made these games possible. I know Ya'll told me it is not my home, but I beg to differ.

I welcome you to you're new home on 4546B

I've been playing below zero for a little over 20 hours, and have made bladderfish nearly extinct. I think they respawn, or hope they do; however now the eyeeye population is taking a massive dip.

At some point I fear I will wipe out multiple species on my quest to save Sam from bureaucratic jargon. (currently building a ladder to get as close as possible to the space station on survival because that is what I do.)

(edit) Hurry Please (^,^;)

Honestly i find that the knife isn't enough, we have been on this planet for days/months/(possibly)years we need to make a stand and take equal ground against these predators. I for one am tired of living in fear of the fauna! Stand with me my brothers and sisters! We must think of new weapons so that we can take the battle to them! WHO'S WITH ME??!?!

I have 2 saved games with almost 11 hours played on each, but as of now. they no longer work. Logging in, Textures don't load properly, Save Game doesn't function, Feedback doesn't function, what textures I do see are all phantoms, I am unable to interact with them. To check to see if it was just limited to the 2 saved games, I started a 3rd game and have 30 minutes in it and the same issues have now affected it. I like this game, but I can no longer play it. What am I suppose to do?

"Nos Manere" (we remain) - a Subnautica story

We all have moments where we wish for something left behind. From something as important as a childhood friend in our old hometown to something as trivial as a wallet left behind on the counter. A month ago I wished for my hoverdriver's license when I was pulled over for speeding in a moment of bad judgement. Regret and loss go hand-in-hand with self-judgement - blame for not thinking ahead or choosing more wisely. Even, sometimes, when we couldn't possibly have known about the imminent need.

Predicting the future has always been a tricky business for us mere mortals. Even something as simple as discerning the weather a few days from now is uncertain enough. In the blink of an eye one's priorities may be drastically altered. Someone in perfect health may suddenly be in desperate need of medical supplies after a car wreck. A tent might be an amusing toy to a CEO one minute, then invaluable shelter the next when his private jet crash-lands.

So it is that once again I find myself awake late at night in my circular 'apartment' unable to find either the sleep that I need or the answers that I want. With sunlight long since gone my only illumination is from the faintly shining screen of my PDA. The only sound is the occasional bass moans of a Reefer, echoing throughout the metallic structure of my new home.

And on the opposite end of the habitat I wonder what Katy will be missing.

Subnautica can't be played: No intro cutscene, menus broken can't interact with anything

Like the title says, I used to play Subnautica on my PC back home, had to swap over to a laptop for college, but the game won't run and can't really even start now. When I open up the game the menu screen has no sound and the intro cutscene is a black screen that I have to skip, then the game loads in where anything interact with just doesn't work and none of the menu options work. Tried all of the troubleshooting options and sound fixes, nothing seems to be working. Even checked out some other fixes I've seen on here.

Hey guys!

Subnautica is currently in Early Access and as such you may from time to time encounter bugs and in the worst case, crashes. If you have issues with stability of Subnautica, please post your issues with as much detail as possible (video/screenshots/descriptions), followed by the following requested information:

Example Topic Title:
[Crash] Open my Locker and Crash! [Version Number]

1) Please run dxdiag.exe (search windows for it) on your systems and hit the button 'save all information' in the bottom right. Save this file for later.

LHmLsSd.png

2) Navigate to your Subnautica Folder in Steam (should be steamapps\common\Subnautica)

3) Open the Subnautica_Data folder and grab a copy of 'output_log.txt'

PJAwuF0.png

4) Upload all the text of these to something like http://pastebin.com/ and post the public links to them with your forum posts.

These 2 files will GREATLY help us in tracking down issues with Subnautica. Thanks!

Crashing launching or playing Subnautica? Follow these steps to make a good tech support post!

Edit by Jonas:
We've also got a very similar guide with pictures for each step on Steam.
And as in every good tech support:
  • Please make sure that your Windows is up to date.
  • Please make sure that your drivers are up to date.
  • Please make sure your PC meets the minimum system requirements.
  • Please close all other applications before starting the game.
  • Have you tried turning it off and on again? ;)

Subnautica Below Zero- Do you think we will ever see a precursor skeleton?

$

In the "Sanctuary Zero Location Data" log in the databank it is said that these sanctuaries served a purpose to preserve the precursor's mental states in case of emergency for later retrieval, but most succumbed before they could reach one. The precursor's bodies wouldn't all dissapear, some would be fossilized or frozen, so it's odd we haven't seen one in the base game yet. And it also states that none of these sanctuaries contain a viable alien consciousness, but why? Did the disease already affect those that made it, even though it took a few weeks to infect our player?
What do you guys think?

Subnautica: Below Zero feedback

Hi guys, I just played through Subnautica: Below Zero. I really enjoyed the first game, and played through nearly to the end, while building some bases and enjoying the atmosphere. I really think Subnautica: Below Zero has a better potential for excellent gameplay and story than Subnautica had, but would like to give some advice about the things that matter most to me in that regard, as well as some suggestions for less important but still great features. Spoilers, obviously.

First and foremost is the issue of pop-in. Texture pop-in is very noticeable, but worse than that is environment and creature pop-in. The most egregious examples are the Rock Breakers and the Glow Whales, where the rock breaker crabs will spawn in above the ground, floating slowly to the bottom in a very conspicuous way. Glow whales pop in in full pods, all swimming in the same direction, and it completely breaks immersion. Extending the pop-in cutoff, improving pop-in spawn behavior, and reducing visibility at long distances would help with the issue.

Second, the issue of clipping. Player clipping is limited to feet clipping below ground textures but creatures, especially leviathans, have had clipping issues for a long time. The Sea Emperor has a big problem with clipping through walls, and in addition his sharp turns look unnatural when he runs into a wall. I don't know how to fix the issue, but my dream would be for leviathans to interact with walls intelligently, for example the Sea Emperor, when it gets too close to a wall, could turn its body and grip the wall with its tentacles to turn and push off. This tech would likely require some hybrid animations, which I'm not sure are implemented yet and therefore would be a low priority.

Third, the narrative. The game comes off very strong at the beginning with a negative view of megacorps, but it's not couched in realism. Alterra's dominance in Subnautica was limited to small views of their galactic superiority, but in this game we get a close up look, and it doesn't show properly. The most striking example of this (to me) is the poster in the arctic base. It boils down to "we own everything you find, and technology is good, culture bad". It doesn't really relate to our current or historical experience of corporations, and I think it could be well altered to something like "Alterra needs results! Your pay is based on your findings. Remember that you're a researcher, not a tourist". This poster would make more sense to me, because it is closer to the gray area, and I could actually believe an imaginary megacorp believing it's a reasonable sign to post in their base. Adding some very positive examples from Alterra would be great as well. They're putting out propaganda for their many employees/indentured servants, so making some really good looking, emotionally affirming posters would be great, and would further drive dissonance between Alterra's image and Robin's distrust of it may drive the player to question if she and her sister are simply paranoid, and whether trusting the alien AI is truly a smart idea or one that could lead to a lot of danger for Robin and Sam. This kind of uncertainty really plays into the Subnautica feel from the first game, where you're always led to wonder whether it's smart to take your seamoth deeper into the grand reef or if you should stick to safer, well explored waters.

Less importantly than these three, I have a couple of suggestions. First, I'd love if weather were made up of dynamic weather systems. For example, if you could sit on top of an ice sheet and watch as a rain cloud rolls over the map from a distance. This would occlude some map features, and if the weather is sufficiently chaotic it could really give the map a larger, more intense look. This could also give the player a chance to see a blizzard coming, instead of getting no more than a few seconds' notice. I love the idea of dynamic weather, and think it could help with immersion.

In my original Subnautica playthrough, I completely ignored the option of building a second main base, and opted instead to build a tiny outpost with nothing but water and medkit production. The main reason for that was that I didn't want to have to move all of my many materials over from my main base, and so left them in the shallows. A cargo system would be very nice, made up of a cargo hold base module (a bunch of boxes with some robotic arms to carry them) and a cargo loading bay for the Cyclops. This would allow you to store a lot of materials easily, and easily cart them from one base to another if you want to. Possible extension could include cargo bots, which would carry materials but could be damaged by aggressive creatures. This would mark a beacon, which would lead you to the bot and its loot, but could lead you straight to a leviathan-class creature with the bot in its belly.

Above-ground bases need some love I think. I don't know if I just found the wrong place for it, but I wasn't able to place modules above-ground without placing a foundation, and the foundation was a good 5 feet above the surface. This clearly doesn't work well for base building, so I'd like it if the foundation could be placed underground. Bonus points if above-ground bases and sections of underwater bases that breach the surface get covered by snow during a blizzard.

Weapons and combat are in dire need of something, but I'm not sure exactly what. The technique of using the prawn suit to grapple and drill a leviathan class creature is so utterly absurd that it breaks me from the game completely. Essentially leviathans are placed as creatures whose only interaction with you is to eat you. The Stasis Rifle is an interesting concept, but doesn't feel right. If weapon effects were improved, and new weapons were added, then it could be nice to use the weapons to chase away enemies, up to leviathan class. In my mind, most weapons should be reserved for the Cyclops or PRAWN suit, since this would add to the claustrophobia of using that equipment. Bonus points for dynamic damage effects on creatures in the vein of Left 4 Dead 2.

Thanks for reading! Please let me know what kind of feedback you have on these points. Would you also like to see these things added to the game?

Current Bug List for PS4 Console Release of Subnautica

$

In an attempt to make an organized effort to help bring awareness of the ongoing or current bugs in the Playstation 4 release, I want to list the bugs that I have encountered in the game. So with that being said if you personally have experienced any bugs that I haven't listed then please feel free to add them. If you have information, clues, screenshots, or videos to share that may help the developers pin down, find the source of, or duplicate the problem, please share those as well.

Current PS4 Bug list (post 1.06 update)

1. Screenshots disappear when saving game.
Cant share anything. Makes bug reporting less useful. Cant use Picture Frame (nothing to put in it).
(Rumor is this will be fixed on next update)

2. Fabricator wont list HUD Thermometer even when Blueprint unlocked.
Item is listed in Blueprints but you cant create it. When swimming or building thermal power plants we have no way of knowing if we are even in hot water till you take damage, at which point it becomes very obvious.
(Rumor is this item was removed from the game, so it must be a ghost of a very useful item)

3. Aggressive fauna glitching into base and into alien containment, then going about a killing spree.
I have had this happen numerous times mostly with Biters. Only once I had a Sandshark in my base but he didn't make it into the alien containment before I discovered him.
(Seems to be an ongoing issue)

4. The Lifepod beacon icon floats onscreen when shut off in beacon manager after restart.
This happens every time game restarts. You have to turn beacon back on, then turn it back off every time you play.

5. Base and Lifepod can be seen across entire gaming area.
Seems like a waste of resources, the RAM should be focused on local video instead of rendering something you should not possibly even be able to see. Could be affecting framerate drops as the size of your base gets larger.

6. Schools of fish swim right through base.
(Seems to be an ongoing issue)

7. Door to Prawn room (Aurora) would not open from upper access.
Not sure if this was an intentional change or glitch because you can still access the Prawn room from a lower access point, but when i played the PC version this door worked when panel was repaired.

8. Bladderfish extinction.
This is NOT due to over use as a resource. Even if you immediately use salt and coral for water, and they are still abundant, they still vanish. As a result you cannot build Air Bladder.

9. Cuddlefish vanishes.
This usually happens within probably 30 to 40 mins. After being gone for a couple weeks (probably 2 to 3 days of game time). Reappears then vanishes again... This seems unavoidable on the PS 4.

10. Fauna suddenly for no reason bolt off like an arrow at unrealistic speeds. Non provoked.
I have seen this with Bonesharks, Jellyrays, Gasopods, Rabbitrays, and even a Reefback Leviathan. This seems to happen more and more as you progress in the game.

I am going to mention a couple things but not put them on the list because they are not bugs:

The PS4 Bug/Feedback window doesn't let you know when the text has reached its limit. Almost every time I have reported half of what I said was lost and cut off mid sentence. Its been very frustrating with no ability to save a screenshot to explain these bugs in detail when you are limited to 190 characters of text. This is not a sufficient amount of space when trying to convey the bug itself and the circumstances of how to recreate the details of the bug.

I would also like to add that it is also a frustration to know that with all the bugs that haven't been fixed we are still limited to one save slot in a survival game. This just seems unreasonable when days of progress can be ruined with one wrong save that makes a glitch or bug permanent. Nothing to fall back on.

XBOX UNOFFICIAL BUG POST
Started this Post originally to get the ball rolling didn't realise how many would respond, so if you have bugs that are not on the list just mention it within the comment section below, depending on free time and playing subnautica it may take me awhile to respond or even update the list, thanks from a fellow subnautica fan for the help guys. Hopefully the major bugs will get fixed and help get the game running smoother in the foreseeable future

BUGS

BUG LIST UPDATED [09/06/16]

- Hi I am new to the game on Xbox. I wanted to report that the game also crashes while being in the main menu just sitting in idle. I wanted to pause the game in the main menu and come back later. I tried if it was accidental but the game crashes every time while idle in main menu. It does it within an hour and quite some turns now. - oelikoelie

- I found that fragments in my game despawn mid-scanning period when I'm bitten by a Biter. Really annoying, 'cause I really need a mobile vehicle bay. - Darwin-Evolution

- it only happened once but I tried to get into my base via moonpool but when I went into it, I fell through the base and landed on the ground (underwater) like I was on land. Only for me to realize that my oxygen was not going down and I was walking underwater (like my base) and I had to climb up to my hatch to "leave my base" - trainman16

- sometimes if I look down while I am in my base it slows my walking speed to nearly 5% - Melinity

- As soon as I finished building a multi-purpose room the game crashed and I lost all of my data, the game denies that I have created any saved games - Rawrr

- I just sealed up the radiation leak and decided to head home. Upon entering my base you could constantly hear the sound of your character obtaining air from the purple brains that release 3 bubbles of air every now and then. - destinykid

- Glitch threw sea-moth while docking into moon pool causing you to sink until you hit bottom. - JONNYK301

- Your base will become transparent while in the Cyclops. - Olympicwolf

- closing bulkheads crashes the game - bbot0625

anything else that comes to me I will update this post, also anyone can contribute to the list, I know its a preview and all just here to help, also to note I will have no idea if and when these bugs are fixed (guessing after a bug update in the near future) so when that happens I will keep it up to date.
