Arctic Biome Story Setup

This is my idea of how a group made it to Iceberg Primus (cheeky name).
Upon approach of 4546B, the Degasi recovery shuttle (DRS) left the Aurora’s main hangar. The ship started it's decent and plotted a course for the last known Degasi location.
During their decent, the Aroura engaged in the slingshot maneuver. The Aroura is then shot down and the DRS quickly lands on IP, (the nearest landmass) in fear of the same.
This puts a group on the iceberg seperated from the current game.

Politely requesting the Auora fires to slowly go out over time. It’s a little immersion breaking to have the fires still burning once you’ve beaten the game. Anyone else think this is doable?

Series of bugs make the game completely unplayable

I've been playing the game for a few weeks now, and it's all been amazing. However, a few days ago, I load my game and there's a bunch of issues.

Instead of standing by the control wheel in my Cyclops like expected, my character is "swimming" inside the sub.

When I try to exit the cyclops via my seamoth, the little sub exits the cyclops, immediately re-docks with the cyclops, and my controls lock up.

When I try to cycle through my inventory, I can't actually use any of the items. However, they all "appear" in my hand. Like, my character is holding the flashlight and seaglide both in the right hand.

Finally, whenever I hit the escape button to bring up the menu, the menu comes up and gets stuck. I can't select any buttons, and I can't close the menu.

I've deleted my save files and started new games, and the problems persist. I've uninstalled the game twice and re-installed, and they're still there.

I'm at my wits end. This game is spectacular, but it's suddenly become unplayable. Can anyone help me? I've playing the steam version without VR using mouse and keyboard (no controller).

Female character

Haven't seen anything mentioned about this for a while... I'm a woman, and would very much love the option to play as a female character in the game. Don't know if you are still considering it or not, but there is at least one person you would make very happy if you did.

I would love to see "A" Subnautica game on the Nintendo Switch

I don't like bringing up old threads, and this is not a suggestion for the current Subnautica game. If the devs decide on expanding Subnautica into a series, I'd love for the next game to be on the Nintendo Switch. I bought it last October and I found it to be an amazing gaming device (despite people around me telling me it's an underpowered piece of junk which lead me to calling them "peasants" to ensure they knew where I stood).

ANYWAYS... I'd rather not see the current Subnautica on the console. I'm pretty sure the internals would melt down trying to display Subnautica's graphics. Rather I'd like to see a different story in the same universe. Maybe a female protagonist crash lands on another ocean planet for different reasons, but has to find a way to escape. Or maybe it can tell the story of the Degasi crew... I wouldn't mind if it was a 2D Metroidvania either as long as we get places explore and story to uncover.

Anyways, what do you all think? :)

XBOX UNOFFICIAL BUG POST
Started this Post originally to get the ball rolling didn't realise how many would respond, so if you have bugs that are not on the list just mention it within the comment section below, depending on free time and playing subnautica it may take me awhile to respond or even update the list, thanks from a fellow subnautica fan for the help guys. Hopefully the major bugs will get fixed and help get the game running smoother in the foreseeable future

BUGS

- any building block's I place that goes through or slightly into the reef/ rocks & plant life will be Terra formed as expected but if you load or come back to the Area after a journey it will go back to its original form and glitch through the building block deny access through walkways etc.

- when a breach floods your base fish will swim through or spawn in the base, even found fish swimming/ floating even without a breach. while in the Cyclops/ big sub if you hold a snap block/ base building item's while in the sub it did a 360 spinning around demolishing anything in sight.

- found wreckage parts, doors, flood lights and reef parts floating in the sky.

- frame rate issues

- game crashes often even more so while playing in creative (to as expected)

When I finally died a hour later due to dehydration, I spawned back where the life pod was with my vehicle bay and lifepod gone. I didn't see the seamoth beacon either. Restarted the game -

- Third game crashed while I was next to the aurora and out scanning fragments. When the game reloaded I was back at the pod. The base i built and my vehicle bay were gone and again I didn't see my seamoth beacon -

BUG LIST UPDATED [09/06/16]

- Hi I am new to the game on Xbox. I wanted to report that the game also crashes while being in the main menu just sitting in idle. I wanted to pause the game in the main menu and come back later. I tried if it was accidental but the game crashes every time while idle in main menu. It does it within an hour and quite some turns now. - oelikoelie

- I found that fragments in my game despawn mid-scanning period when I'm bitten by a Biter. Really annoying, 'cause I really need a mobile vehicle bay. - Darwin-Evolution

- it only happened once but I tried to get into my base via moonpool but when I went into it, I fell through the base and landed on the ground (underwater) like I was on land. Only for me to realize that my oxygen was not going down and I was walking underwater (like my base) and I had to climb up to my hatch to "leave my base" - trainman16

- As soon as I finished building a multi-purpose room the game crashed and I lost all of my data, the game denies that I have created any saved games - Rawrr

- I just sealed up the radiation leak and decided to head home. Upon entering my base you could constantly hear the sound of your character obtaining air from the purple brains that release 3 bubbles of air every now and then. - destinykid

- Glitch threw sea-moth while docking into moon pool causing you to sink until you hit bottom. - JONNYK301

- Your base will become transparent while in the Cyclops. - Olympicwolf

- closing bulkheads crashes the game - bbot0625

anything else that comes to me I will update this post, also anyone can contribute to the list, I know its a preview and all just here to help, also to note I will have no idea if and when these bugs are fixed (guessing after a bug update in the near future) so when that happens I will keep it up to date.

Pause/Esc Menu Bug

$

I've been having a problem since full release, and maybe a little bit before. When pressing the Escape button and going to the pause menu, the game immediately becomes unplayable. Clicking any button will not do anything and "Back to Game" won't return me to playing, forcing me to Alt+F4 and quit without saving, because that button is broken too. I've tried reinstalling the game and verifying the game's integrity, but to no avail. I've come to the forums because "Give Feedback" is also broken. I'm on the latest Subnautica release (non-experimental, build no. 59783), latest Steam Client update, and latest GeForce Experience version.

My computer specifications (if it helps, which it probably doesn't)...
CPU: Intel Core i7-6700HQ
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070
RAM: 12 GB
OS: Windows 10 Home

Thanks for taking the time to read this and helping me get back on my way off of this ocean planet!

Any way to recover glitched save game?

$

I was quite progressed in my Subnautica save, had my Cyclops, PRAWN Suit, most of the blueprints, etc.

I was out in the Dunes exploring a wreck, and as usual I saved inside my Cyclops just before adventuring out, and the moment after I hit the save button, my power went out.
I was only worried about losing the time I spent driving out to the wreck, so when my power came back on I went to load up my save, and I saw the first concerning problem: The jpeg that usually displays
on my saves just had a big X on it. The game still loads and I find my character swimming around in the shallows, I breath a sigh of relief for a moment, until I look around and realize none of my things are there.
My base is gone, all my equipment and inventory, Cyclops, Seamoth, PRAWN Suit, nothing. Only an empty lifepod.

I figure that my power going out interrupted the saving process in some way. What I want to know, is if there is any way at all to recover my lost progress.
Of course saves overwrite previous ones, so it's not like I can take a small hit and load up a slightly older one.

PSG's Subnautica Quality of Life Megathread

$

Kind of my catch phrase for Subnautica has been that it's a 9/10 game trapped inside a 5/10 game. There are innumerable frustrating, badly designed, badly implemented, or badly conceived things about the game. There are technical challenges like pop in and clipping issues, but these don't ruin enjoyment of the game, they just make the scenery a little less sweet. In this ongoing thread, I will suggest QoL changes that would make the game better. Make your suggestions too and I will integrate the best ones.

====INVENTORY, CONTAINERS, AND PDA=====
-Hovering over items currently causes the "tooltip" information to appear over the mouse cursor, obstructing other items in view. Tooltip information should be moved to a vacant portion of the screen, like the bottom or top of the PDA. The PDA would probably have to be slightly reconfigured for this, but it needs a lot of work anyway.

-You cannot exchange items between two full containers. A button needs to be added in the PDA to select an item and then move it around, reconfiguring the inventory around it. This button could be used to move items to and from containers, even when full. This would also be used to add items to the hotbar (see below)

-When playing with a controller, you cannot assign items to quickbar slots manually. You just add items to your quickbar and the last item gets pushed out. This leads to constant pointless juggling of quickbar items. After an item gets pushed out, if you still need it, you then have to readd it, potentially pushing out the next item. This compounds several previously mentioned issues. When you're readding items like this, you might be in danger, you have no backgrounds to help you find your tools and as you move over them the tooltip text overlaps the adjacent items, making them difficult to make out. Using the "item drag" control that I detailed above, you would be able to manually move items into quickbar slots instead.

-Item background colors are not used effectively. Though a rare few items have them, almost no items do. Background colors should be used to separate items into basic groups: Materials, tools, eggs/fish, parts, and so forth.

-Increase quickbar slots to 8. There is absolutely no reason not to do this. Standing in the way of ease of control and pointlessly adding frustration is bad game design, period.

-Items cannot be dropped on ground inside. Although this is an innately technical shortcoming, its effect on QoL combined with the other inventory problems is disasterous.

-All containers, including the player's inventory, are too small. Move current container sizes to hardcore difficulty setting and increase significantly for the base game.

-Helmet with a light should be available as an option with no rebreather.

=====BASE BUILDING=====
Bases should double as beacons. It's head-scratching to have to construct a separate beacon outside after I just made a powered habitat out of thin air.

=====CONTROLS=====
As I am playing with a controller, most issues here will be controller-centric.

-When using the habitat builder, you use RT to bring up its menu, A to select an object, and then hold A again to build. If you press RT again, the object outline disappears and you're back to square one. Pressing down on the D-Pad deconstructs objects. This is just all wrong and violates a lot of things you try not to do with game controls. You want to use the same button to "proceed" and the same button to "back out" as much as possible. When using the builder, RT should open the menu, then RT should select the plan you want. RT should then build the plan. At any point, pressing B goes backwards one step, and B also disassembles objects. Pressing down on the controller now always puts away your equipped item. You almost never use this control-- Why is a frequently used control on Down and a rarely used control on B?

More to come in the near future and will be recording things like this on a notepad as I play in the future...

[Crash] Can't Walk, Trapped in Aurora [59783]

Hello. I've put about 10 hours into the current save file I have now, I decided to finally check out the Aurora. I was running through it with minor bugs here and there, nothing too serious and still decent fps. But the issue started when I quit and came back. I will crash as soon as I take a few steps in any direction. The game loads normally. I have a good fps after the game loads. I can look around, jump, use my PDA all perfectly fine. The problem only happens when I move.

It's an abnormal crash. First the game freezes, 10 seconds later my monitor goes black and I'm staring at my desktop. I still hear sounds, it looks like it's minimized but from here I can still move blindly (I hear myself grunting from fire). When I hit esc I see the game cursor but can't click anything. It does this for a few minutes or until I alt ctrl delete my way out of it. I have since tried to lower the graphics settings and clearing the cache but neither of those had any effect. I tried stepping away from the computer for 5 minutes to let it load and same result.

output_log (shortened to fit size limit): https://pastebin.com/7BUfgkSf

If you need to know anything else, let me know and I'll respond. I hope there's something that can be done with this because I was just starting to get really into the game and would not be happy to start from the beginning.

Catastrophic Bug -- Save is Corrupted, cannot finish game

$

Subnautica had been running fine for me beforehand. However, after saving and quitting the game says that my save file has been damaged. The result of this is that I have lost ALL my items, progress, etc. The lifepod is still there, but there are no items in it, and the fabricator, power cells, and medkit generator are all missing.

What is going on, and more importantly can I fix this? This was a 20+ hour save. I've been playing for a long while and have had nothing like this happen before. I'm frankly quite devastated.

Finding out what the precursors looked like - with logic!

$

0
Ok, we're probably never going to see the precursors ingame. But we can find out what they looked like from their structures.

1. They had tentacles.
The buildings have no stairs, only ramps. I can't really imagine a tentacled alien climbing steps.
2. They had hands - or at least arms
The data consoles have keys - how else would they use them? Also, how else would they hold the artifact keys?
3. They have large brains.
They're telepathic, so they have to have a larger brain.

What does that sound like? Yep, you guessed it.

A WARPER.

I'm not saying warpers are precursors, they just look like them. We make our robots look like us, (example - C-3PO) so why wouldn't they?

Hey guys!

Subnautica is currently in Early Access and as such you may from time to time encounter bugs and in the worst case, crashes. If you have issues with stability of Subnautica, please post your issues with as much detail as possible (video/screenshots/descriptions), followed by the following requested information:

Example Topic Title:
[Crash] Open my Locker and Crash! [Version Number]

1) Please run dxdiag.exe (search windows for it) on your systems and hit the button 'save all information' in the bottom right. Save this file for later.

LHmLsSd.png

2) Navigate to your Subnautica Folder in Steam (should be steamapps\common\Subnautica)

3) Open the Subnautica_Data folder and grab a copy of 'output_log.txt'

PJAwuF0.png

4) Upload all the text of these to something like http://pastebin.com/ and post the public links to them with your forum posts.

These 2 files will GREATLY help us in tracking down issues with Subnautica. Thanks!

Edit by Jonas:
We've also got a very similar guide with pictures for each step on Steam.
And as in every good tech support:
  • Please make sure that your Windows is up to date.
  • Please make sure that your drivers are up to date.
  • Please make sure your PC meets the minimum system requirements.
  • Please close all other applications before starting the game.
  • Have you tried turning it off and on again? ;)
