Hey guys!

Subnautica is currently in Early Access and as such you may from time to time encounter bugs and in the worst case, crashes. If you have issues with stability of Subnautica, please post your issues with as much detail as possible (video/screenshots/descriptions), followed by the following requested information:

Example Topic Title:
[Crash] Open my Locker and Crash! [Version Number]

1) Please run dxdiag.exe (search windows for it) on your systems and hit the button 'save all information' in the bottom right. Save this file for later.

LHmLsSd.png

2) Navigate to your Subnautica Folder in Steam (should be steamapps\common\Subnautica)

3) Open the Subnautica_Data folder and grab a copy of 'output_log.txt'

PJAwuF0.png

4) Upload all the text of these to something like http://pastebin.com/ and post the public links to them with your forum posts.

These 2 files will GREATLY help us in tracking down issues with Subnautica. Thanks!

And many more mods to come!

TROUBLESHOOTING:
  • When I try to use them in-game, the mods don't work/load!
This most likely means that you didn't install the modloader or the mods correctly, or the game has updated. Please double check that you followed the installation instructions for the modloader and the mods, or make sure you follow the procedure for a game update.
  • When I open the game, I get stuck at empty screen with the Subnautica Logo in the background
This most likely means that the modloader failed at patching the game. This could either be because of some catastrophic failure, or the game updated and broke one or more mods. Make sure that all the mods you're using are at their latest version. If they are, feel free to leave a comment about it. MAKE SURE YOU INCLUDE YOUR OUTPUT_LOG.TXT This log file is located in Subnautica_Data

I've been playing Natural Selection, one of Charlie Clevelands (UWE Founder) first games, since its beta. Like 15 years ago. For many years. I also played somewhat NS2, yet not as much as NS. But since I loved NS so much, I kept following UWEs activities frequently. Not only because I was hoping for a Natural Selection 3, but also because I wanted to see how Charlie and UWE do.

There have been times when I wondered how you're paying your bills because it did not really seem like you're making money. I would not have wondered if this ship sank.

And I have to say I've initially been quite sceptical about Subnautica, but seeing it live now really changed my mind. It's a great game that has found its niche and it seems to be a great success. Even big streamers on Twitch play it, it got great ratings, and that actually makes me very happy. Seeing Charlie going from a small modder to a successfull leader of a gaming company, following his dreams and accomplishing his desire. That's awesome.

I just wanted to leave this here and sincerely congratulate Charlie and UWE!
I'm looking forward to what's to come next :)

Subnautica Idea's (Feel free to post your ideas!)

Hello Subnautica, I understand that it can take time, months or even longer to create large detailed structures but I do have some ideas so please hear me out! OK so to get started I think that we can all say that the submarines in the game are awesome! Others may not be so fond of them but to my perspective (and others) I think I can figure out that we would like some more vehicles, even though we have the Cyclops, Seamoth, and the Prawn Suit; but what if there were more vehicles, one's a little more interesting! So at this point I believe that you have heard of the 3 concept art submarines with the names being Manta, Draconis, and Shark <---(Not Official), so here is where this get's interesting so as you know we have the Cyclops which is not exactly made for the conditions of the Lava Biome, so since the Draconis is a very armored submarine it could serve some purpose there or even for encountering other powerful creatures such as the Sea Dragon, Sea Emperor, and even the Reaper Leviathan. http://i.imgur.com/iCszsQs.png <--- (Draconis Image Link)

Next up we have the Manta! Now if you look at the image the size looks Massive!; but in fact that is still not the biggest submarine that I am covering but we will get to that eventually! So the Manta is a very big submarine and in my perspective couldn't really be used as a usable exploring submarine, instead it could be used as a sub-base (Submarine Base), I say this because it has very large expanding sides which looks as if it could provide enough for 4 people considering that the living space is almost like a rounded out square. Now this would be a great submarine for those that can't build a base at certain depth and there main base (or other bases) are too far away so the manta could be used for an emergency base that would be big enough to provide enough living space to provide a Bedroom, Food supply room (Fish tanks and ETC), Storage room, and even possibly a room to be used for constructing! I believe that this would be a great idea since we can't always build a base but to my perspective the Manta still looks to be big enough to house the Cyclops with the Cyclops housing the Seamoth or Prawn Suit! http://i.imgur.com/S4gWnYo.png <--- (Manta Image Link)

For the third and final of my suggestions we have the one and only submarine, Shark! Now this submarine for sure looks capable enough to house the Draconis housing the Cyclops housing either the Seamoth or Prawn Suit (assuming the Draconis can house the Cyclops)! Now the shark would be great because even though if the other two submarines were to be implemented, they would still not be foreseeable to withstand the Sea Emperor. However Assuming that the Manta or Draconis can withhold the Sea Emperor it would still be a very nice submarine to have considering that you could be the king of the sea. Along with the implantation these submarines could be new technology to make them! Also another thing the Shark would be great for those who want to explore the Subnautica in deep depths that the Seamoth and Prawn Suit somehow would not be able to handle. Even though that the Shark is the biggest submarine by far it would be great for fending of those fierce Reaper Leviathans! The Shark would also be a great way to explore the depths of the Aurora or even Pre Cursor locations! Finally along with the Sharks Enormous size it could be used as a base just like the Manta except more practical for moving to locations. http://i.imgur.com/6O9Lze6.png <--- (Shark Image Link)

Anyways thanks for reading this Subnautica and I hope that you can take these submarines into consideration and possibly think of implementing them into the PC game whenever possible! I believe that it would an amazing improvement and update if these submarines were to be implemented into the game! Anyway's until then I will be watching closely for more updates to subnautica (PC)! Thank's. P.S. If you could, please send me details of any info that you think of these submarines!

Subnautica purchase links

In case anyone is curious, Subnautica is available for purchase via:

1. Steam
2. Humble Bundle
3. Arc
4. Oculus
5. WeGame
6. XBoxOne (preview)

P.S. Most of these end up requiring Steam. WeGame is a competing service in China - on which Subnautica costs 38 yuan (~$6 USD).

Build tool bug when rebinding left and right mouse keys.

$

In the event you're left handed and swap the left and right mouse buttons in the keybind menu you can no longer use the build tool because whenever you try to select a piece to build from the build tool menu it just open/closes the menu.

Currently the only way to select items in the build menu is via the mouse button click, event rebinding the button to a keyboard button does not allow you to select build pieces in the build tool menu except by clicking the mouse button.

This never used to be a problem in previous builds, so hoping this can be fixed relatively easily?

is the 1.0 release build 59783?

I noticed after their "red button" launch subnautica updated, but the update was only 5.4 mb, and instead of it displaying 1.0 I'm seeing 59783 on the main menu screen in the upper right.

Given the absolute mess the livestream has been thus far bug wise, I figured I should ask if this is indeed 1.0 before beginning to play given I'd rather not have to restart a day or three down the road for the latest build?

Prawn now needs 20 fragments?

$

This has been popping up on some play throughs, but once i get my third prawn suit fragment, the PDA changes from saying i need 4 total to 20. Once i find the 4th this does not corrrect itself and says i need 16 more fragments to unlock the prawn. As far as I know there are not that many prawn suit fragments in the whole game. Theres 4-5 in the Aurora, and 3-4 a piece in a pair of other wrecks bringing that total to a max of 14. Then there is the odd prawn arm that is part of the core prawn suit in another wreck or two where you can find fragments of the arm attachments.

Any case, as far as i know, this glitch does not reverse itself after it happens, thus breaking the save and making the game virtually unbeatable as some materials required can only be obtained from the big mining rocks. Kyanite especially as far as i know there are maybe 5 pieces that you can grab by hand but 3 of those each have to be used for cyclops and prawn depth upgrades, meaning you would not have enough to make extra tablets to get into the main containment facility, or to make the second stage of the neptune rocket.

Feeling Pretty Bummed...

Can anyone explain why the decision was made to try and release this game on Xbox?

The more I've been thinking about it, the more I've realized that many of the features that users yearned for were either cut or never developed simply because they wanted to be able to cram this game into the pitiful box that the lackluster platform supports.

First and foremost is a co-op multiplayer mode. They try to claim that it was a fundamental problem in their original design that prevented them from going down that path; however, a small, random group of developers were able to decompile the code and make many of the necessary changes on their own on a part-time basis. When you consider that along with the massive undertaking that it would be to develop the type of multiplayer experience that this game would need to implement in order to maintain cohesion of the underlying story on the Xbox platform, it begins to feel like Microsoft's offering was the true impedance. Doing so on the PC would have been a trivial matter compared to many of the other mechanics developed for this game.

Xbox Live is undeniably powerful. However; if your multiplayer experience does not fit tidily within a small set of scenarios, then you are forced to write a completely custom implementation that meets their very strict set of specifications against their very convoluted API. It is an incredibly onerous task that is prohibitive unless you are a behemoth like Bethesda or Square Enix.

When you look at the desire to develop VR support for this game, the decision becomes even more of a head-scratcher. It is literally the only modern gaming console that does not support VR in any way. Even the Switch can be rigged for it. Had they targeted a console that also supported VR, then I believe that it is a feature that would have received more attention. It certainly would have increased the percentage of the user base that wanted to play with that technology.

ssyfzgpkkf4r.jpg

Then there is the content that downright received a cut for no apparent reason. Many rumors have circulated (and some have been verified by the UW team) that some of those cuts were made simply because it wasn't going to be feasible for the Xbox release. Terraforming, anyone?

I just don't get it. It doesn't even seem economically justifiable considering that the Xbox is dead last in popularity in today's market and has played second fiddle to the PS4 its entire life. The Switch has nearly tripled the number of sales the Xbox One had in the first year after its release, and is second only to the PS4 in the same time frame. The one and only claim-to-fame that the Xbox has going for it is, multiplayer *sad trombone*... I just don't understand. If they'd truly gone cross-plat, then it would make more sense. If they'd gone with PS4 as the "third wheel" rather than the Xbox, then it would still make more sense. Heck - I'd even throw them a bone if they'd switched :D gears and gone with the Switch given the original mobile roots that this game spawned from. This just doesn't seem rational, at all...

TL:DR: Xbox sucks...

I honestly never thought I'd see something like this happen, let alone on Reddit, of all places - people coming together to encourage everyone to buy the game and support the devs rather than get a pirated copy. I think it speaks volumes about the quality of the game itself, and about the quality of the people who play it. And just look at the upvotes each of the positive comments receives. I was honestly speechless when I stumbled upon this thread.

Game's values file

I remember like a year or two ago going in to a specific file in the game's directory that contained all of the speed values in the game, and the player's oxygen and hunger/ thirst values, and I remember being able to edit those values and fundamentally change parts of the game with it. All I did was increase the base oxygen from 30 to 120, and increase the oxygen that any tank gives you by 180, and slightly increase the base swimming speed, and the speed boost of fins (I mean, you are genetically modified to live in an aquatic world, it would make sense if you could hold your breath for more than 30 seconds)

Now, a year or two later, I've completely forgotten which file that was. Do any of you happen to know what file I'm thinking of? I can't seem to find it.
