What else are you playing?

Anyone else using the off-topic void?

What games are you really enjoying at the moment? I'm always wondering what kind of stuff you guys are into. It could be old, new, or in the middle, I don't care. If you love a game, let me know.

I'm absolutely loving Ultimate General: Civil War. It's a simply amazing game that's shaping up to be a spectacular RTS with a very solid campaign. The AI is probably the best I've ever seen from a RTS game, bar none. It's how the Total War AI should always have been. It's developed by the guy who does all the TW Darthmods so it's no wonder. If you enjoy RTS games or love history, this is a must.

Battle Brothers is my GOTY though. Turn-based combat, violence aplenty, lots of loot and mercs who you genuinely care about and feel devastated when an Orc beheads them or cuts off their arm, forcing you to send them into battle without a shield so they die, and you cry.
It's a really addictive and enjoyable game, one I keep going back to. 300 hours on Steam and it's not even 1.0.

In other gaming news, last week I started Fallout 4 again after getting about half way through it when it first came out. This time it's massively modded and to be honest I enjoyed spending 10 or so hours modding it more than I enjoy playing it. It's just so... repetitive? Mundane? It's like going through the motions. I don't think I'll be playing it for much longer.

Shadow Tactics just came out. I blasted through it pretty quickly. I loved the Commandos games when I was younger and this felt like a return to those old times. It's basically a Commandos clone set in Feudal Japan, not very much to say, but if you liked Commandos it's definitely worth checking out for nostalgia's sake.

I just installed Broken Sword: Director's Cut. I never played it so I'm looking forward to that. It's been so long since I did a point-n-click, Shardlight and Technobabylon were good though.

Still occasionally playing;
NEO Scavenger
Infested Planet
FTL
Starsector
MOW:AS2
Rimworld
Prison Architect
etc.

Anyway, I hope some of you feel like replying. It's a totally open thread, anything gaming related goes. List 'em, talk about 'em, give opinions on 'em, ask about 'em.

Everything is red and blue

When you would go to the old movies and they would give you those glasses with blue on one side and red on the other. That is what I am seeing in game. It is like it is in a 3D mode and I cannot figure how to turn it off. On the bottom right hand corner it were saying things like the name of the game and told me that I can toggle this info on and off by pressing ctrl+alt+ins. Any help where I can set my game back to normal? I have already deleted the game and reinstalled it.

Borealis Rising - A Subnautica Story, V2.0.
By: Bugzapper (Lee Perkins).

CHAPTER ONE

Unlike a certain Mr. Samuel L. Clemens, the reports of my death are entirely accurate.

Alexander Fergus Selkirk lived to the ripe old age of 115 years, and died three times in the process. We're not talking about any 'dying on the operating table'- type deaths, either. The first time, I blundered into the path of a hungry Stalker and paid the price for my singular lack of caution. All things considered, I got off extremely lightly. Having a working Valkyrie Field in the Lifepod gave me a second chance, and I dare say that I learned a valuable lesson from that experience.

Considering that this planet is essentially a heaving mass of aquatic life forms with a marked taste for human flesh, it would serve you well to keep your wits about you. If you've accessed my earlier log entries, you'll probably be aware of the most prevalent threats that planet 4546B (a.k.a 'Alpha Hydrae IV' or 'Manannán') has to offer. I have done my best to provide a broad assessment of each alien species encountered so far, including their general appearance, typical behaviour patterns and perceived threat levels. Please be advised that this information is by no means complete and highly subject to revision, since this planet has entered a state of accelerated evolution. It is entirely possible that new life forms are appearing even as this account is being written.

Yes, you did read that last sentence correctly.

My second death was a rather more unpleasant surprise. Approximately eight months after Aurora crashed on this planet, a Torgaljin Corporation commercial frigate arrived and commenced highly secretive operations near one of my undersea bases. Since I had already launched a deep-space distress beacon by that time and the frigate De Ruyter had made no obvious attempts to contact me, I became immediately suspicious of their intentions. A few days later, a Torgaljin security team entered my base and I was murdered by their leader, Invigilator Galen Tomar. After being restored to life by the Valkyrie Field, I commenced a retaliatory action that culminated in the destruction of De Ruyter and the loss of its crew. This particular outcome was not at all intentional, although the follow-up operation against Torgaljin Corp's base in the Lava Castle was entirely successful and no further human lives were lost during our assault on this facility.

As for what happened to the inhabitants of the Torgaljin base in the aftermath of that raid, I can only speculate how events might have unfolded. As the Lava Castle base has been effectively isolated for the past hundred and two years, I am understandably reluctant to carry out a detailed reconnaissance mission in order to ascertain whether anyone is still alive down there. Camera drones have been sent there on several occasions, although they were deliberately made to be unable to operate the base's airlock controls. My greatest concern is that Torgaljin personnel might capture a more sophisticated drone and begin reverse-engineering its more accessible components. Considering that I took particular care in completely shutting down Torgaljin's illegal operations on this planet, I had no intention of handing over what amounted to an instant technological advantage. They were slapped down hard, and I want those bastards to stay slapped down.
Permanently.

What should the devs prioritize in developement?

Will the Carar effectively kill you?

When the whole concept of the character being infected with this extremely aggressive bacteria was implemented in the game i was under the impression that if not cured in time it would eventually take its toll and kill you in the long run, were the player not fast enough to get the cure in time. I've played lots and lots of games since then, many of them i survived well over 100 days and never did the carar killed me outright. I know for a fact that somewhere in the game it is specified that the Carar usually kills anyone infected within something like 2-3 weeks at most after the initial infection.

Now i know the game is still in development but we're nearing the end of new content implementation and this question is still to this day unanswered so i decided to ask out if anyone in the community had found an answer to this one. Ive searched on the web but did'nt find any so far ....

Decoy 2.0

So the first decoy is cheap, if bulky.

How about a second version, much more expensive (ingots and rarer stuff, maybe even ion or precursor toys, vs scrap and a battery).

Except this version teleports back. Not much functional change beyond that, it would recharge on return, to not make it TOO easy to use.

XXL Multipurpose room, Giant Aquarium and 45° corridor and construction

$

I posted these in a general discussion post, then realized this is probably the better place.

Suggestion #1:
It would be great to see a very large Multipurpose Room (I call it an XXL Multipurpose Room as seen below), along with a Huge Aquarium. These would be stack-able just like the existing Multipurpose Room. The idea is pretty self explanatory and is pictured here:

bryqfzmraxon.png

Suggestion #2:
The ability to build at 45° angles off the multipurpose rooms (not just the current 90°) along with an added 45° corridor would be fantastic. Building at a 45° or diagonal would vastly increase the variety of building options, design elements and esthetics of ones undersea base. Angle construction would allow for a huge variety in large and small sea-base designs. Additionally, this diagonal construction would allow for one to build around and preserve Iconic and beautiful natural undersea fauna and terrain, and would be very alien-eco-friendly. See examples below:

What do you think, let me know below?

Can we have multiplayer coop? Pleeeeease...?
I mean, how hard can it be?!

Flayra wrote: »
(23rd August 2016) Our thoughts on this have become more clear now, as we've added more to the game and see how much work we still have to do on the game.

We are NOT going to be adding multiplayer of any kind to Subnautica. We would have to start over from scratch and it would take us years of work to do it.

I know that's not what you guys want to hear but we have our hands FULL with the basic v1.0 version of Subnautica.
Obraxis wrote: »
(September 2015) Adding Co-Op or multiplayer is not simple, at all. It would require months of work. We want it to happen, but it would mean we basically stop working on the game right now, and do co-op for months. Currently we'd much rather make a great game first, then see if it's feasible for co-op to happen. That being said, most of us on the team want it to happen. We just can't promise it right now.
Flayra wrote: »
(26th May 2016) We would love to add co-op gameplay someday, but it will have to be a new game. It's waaaay too much work to simply "add" to Subnautica. We might make a standalone game focused on co-op (like "Subnautica Together") or maybe we'll make a sequel.

But it's clear that Co-op is something you guys would love and we'd love it too. Imagine piloting your Cyclops with a few people: one at the helm, another repairing/building machinery, another managing fuel and energy systems and another off on small missions in the Seamoth, reporting what they're finding?

I'm not sure how everything works/where things are and the game doesn't tell me anything. Where can I find out?
A huge part of the joy of Subnautica is exploring working things out for yourself, but if you're stuck you can always refer to the Subnautica Wiki page and there's a map here.

Will subnautica be coming to the PS4?
Obraxis wrote: »
(2nd June 2016) There is a good chance of it, though we're not working on it right now. However, we're exploring the possibility.
Flayra wrote: »
(26th May 2016) We would love to bring Subnautica to the PS4. It's an awesome system and Sony seems to treat developers well.
However, they don't have "preview" program. So we can't ship it there until we hit v1.0.

Any chance of getting 60fps?
Obraxis wrote: »
(27th May 2016) Highly unlikely to hit 60fps on XboxOne, just not technically possible while keeping the game at the visual level we want.

The next update will have some improvements that should be noticeable in some places, but optimizations are not a quick-fix. They are complicated, often take a while and tend to go in towards the end of development so the game and gameplay itself can be a focus. We'll do the best we can as we develop the game to keep improving.

What are you guys working on at the moment?
Flayra wrote: »
(28th May 2016) We are working hard on performance as well. Graphics aren't the issue at the moment, it's mostly our streaming system, so we think we can make some noticeable improvements there. Probably not for the first patch, but in the ones after that (we want to get our currently done work on the PC in your hands as soon as possible).
For a detailed and up to date view of everything that's being worked on right now, along with an impressive To Do List, take a look at the Subnautica Development Blog.

The Debug Console
To get around may bugs, especially those that cause items to disappear or not spawn at all (like the blueprint bug) you can use the Debug Console in game to spawn items and perform other actions. To access it, SIMULTANEOUSLY press BR+LB+A on your controller, then enter one of the commands listed here or from this list of spawnable items. This is not a cheat as such and has been recommended by the Developers as a tool to get around bugs, although overuse may diminish your enjoyment of Subnautica.
If you are having any other bug related issues, please post them to the Subnautica Playtesting Blog. Alliteratively, please read @EVILONE15 's pinned and regularly updated Bugs On Xbox thread and post a comment there if your bug that is not mentioned.

Second, or third bases?

$

How many of you set up additional bases and what purpose does it fill?
I know the main base usually has everything--Moonpool(s), Alien Containment, Growbeds, water, fabrication, upgrades and recharge. But what about a second base so you don't have to trek all the way back to your initial?
For me: it was a small room that was right at the beginning of the inactive Lava zone. The little place had 2 Kayanite crystals, sulfur, and tons of useless Obsidian Outcrops. The ambient temperature was around 50c so it made it ideal for 6 thermal plants to power 2 Water Filtration Machines (I realize now I have an over-abundance of food, water and medpacks), a fabricator, moonpool (with modification station) and some food.
I really thought about another base before that one, but I cannot think of another location that would be nearly as beneficial. Anyone?

XBOX UNOFFICIAL BUG POST
Started this Post originally to get the ball rolling didn't realise how many would respond, so if you have bugs that are not on the list just mention it within the comment section below, depending on free time and playing subnautica it may take me awhile to respond or even update the list, thanks from a fellow subnautica fan for the help guys. Hopefully the major bugs will get fixed and help get the game running smoother in the foreseeable future

BUG LIST UPDATED [09/06/16]

- Hi I am new to the game on Xbox. I wanted to report that the game also crashes while being in the main menu just sitting in idle. I wanted to pause the game in the main menu and come back later. I tried if it was accidental but the game crashes every time while idle in main menu. It does it within an hour and quite some turns now. - oelikoelie

- As soon as I finished building a multi-purpose room the game crashed and I lost all of my data, the game denies that I have created any saved games - Rawrr

- I just sealed up the radiation leak and decided to head home. Upon entering my base you could constantly hear the sound of your character obtaining air from the purple brains that release 3 bubbles of air every now and then. - destinykid

- Glitch threw sea-moth while docking into moon pool causing you to sink until you hit bottom. - JONNYK301

- Your base will become transparent while in the Cyclops. - Olympicwolf

- closing bulkheads crashes the game - bbot0625

anything else that comes to me I will update this post, also anyone can contribute to the list, I know its a preview and all just here to help, also to note I will have no idea if and when these bugs are fixed (guessing after a bug update in the near future) so when that happens I will keep it up to date.

Female Avatar Option Plz

Dear Unknown Worlds Subnautica Team,

Please include the option to play as a female protagonist.

By looking at this chart we can see that females make up approximately 50% of the population.
rag6ly717uxy.png

That tells us that including the female avatar will help market the game to an audience of twice the current size. Again, that's doubling your sales group in a single art asset - a pretty good value.

Secondly, when creating the female avatar, remember, that this is NOT a good representation of a female.
6nbum7b0ut9x.jpg
That's bad. Too skinny. No curves. Nothing feminine. Don't do that.

The following images demonstrates a much better female body type:
kqyqsv6ldv6d.jpg
See how she has hips and curves? Now that's a silhouette that reads 'female'. And in case you're wondering, that's Christina Hendricks in the picture.

In summary, your efforts to include a female protagonist in Subnautica would be greatly appreciated by everyone.

Thank you for reading,

~FirstEd

In my opinion there are to many signals aquired from the comms relay in the beggining of the game. I think they should just be pings in the ping menu, instead of items in the inventory. How many people agree with me?

Okay fell through the ground again. I saved this time I think that underground cave is there for a reason. If you fall through and are not fast enough to catch it let yourself fall chances are you will land in the underground cave I am sure you know how to get out of there. there are also floating island under there that will catch you that lead to the cave if you have your grapple hook or jet pack they will get you out. if you miss those islands well it was nice knowing you.

Waterproof locker items keep disappearing

For FOUR TIMES in a row, I've had to spawn in a bunch of items to reimburse the lost items. Whenever I put items in any waterproof locker and then go ~400 meters away (and then come back) all of the items that were previously inside mysteriously disappear. Like I said, this has happened four times in a row now. I literally just have a list of items that I would of stored written down to just spawn in later, I have to drop everything extra...

Creature idle/play animations

$

So, I had a dream that I was exploring one of the wrecks right by the Aurora when a reaper poked his head in. I immediately jammed myself into a corner he couldn't reach into, so he sat and waited, playing with the sand using his mandible things. He wasn't roaring, just sitting quietly, knowing that I had to come out eventually. At one point, he got bored and poked around into my corner with his mandible, trying to spook me out.
Based on the PDA entry of reapers being stupid, waiting isn't really in their character, but reaching a mandible into your hidey-hole to try and scoop you out is. An animation ref could be putting a marble into a can you can't fit your hand into and trying to get it out with one finger.
This got me thinking about creatures doing things other than just roaming around for food. Maybe playing, sleeping, or doing like my dream Reaper did, waiting by the hole it's prey is in for it to come out. As far as environment interactions go, Sandsharks playing around the floater rocks, sitting on them to drift up, or grabbing a floater to play with. Crabsquids picking things off walls and eating them. Stalkers or bone sharks doing flips and jumping out of the water for the fun of it, show off to attract mates, or to chase nimble prey. Stalkers could grab lengths of creepvines for play, like tug-of-war, to line nests, or to hide their precious metal stashes.

The idea was pitched to reddit here: https://www.reddit.com/r/subnautica/comments/6olhos/creature_idle_animations_idea/

Player retention/New Players

July 5th, 2017. This is what a brand new NS2 player experiences. https://www.twitch.tv/videos/156967394

He was very forgiving of the game and unbelievably lasted a full hour. I doubt he'll ever play it again. I remember when I first started, there was no tutorial, no bots, no rookie mode/servers, etc. I jumped right in and learned from top tier players among other rookies and friends. What to do about it...hmmm.

Off base: What if a new person joins (under 500 elo let's say) and they're "tagged" or matched with a higher skilled player (2000+ elo perhaps). Tagged meaning they see their "mentor" as a colored/highlighted player on the field and map. It's indicated on the scoreboard as well. The "mentor" would see who they've been assigned on the scoreboard. Now get out of base, work together and have fun!
