Much brighter flares to make them worth using. Illuminate an entire area (but for a shorter time)

$

What it says on the tin. This will also give Crashfish powder more use. Basically, you'd use a flare to light up an entire area, like the entire (outside of) the wreck by Lifepod 17. You wouldn't want to carry it any more, though.

Perhaps make it frighten away some predators, maybe draw others in (frighten away Sandsharks, draw in Biters to their doom).

Maybe make then composed of 2 ingredients: Magnesium and Crashfish powder. If that was the case, though, you wouldn't want to cut down the burning time (maybe you wouldn't want to do that anyways, Crashfish powder isn't that commonly found).

Right now, it's sort of like a campfire, I'm thinking more of a mega bonfire.

Scanner upgrade chip for the Cyclops

The cyclops has 3 camera drones with adjustable lighting. Whilst piloting the sub, look to your left and look for a little icon. When you find it, click. You should be sent to the first camera. Click to cycle lights (off, slightly on, on) or scroll to change cameras.

I was not talking about the "fixed" cameras the Cyclops has. I meant a free camera drone like you have in MechWarriorOnline one that you can "zoom out/move" to get a more distant view from your sub, to get a better overlook of your surroundings. One you could circle your sub with, without the need to manually launch and retrieve it. It should be an option. You switch to 3rd person cam and the drone leaves your Cyclops and stops at a certain distance facing your current view direction. After that short launch moment you could controll it to "fly" closer to your Cyclops or to circle around it. Kinde like a free camera just a bit restricted in its movement speed and the distance it can keep to your Cyclops.

They already have these in the Scanner Room, so a Scanner upgrade for the Cyclops would be amazing.

A Scanner Room attached to the Cyclops would be great. You could even have the drones attach to the inside of the Seamoth /PRAWN dock doors. To use the drones, pop the doors open, and instead of undocking the vehicle, release the drones.

After removing terraforming, add it back, but only to certain areas of terraformable dirt, placed on top of the normal non-terraforming terrain. This way you could limit the total amount of terraforming possible to manageable levels.
Probably only possible after v1.0, and then only after more optimization of the terraforming code.

Just a thought, I have no idea if this could possibly work.

INFORMATION:
1: I know, I know, @Bugzapper already did and is doing Subnautica stories of his own, and yes I did get the idea to share mine here from him doing it, but I'm not copying the idea, I'm just using it to create my own completely separate story. Also Bugzapper might know that I already tried doing one of these but I was getting bored writing it myself, so I stopped really early on. I'm doing it again, though, and better this time!

2: This is going to be written from the points of view of different characters, like ASOIAF but first person. I'll start every post with the perspective that post will be from so there's no confusion :)

3: I go on about it a lot, but I write a lot for a hobby. I'm writing a fantasy right now, but nobody's going to see that in an age. So I thought I'd post a different story here for you all to see. What I'm trying to say is the point of this thread is to share my writing and get feedback so that I can improve. So go nuts ;)

SAMPSON LARK

Where we flew was dangerous. Our small ship had scraped across the stars for two whole months to arrive here, and it was all too likely that we would be shot down before we made planetfall. 4546B had not been visited in thirty years. A mining vessel named Aurora was to build a phase gate in the system, using this planet as a checkpoint for incoming resources. She was shot down in high atmosphere of the planet. There was only one survivor of that wreck, and don't go asking me how he made it back home.

Alterra has given this ship, Eclipse, something to counteract the laser beam that shot down the last three ships to enter orbit. We have been given a Plasma Shield to protect against the blast. We didn't travel two months just to get blown to smithereens in high orbit. Even if we did I'd survive, just like he did back then.

Eclipse was a bulldog-class trading vessel, given the task to make permanent settlement on the planet until larger ships could arrive. I was sat at the controls of the beautiful craft. I was in command. If Penna wanted to turn the ship even an inch Galactic-West, she would have to consult me first, or if Zenn wanted to make the jump to warp-speed I would be the one who made the final call, or if Malla wanted to activate the Plasma Shield he would have to ask me about it.

Finally in the distance we saw the white glowing light of a nearby star. At the first sight of it cheers erupted in the bridge of the ship where I, Zenn, Malla and Penna controlled the ship. Tary performed maintenance, which wasn't so glamorous, and Otta was just an engineer. Malla was the first to see the approaching sun. He pointed it out to us all, and in response came a flood of laughter and delight. Zenn rushed downstairs to tell Tary and Otta where we were. I don't know why she would just abandon this view like she did, and for the silliest of reasons, but all that mattered was that she was there when 4546B came into view, as were Tary and Otta. We stood at the front window of the ship for minutes, and we could have stayed for hours. Reluctantly I ordered everyone back to their stations and, not so reluctantly, Tary and Otta back downstairs.

"Zenn, slow the ship down; we'll be in orbit in five minutes, I don't want to go crashing into that water there." In front of my seat were panels crammed with buttons, switches and levers. I flicked and pressed many, as everyone did.

"Ship slowing, Captain." Zenn informed as he slowly raised a dark, glistening lever. A hum that had droned for hours around them suddenly began to quieten, and drop in pitch. The blue planet grew enormous out the front of the ship. Clouds swirled over the ocean, small islands were dotted over its surface. It was so intricate I swear I could identify individual waves that rippled across the planet. Suddenly on my monitor a red warning began flashing. It kept flashing, straining my eyes, telling me that an unidentified energy pulse was heading directly towards us.

"Malla! Shield, now!" I turned in my seat to point to her, and the window was covered in a sheet of rippling blue. With a thunderous roar it turned vibrant yellow, with the mix of green and blue. Sparks began flying about the room. Was the shield working at all? The warning still flickered and there was no way to know for sure. Then the bridge turned dark, and the hum fell silent. The beam had ceased, as had our shield, and we fell faster than a diving falcon towards the planet's deep blue oceans.

"What happened?!" Malla roared. "I thought you said that thing would hold!" I did, didn't I? I wasn't certain, but I was sure Alterra would not forsake us.

"The beam must have bypassed the shield somehow, it shut off all of our power." I checked a damage feed of Eclipse. "We have no power, but the ship is not damaged. Now quickly; brace for impact!" I held onto the arms of my seat, as did everyone else. The thought of Tary and Otta rattling around below eased my mind, for all I knew these were the last seconds of my life. The ship hit the water, and it fell no longer.

Are Exos viable?

This isn't a nuanced poll because it isn't a nuanced question.
I'm not asking if exos are viable in your hands, or with your particular team, or just in large player counts, or in a hallway on veil, or only if you can successfully rush them by 8 minutes etc - nor am I asking if they only did X or were paired with Y would they be viable. I am not asking if they are fun.

I am asking if they are currently a viable strategy and tool you can rely on, for any game?

For competitive and public. Are they a viable tech path? If you were commanding would you prioritize them?
(Forgetting about that player who won't stop asking for em) Would you rely or depend on them being a viable tier 3 strategy on par with jet packs??

Thanks for your input.

Story Development Idea

(SPOILER alert on the last paragraph)

For me at least, having you meet other people would ruin it. I think that you should get a message from other survivors saying to meet at the rendezvous point (probably the floating island). Then you get a signal which shows you to the beach. On your way to the island, when you are approaching, you see the small silhouettes of the other people. You are not close enough to them to talk or anything, just close enough to see them. Suddenly you notice a tail in the water. It's a reaper! The reaper jumps up into the air and grabs one of the survivors, as well as knocking the others into the water. Their screams are silenced. The ocean is tinted red, but neither the reaper or the survivors can be found.

I think this would truly give a sense of isolation, similar to when the sunbeam is shot down.

Graphics error - Transparent moon

At night, the large, orange moon/sister planet is semi-transparent. While the lit sections (orange) are opaque, areas in shadow instead allow stars to shine through. So, either the moon is a very strange shape, or this is a little transparency glitch.

Not game-breaking or critical, but just looks weird. :)

Is it a bug? No, it's a blob.

Yesterday, after bringing my Cyclops into its parking space on the surface above my main seabase, I found the dang thing wouldn't level out. It was sitting there with a nose-up attitude that was throwing things off. Did the usual to try to get him to cooperate - jump it, submerge and re-surface - and no dice. Still listing. So, like any good submariner, I did a hull crawl. (Little used procedure with modern subs involving putting a diver or two into the water to comb the surface of the sub for anything out of the ordinary.)

Was it a bug? Nope! There was a floater attached to the sub's side, right near the waterline and forward of amidships. Popped the floater off and wouldn't'cha know it, the sub leveled right out.

Now I have no idea where that annoying little floater came from, nor why it decided to make friends with my sub. I can say that it's going to be stuck to something deep in the Lost River as punishment for that little indiscretion, though.

Point being: before thinking "I've found a bug," make sure it's not something doing exactly what it's supposed to be doing. :)

Submersible colors and names - what do you like?

Now on my fourth or fifth new game (man, I love Subnautica!) and doing some of the same things over again, I found myself wondering what other people do with their submersibles. I always go with just about the same color schemes and often names every time: most of my gear is colored in high-vis safety chartreuse so I can find it more easily; my Seamoth gets named "Tempest" (because originally I was going to call the Cyclops "Teapot" for a literary joke); my PRAWN is named "Leviathan" (after the so-bad-it's-good Peter Weller movie); and Cyclops usually gets called "Nautilus" for naval history's sake.

What habits do you usually keep to? (Or what were some of the more humorous/outlandish/creative things you've done to your submersibles?)

Camera Drones - What's The Point?

KK, so I have made my vary first scanner room and have been testing out the drones. BUT!! They only have a range of 500m? What's the point? If I have to build a scanner room in any region that I want to use the drones to explore, then I may as well swim to the area and explore it myself.

The range of the drones really needs to increase dramatically. At the moment they are absolutely useless.

PDA transparency and showing problems [Build 38439]

Since this recent build ive got problems with my PDA. Whenever i pull it up, it seems to be blurry a bit in certain places but display almost normally while im in other places:

Whenever im in a base, it will be blurry
When im in the water, sometimes it will display almost normally, sometimes it will be blurry a bit
When im in the cyclops, there will be a bug wherein it will seem to open ''outside of the cyclops. It will be only viewable outside the cyclops thru the big window.

I cant seem to post screenies in the bug report forum so i'll link them out down below.

This bug, after testing it a bit around, seem to be affected mostly by ambient lighting. In places where theres alot of light like in a seabase and out in the water during the day, the blurry'ness seems to be worse than in the water during the night where the amount of ambient light is less. This is only an observations tho, not hard facts

Reproduction Step:

Open PDA in various regions of the world
Open PDA at day and night to see differences in Lighting
Open PDA inside Cyclops, noticed it doesnt seem to show. Open PDA in cyclops while facing the big window, notice you can see the PDA screen thru the cyclops window outside the cyclops

Heres some screenies:

MP elements without netcode

No, this isn't yet another thread from someone who hasn't discovered sentence structure and correct punctuation yet.

Just me, after playing Dragons Dogma:DA. A game that managed a degree of MP interaction, without any actual text or position code passing between clients. You make your main guy, then you make a "pawn" with the same player-customization system. You manage skills and inventory for both, and the pawn levels with the main (and catches up if needed).

The cool bit is: you can go online to a main server and grab 2 extra pawns to fill out your group. And people can use yours, sending it back with rewards. Extras don't level, so you will replace them regularly.

No actual player-position code goes between clients. Just bot gear, AI-routine tendencies, and a few other numbers. Messages are created by selecting from a list, so you can't send people naughty words. You can send back a shiny object in thanks, though, and it's quite easy to compliment (or criticize) the bot performance, which can be tweaked to choose from various routines. Like a mage who prioritizes healing and teamwork, versus a mage who runs around doing other things. Both are possible to build.

As to how this could apply to SN? Well, people already build bases around the map. Bases might then be uploaded (manually? automatically?), truncated (no massive planet-filling bases), and partially/fully converted to destroyed set pieces. Then people could download bases from the server (automatically? manually?) and walk around the surviving pieces.

So you might go on, download, say, 8 "large" bases, with placement set to random. Bases further away from safe shallows might be given automatic higher priority, as most people probably build near there. Then the game creates them at their positions, with some sort of reward system for finding and exploring them.

There's a lot of blanks to fill in here, plus a server has to be maintained (DDDA generates random pawns in offline mode, they're horrible), but the upshot is, it doesn't require realtime netcode. At worst, it bloats save files, plus requires a server.

Defending the Devs on Multiplayer

$

I might be getting in to some controversial territory here but I've seen so much hate toward the developers of Subnautica about this issue that I thought I should help clarify some things so that maybe some people who were confused or frustrated might understand.

Why Multiplayer isn't being added.

I'm going to start with getting something off my chest: Yes, as with most other people on the Subnautica community, I was sad and maybe a bit frustrated when the final say on Subnautica multiplayer was announced stating that it would NOT be added in. Personally, I believe that Multiplayer increases a game's replay-ability and encourages those with siblings or close friends to purchase the game and can increase the enjoyment level as well.

HOWEVER,

After doing research and reading the dev posts that address the issue of multiplayer, I have come to realize some key facts that maybe some of you have not understood or known.

1. - Whether it looks like it on the outside or not, Subnautica IS, to some extent, a 'horror' game, but instead of blood, guts, ghosts, and demons, Subnautica preys on a humans natural fear of the ocean. Sure, you might not necessarily be afraid of the ocean itself (Thalassophobia), but every human has a natural fear of the unknown (Xenophobia) which the ocean causes due to its depth, size, and darkness. When you jump into an alien ocean and you look down and you cant see but maybe 5 yards below you and you have no idea how deep it goes and then you start to wonder what sort of creatures lurk just out of sight in the dark blue depths, any person would be afraid and that's the genius behind Subnautica. If you play a horror game with the lights on and a good friend sitting right next to you talking to you and helping you play, you might get startled a few times, but the full impact of the game would never be fully realized for as long as you are comforted by your friend. In the same way, if Subnautica had multiplayer, a Reaper leviathan wouldn't have the same effect if you're swimming right next to some one. Being completely alone, entirely isolated in an ocean filled with dangerous creatures at every turn is why the game is scary, and with multiplayer, a good portion of that effect would be lost. Not to mention the fact that multiplayer would probably cause some severe balancing issues.

2. - Most games that have multiplayer, started developing the multiplayer aspect of the game early on. With Subnautica, the devs held off on it because they wanted to flesh out the story and game mechanics first before they considered it. Multiplayer had always been in the back of their minds, but they wanted to satisfy the single-player experience first which if fully understandable. However, by the time multiplayer was starting to be fully considered, the devs realized that sadly, they had come too far in the game to add multiplayer. They had developed the game to a point where adding it would take years. You need to understand what goes into adding multiplayer to a game. How do players start in the world? How do we persist information about their progress? How do we deliver updates to players? How do we service thousands of users? How do we address the lag issue? How do we balance the game for more than one player? etc. These are just a few of the many questions that have to be answered before a team can EVEN BEGIN multiplayer development. Multiplayer isn't just difficult in terms of development either, it drastically increases cost too. Buying and maintaining servers and making sure every player sees exactly what the other sees, hiring a team to work on developing multiplayer, and hiring a team for just plain server maintenance. Steam as a platform helps with a few of these issues, but the game server code is a whole other book itself. A typical rule of thumb I read on one of the articles I did research on says that any multiplayer component typically doubles the development time of a game. Basically what I'm saying and what I've gathered from other sources is that multiplayer takes time, effort, and money and the Subnautica dev team is already pouring their hearts into the development of singleplayer. No, they aren't lazy or whatever else you want to label them, they just understand better than gamers that there is A WHOLE HECK OF A LOT that goes on behind the scenes to create things like multiplayer.

So yes, there are reasons, very VALID reasons why Subnautica won't be getting multiplayer. It might be disappointing but the reasons behind the decision makes sense. Subnautica is, and will continue to be, a great, unique, and enjoyable game with its story, visuals, and mechanics. There are plenty of singleplayer games out there that are successful, popular, and fun to play. Don't let one decision ruin this game for you.

So commend the devs for all the hard work they're doing on single-player Subnautica and enjoy the game for what it is!

I hope I was helpful in clarifying the story behind the Multiplayer dispute. I'm sure there are plenty of other reasons I may not have covered that the devs have for not implementing multiplayer, but these are just the ones I have read about and that seem the most obvious to me.

Please leave CONSTRUCTIVE comments. I don't want this post to become a giant argument and get closed. This is simply here for clarification.

Thank-you for your time,
-ThunderShock

The same washed out pda bug many of us reported back in the Bones update is still present.

To replicate build a seamoth, then dock it in either the cyclops or moon pool, then after you exit the seamoth open your pda.

Any ETA on when this will be finally get fixed? It's something of a show stopper when you can't easily see your inventory.

Subnautica World War II

It has been some time since the War of the Five Fish. Some parties lost Power, and some others grew with it. One indisputable fact is that now, the only thing that exists are not parties, but heavily militarized factions, willing to fight with everything they have on defense of their interests.

New players also arrived. From the depths of the Aurora vessel, came the creatures that dominated the Foreign Migration Minority Advocates, turning it into a ruthless powerhouse that answers to none but itself. And more powerful beings also arised.
During the normal internal relations of the factions of 4546B, be they harmonious or agressive, they unleashed something far dangerous than anyone could conceive.

PaterAestus, the long forgotten Emperor, has made his appearance public again, enforcing na agenda of complete dominination over the whole world. He already started enforcing his will, not only using the creatures from the deep, of the Inactive Lava Zone, but also disgusting mutants who evolved from the Carar bacterium, beings only known by the name of Kharaa. Only two choices are available with him: obey or die.
This new war is not about territories, neither politics or resources. This new War, waged between the Aboveworld Alliance against the Underworld Lava Empire, is for something much simpler, but far more complex and infinitely more valuable: the right to exist.

If the Aboveworld Alliance loses, then everything they built until now shall be forfeit, for there will be no other harmony besides the obedience to Pater.

This is a war for survival. This is the war that is the 4546B World War II, and their terrifying battles and clashing forces shall be recorded under one name:

The Lava War

Factions backstories:

The Devorandum Confederacy, @ResolutionBlaze
The National Violence Party was formed soon after the crash of the Dasagi, though under a different name, originally known as the Oceanic Congregation of Predators. The OCP was founded by one only called “Bonecruncher”, a Reaper Leviathan formerly a part of a tribe found in The Dropoff.

Bonecruncher founded the OCP as a response to regulation on predator behavior in the Reef with previous administrations and the lack of efforts to remove human technology from the sea. Sandsharks were being banished from the Grassy Plateaus to the Dunes, and prey population was exploding. Bonecruncher was able to push back these policies based on the predator vote, but otherwise garnished no publicity for a time.

Bonecruncher was seen as a laughing stock in the political field, as many criticised his overly naturalist ideas as “barbaric” and “uncivilized” although Bonecruncher was able to gain the support of all Reaper Leviathans in the Dunes and other areas. Other parties jokingly called them the, “National Violence Party” and despite the name originally being a mockery, the Reapers took it on as their official name, wearing the former insult as a sign of pride and a testament to their philosophy.

When the Aurora crashed, Bonecruncher decided enough was enough. Bonecruncher ran for the position of President, and was successful in beating back any other potential party for the position. The NVP were unsuccessful in the attempt, however, President Peeper taking the stage as President. The NVP then moved on to the Gubernatorial Election in the Grand Reef. Although the NVP had a slow start, they received quick support toward the end of the election, shooting up into the third most popular party for the position, beat out by their rivals, the ECPA, whom hold the complete opposite philosophy to the NVP. Though in the process the NVP was able to absorb the Greater Ambush Association into their grasp, gaining the Sandshark vote and support.

Bonecruncher has since been active in politics, criticising policies that involved establishing any sort of structural government whose duty wasn’t to maintain equilibrium, and pushing back policies that hindered predator behavior and hunting.

Soon came the uprising of the Shoal, whom soon became the NVP’s greatest enemy. The Shoal attempted to take absolute control, and thus the NVP transformed into a military group named “The Devorandum Confederacy” which consisted of all medium to large sized predators that would wish to join it. Stalkers, formerly having little political influence, joined the Confederacy with the Sandsharks, thereby tripling the party’s numbers and influence.

The Confederacy pushed The Shoal back with active assaults against their prime positions, leading to the Shoal’s surrender soon after a rush from the SAHP marking the killing blow. Although Bonecruncher wanted retribution for The Shoal’s actions, The Reef Conglomerate were against them 2 to 1. In order to maintain peace, Bonecruncher backed down and allowed The Shoal to live.

Grand Communist Shoal Conglomerate (GCSC), @phantomfinch
Amidst the ashes of a long forgotten civilisation, another formed in the shape of.... fish?

Soon their debating and pondering formed into a political debate that rocked the planet, then came the second election, the one to change the ocean forever.

War sparked out between two party's, a nomadic Luddite from the south and a devil fishly hamson general from the north, soon the brutish warrior from the east joined the nomad, leaving the general outnumbered. As the sea grew cold a miracle srung up, peace on the southern front, a biter and a crabsquid exchanging presents. This was short lived when the mysterious and normally isolated Mesmers from the northeast invaded the generals land and crippled his nation. After the infighting a traveler, far from his home claimed that the seas were infected, he wished to develop a cure but took from the generals land. This created a rivalry between the two factions that cost the General his entire species.

Peace was brought but not without its casualties, the president of the land was injured during the final battle and died in care, the power gap was then challenged once again by the nations, but was taken from them by the reclusive druids. An arms race developed with the general retaking the gun and blowing up a thermal power plant under the planets surface to stop a genoside. This stoped the genoside but created something much worse. Another empire raised from the carcass of a starship. Men made from metal stormed through the generals land and took his prize possession, they release a artificial virus designed to turn his people against him, biter on biter, family on family, comrades on comrades. Luckily for the General he was in a sterile environment and away from the genoside. He escaped through a Teleporter but [READINGERROR]

During this a unknown enemy rose from the depths. It's ruler, a emperor claimed the above world as his property and sentenced its inhabitants to death. The emperor gained the attention of a traitors battalion from the nomads empire and the leaderless snakes from the fungi forest.

And that is where this story ends traveler, but the war for the depth begins.

The Conglomerate, N-LAP @Jamezorg
In the depths of the Grand Reef, the Crabsquid swam. Metal had rained from the sky not once but twice in the past twenty years, causing nothing but terror and despair all across the ocean. It was apparent technology wasn't to be trusted, as the Precursors one thousand years before had died, the newcomers had died and the survivor was dying.

In the deepest, darkest regions of the known seas, Governor Sheldon Cridet searched for fellow Crabsquid to join his party. The next election was coming soon, and if he didn't win the ocean would continue to be tainted by technology. He asked his cousins, brothers, friends and all family but none seemed to join.

Soon enough, Sheldon found fifty willing participants. Each of them joined his in his quest, and a Crabsquid named Jerron Shell became his right-hand-man.

The Crabsquid were once allied with the Reapers, adopting many of their social traits. The Grand Reef was governed by a Crasbquid known as Gogunad. Gogunad was a ruthless dictator, afraid of nothing, and would do anything to please the Reapers.

Sheldon stirred a rebellion. In the Deep Grand Reef they struck first. They destroyed the base found down there, and hung banners of what they called N-LAP over its wreckage. The entirety of the Deep Grand Reef became N-LAP controlled, and the Grand Reef was still ruled by Gogunad. Sheldon sent his soldiers swimming up into the Grand Reef. They won fights all across the biome, and eventually they reached Gogunad near the island above.

Before the rebellion was done, Sheldon was murdered by Jerron, his right-hand-man, an agent of Gogunad. Jerron was captured by N-LAP, as was Gogunad, and they were executed for crimes against fishkind. This left the Grand Reef leaderless; N-LAP was still searching for a leader, so they couldn't rule just yet.

A Grand Reef election would have to take place.

Foreign Migration Minority Advocates, FMMA @Casual_Player
Formed from the mechanical auxiliaries of James Anderson, a stranded human who came right on the middle of the first Election, and was a testimony to the War of the Five Fish, he was killed by the further destruction of the Aurora Mining Vessel, which he was hiding during the war, due to the explosion of the Precursor Thermal Plant by the GSCS, leading to a new leakage of radiation on a previously safe area. The AI was coordinated by an amalgamation from the PDA, the Aurora Mining Vessel's AI and Anderson's own biology, only identified as Enhanced Assistant System unit.

The nicknamed "EASY" unit began building more machines, to further help the research of the Carar bacterium, now it's prime directive, and looking for ways to dismantle the husk of Aurora. But not for long, for the amalgamation's true identity finally came forward: Aurora, the solidified personality of the amalgamation. Driven by grief and revenge for the death of James Anderson, Aurora secretely started pumping was has been known as the Nanobot superweapon, while taking possession of the Precursor Array from the fins of the GSCS, later fortifying it, and estabilishing a new base on the crash site, in addition to building more beings such as herself, with the example of Dr. Himmelreich, science leader of the FMMA, later the main head of the James Anderson Institute for Medical and Science Research, on the denominated Operation Ascendance.

Operation Transcendence was launched leading to the elimitation of 95% of biter population by the Nanobot superweapon, with hope to murder phantomfinch, the leader of GSCS, whom escaped the slaughter. Taking control of the Foreign Minorities Migration Advocates, FMMA, Aurora transformed it on a highly advanced and militarized faction of 4546B, a power which quickly became as feared as it was respected. Aurora then created an expedition force to search for the cure on the Precursor bases on the Inactive and Active Lava Zones, taking as an escort Liternaut HAL, which was deployed by the entrance to the caves. But, things went sour.

The Expedition was surrounded and ambushed by an unknown enemy. Aurora went missing deep on the caves. The new enemy was revealed to be the Emperor, an ancient being with vast power, capable of controlling the ones mutated by the Carar, who seeks dominion over all.

An action must be taken. The FMMA High Council, current rulling body of the FMMA, allied with the other factions of the "Aboveworld", ordered a large scale invasion on the caves intending to eliminate the Emperor and his army, also as taking the cure for mass production. They have the belief that their leader, Aurora, is still in there, but they are realist about their situation - that on this war, even their powerful and ruthless leader is secondary, and the priority is to eliminate the one who will enslave all. The Steel Crusade has begun.

Public Health/Safety Party, PH/SP @Enderguy059
Synthesized from the Agent Fabrication Facility, The Warpers were created from the fusion of a native species of 4546-B and Precursor technology. Instrumental in the eradication and containment of the first Carar outbreak, they observed and patrolled the planet's waters in case of another outbreak.

When the native wildlife began to foray into politics, The Warpers founded the Health and Safety Party as a means to dutifully serve the public whilst upholding the wellbeing of every organism.

However, as machines of pure logic, they were woefully underprepared when it came to the impending civil war. They initially sided with the GCSC, believing that their doctrine could potentially ensure a peaceful society. However, with the war fast approaching, the PH/SP found themselves mysteriously leaderless. Phantomfinch, head of the GCSC, assumed command of all field agents to serve in the civil war, wastefully throwing agents to the hounds whilst capturing desecrating and/or destroying the Precursor installations that Agents had sworn to protect.

However, as the War was coming to a close, the Agent Prime returned to all of his kind fighting in a destructive warzone, half of them having been indoctrinated to fight and serve for communist rule. The Agent Prime made a decision to cease all friendly relations with the GCSC and gather whatever many Warpers as he could to ensure their safety.

In the wake of the aftermath, the PH/SP endeavored to return to their former glory. During the reconstruction of the Precursor Thermal Plant, Prime had recovered the Executive Protocol Code which, when broadcasted, would place all Warpers under his command and decimating a powerful chunk of the Communist Army and placing the Agent Fabrication Facility under Warper control.

They now face a unique second outbreak of The Carar spearheaded by Pater Aestus, the mysterious and cunning leader of the Lava Empire.

Enviromental Protection and Cooperation Agency, EPCA President @Ralij – commander @the_mariner
The EPCA was born from ideals, nice thoughts that in times of peace were simply that. The Great Wars that have devastated the region forced the EPCA to mature and the dire consequences of mass extinction in battle scarred forced them to act. Now the organization finds itself at a crossroads between its ideals of peace and in the realities of standing guard on the battlefield. There is no shortage of lament on the actions that are being forced upon them, but diplomacy has failed them.

In the wars past a passive attitude reigned from the leadership and the result was bloodshed and power hungry leaders bent on domination. This war, under new leadership of the winner of the elections, the now President @Ralij, and a rising officer corps like the task forces Phalanx and Bastion, under command of @the_mariner, has seen the dedication of the EPCA to defending those under its wing. The keywords of cooperation and conservation find themselves joined by duty and honor.

Ideally, the EPCA would like for peace to return and for the Lava Empire to return as a neighbor with a period of normalization, but realize the impracticality of this arrangement with the current leadership of the Lava Empire. Failing peace through diplomacy the EPCA is forced to rely on peace through arms. If the Lava Empire falls its territory will be annexed and its people will be liberated from the tyrant. After a period of rebuilding and normalization the people of the Lava Empire will become citizens and will be represented in the Senate of the aboveworld, giving them a voice and freedoms they've never had.

Faction Powers

DC: Gets to add 3 to any attacking dice role value (because VIOLENCE!) (oh, and reapers count as 3 armies)

GCSC: Gets to add 1/2 the number of armies they have to any attacking dice role value (because strength in numbers, comrades!) <--example: Attacks with 4 armies, gets to add 2 to attacking role value<br>
PH/SP: Get to attack or move 1 biome over from any adjacent biomes (they can teleport through 1 biome when attacking or moving)

Conglomerate: Get to negate 1 unit/army (of choice) from any attacking/defending force (Mesmers have hypnosis, Crabsquids have EMP)

UCR = have a 1/10 summon the ancient god Snekzilla. If this happens, then they automatically win the engagement.

FMMA = “It’s Drilling Time!” = re-roll the dice with the smaller value. The new dice will be valid if the new value surpass the adversary's dice value, being otherwise ignored.

EPCA= "Shell Shock" = The will of the reefbacks is unbreakable, as is their armor. EPCA gains a +3 to any defending dice role value.

Sea Emperor = "Hail to the King Baby", one unit from na enemy faction is converted into a unheard/ khara. Can only be used one a turn.

Crabsquid (Lava Empire): Ion Suicide (If an area that was controlled by the 4th division is taken over, there is the chance to detonate a Crabsquid in a nearby area, killing one unit of the attacking force. This obviously kills the Crabsquid who explodes. Can only be used once per turn.)

Lava Larva: Energy Drain ( -1 to any FMMA attacks on an area with a Lava Larva. This is not cumulative)
Mesmer: Entrancing call ( A Mesmer can move one unit from an adjacent area to help defend or attack. The Mesmer-ized unit then has -1 to all attacks for 3 turns after this power is used.)

Ampeel (Lava Empire): Discharge ( An attack that kills all in the enemies in an adjacent area. By using this power, any troops that were with the Ampeel are also killed. Only the Ampeel survives. Can only be used once per turn. Does not affect Reapers, Reefbacks, or Cyclops)

Boneshark (Lava Empire): Marrow Drain ( Boneshark attacks have a +2 attack by giving up a -1 defense for 1 turn.)

Lava Lizards and Sea Dragons act the same as Stalkers/Reapers, but it takes 4 Lava Lizards to make a Sea Dragon.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Army values
1 Reaper = 3 armies
1 Sea Dragon = 4 armies (4 Lava Lizards). Obligatory to have 4 Lava Lizards on a same territory (without counting the occupation army) before exchanging them to Sea Dragons. This unit can't be placed as a normal reinforcement.
1 Cyclops = 3 armies
1 Emperor = 15 armies. Unique. Can’t be exchanged by the equivalent armies. 1 army is equal to 1 life point, being irreplaceable. If 15 defeats
during the course of the game, the Emperor is defeated and the game ends.

Final Rules

Territory Sharing
The territories will be shared by allied factions. All the factions will still receive their reinforcements at the start of the turn according to their occupied territories, be they shared or not.If na opposing faction attacks and conquers a shared territory, that territory is lost to everyone sharing it, until it is retaken. An occupied territory by one faction can be also occupied by another faction, as long as the second faction places na occuping army on said territory. There are no limit of factions that can share the same territory. The armies of the Empire count as a single faction, besides some armies of this faction having powers of their own.

Combined Attack
If on agreement, players sharing the same territory can attack a single territory at the same time. This action counts as a turn for all of the involved allied factions. Upon execution the Combined Attacks, the players involved on this action must wait for their next turns to come.

Dunes bottomless pit?

While exploring the Dunes with my Cyclops the other day, looking for silver bulk resources and trying to keep the bloody leviathans from mating with my sub (or whatever they were doing to it), I came across a very sharp drop in the landscape about 1.2km due west from Lifepod 5. Naturally, started a descent in the Cyclops to see what was down there.

It turned out this terrain feature was more of a conical depression that made navigating the Cyclops deeper tricky, but I eventually got to 1475m and found the floor. Or not, as it turned out; the pit kept going deeper, but 1) wide-beam wasn't going to fit in the hole, and 2) even if he did, he'd fold. So, my thalassophobia screaming "NO!" at the top of its lungs, I got out and dropped a few flares down the hole.

They vanished into the deep. I'm not going down there by my own self, that's for sure. So far as I can tell, it's a bottomless pit.

What did I find? Is this the Dunes sinkhole I've heard about? A new, unnamed terrain feature? A secret ending where if I swim all the way down I pop out in a swimming pool in Secaucus, NJ, and no longer need rescue?

If anyone knows, I'd really appreciate being let in on it because I gotta tell you...it scares me, frankly.
