Freezing then crashing Subnautica

$

When I first started playing Subnautica everything was fine... Then I got the seaglide and the game would crash at random without warning. I would just be strolling around then suddenly everything freezes, the audio keeps playing and then after a bit it would crash. It was bearable. Now I have the seamoth and I'll be going full speed but then it freezes with the audio still playing, and then the game crashes and says this:
Oops!

The game crashed.
The crash report folder named "2017-01-07_102850" next to game
executable.
It would be great if you'd send it to the developer of the game!

What can I do to stop this from happening?

Edit: Here is part of the crash file: Unity Player [version: Unity 5.4.3f1_01f4c123905a]

[BUG]CAN'T GET OUT OF ROOM - BULKHEAD DOESN'T OPEN[43227 JAN 17]

Hi

I created a bulkhead leading into my multipurpose room. It opened fine. I went in and shut the door behind me. Then I went to leave. I approached the door, the tool tip popped up to left click to open. I left clicked. Nothing happened. The door won't open. I am stuck in the room. The only way out is to deconstruct the bulkhead.

Shared.Message() ?

I'm trying to get the server to print something to a client's console. I found Shared.Message() in ConsoleCommands_Server so that looked hopeful to me but now in testing I cannot seem to get the existing list_players command to print anything. Is that supposed to work? Maybe a game needs to be in progress or other players exist or something?

More importantly How can I get the server to print something to the client's console?

Suggestions - balance, and miscelaneous suggestions (minimal spoilers)

I absolutely love this game. I'd like to talk balance a bit, because it feels off for me. I'm playing in the mode with no eating, but with power requirements and the balance feels off for me. I was progressing at what felt like a normal and logical pace for about 15 hours or so. Around the time I got the cyclops, I felt the need to go and find the power cell charger. I've been searching for it and I simply cannot find it. I had found about 4-5 power cells so in addition to the 6 that come with the cyclops I am ok for now. It is severely limiting how much I want to use the cyclops though. I've struggled finding the PC charger, even though I've been to the grand reef, blood kelp and mushroom forest wrecks. Also, the modification station seems like it is essential a lot earlier than I ended up finding it. Although I have not found the PC charger, I have the nuclear reactor and alien containment BPs, things that would seem to be way more advanced than a simple power cell charger that I could probably pick up at the universe's equivalent to Walmart or something.

Biomes - it would be nice to have some sort of indicator as to which biome I am currently in. My seamoth is rated to 500M, I've been to the sea-treaders path but cannot find a wreck there to save my life. I notice that at some point I found an insanely deep cliff system went down to 499M, still nothing but black, and just a giant wall. I wasn't sure if the game is just not finished or if there is something down there? Still, some indication that I'm in location X, at any given point would be nice. Further, an indication that I'm in "the void" as many of the maps indicate would also be helpful. Even if this unlocked as a feature in one of the lost bases, or a pda would be great.

HUD - could we have a conversion to feet as an option? I know I live in the backwards part of the world, but 30M doesn't mean anything to me, I have no sense scale for that.

Hardcore survival - As a certified advanced scuba diver, I can tell you that the time to surface from 30M in game feels a lot more like the time to surface from 30 feet in real life, assuming you were ascending fast for some reason. 98 feet (30 meters) gets covered in just a few seconds with 2 tanks. You guys got so much right, but depth isn't one of them. Ignoring depth, the draw distance and the way light looks as you descend is so freaking perfect. I was so psyched when I dropped into some area just off the aurora down deep and watched as the clear blue went to deep blue, and the surface was gone and the light was scattered. It reminded me of my first ever wreck dive and I literally got goosebumps! The way the bottom just started to come into view was so lifelike - If the devs don't dive, they did a galdarn magnificent job recreating something that lifelike! If they do - kudos for them for hitting it out of the park.

That being said, I read somewhere that considerations for pressure are being considered (not sure if true). I want to say - please don't do this, unless you are going to try and make an honest to god scuba sim. If you have a suit that allows a diver to dive to the absurd depth of 1637 feet (an impossibility in anything less than the modern equivalent of a prawn suit) you already have plausible deniability that things like safety stops (where you stop at a shallow depth or several to let built up nitrogen gas out of your system) aren't necessary. If you do, o2 consumption has to slow way way down and it would force a total change to the game. Implementing this with the speed that you use o2, and the insane depths that you go to would make the game artificially hard to the point of feeling petty.

I'd also love it if the camera options in the cyclops could be displayed sort of overlayed over the bridge dome. I'd love to at a glance be able to see what's around me. I'd think by whatever year, they'd have features you can find on modern day luxury cars (blind spot cameras - come on, that exists now).

Finally, I don't think there is a submarine today that doesn't come with at least two things. First a depth finder, and 2nd sonar. I should know how deep the water I am in is without going down. Making these optional and or an upgrade feels cheap to me. These are basic features on subs made in this century, I'd think a race of humans that can travel the galaxy would have a slightly better minimum trim on their subs.

I love this game and even if none of these are ever considered I'm still going to play the crap out of this when it hits 1.0 and beyond. Great job!

My take on how subnautica multiplayer could be implemented.

$

I have an idea for how the game devs could implement multiplayer without the community backlash of "oh but i really like the experience that you are isolated, it makes it more immersive" or something along the lines of that.
The game development team for Subnautica could implement multiplayer as an unlock-able feature. What I mean by this is, when the story mode is finished and fully functional (you can get cured, cure the planet, get rescued, ect) then after you get rescued a cut-scene plays explaining that there is rare, mysterious alien structures and that it would be a good idea to go back to the ocean planet to study the unique fauna and flora. With this kind of system in place you would be able to have both single player and co-op with i would say up to 6 people. I say 6 because about the cyclops (i'm assuming that the cyclops will be the biggest underwater vehicle at full release) there is a PDA that says something about 6 people and the cyclops. I also believe that 6 people would just make a really good experience because most people would only really play in groups of around 3-4 at a time in most games and having room for 6 would just make the game seem more realistic in the way that if a single survivor came back from such a planet, and they had the intention of sending people back to search the place for secrets, they would not send a team of 2 people, they would send about 6 (this is just to backup my idea of a 6 person party, just pulling reasons out of my ass at this point :D)
I think that this is a really good way of implementing multiplayer in a fantastic game that could only be made better with friends.
I would also like to acknowledge how there WILL be flaws in my idea of how multiplayer could be put in a game, me not being a game dev or anything, i have no idea how complex this would be. But i am simply posting my idea on this site.
Thank you for reading this (if you made it all the way through) and i appreciate any feedback on this topic, i enjoy talking about such things as whatever this is

(XB1) Power Lines and Multiple Bases

$

I currently operate out of a base in the Shallows right by the pod. Moon pool, greenhouse, scanner room, the whole nine yards. I also have the three story aquarium building right next door. The five solar panels and single bioreactor at the main building do alright, but power can get pretty low if and when I'm running my two water filtering units. I have the schematics for both the thermal generator and power transmitter and the big vent between the kelp forests is a stone's throw from my base. I got two generators set up as close to the vent as I could place them and ran a daisy chain of transmitters uphill towards the base, eight or so.

The aquarium is on the doorstep of my HQ and my power line, going straight from the thermal vent, led me right to the aquarium. I tried placing a transmitter on a pillar, intending to run the power line up and around the aquarium since I don't really need the power there. Though clearly inside the range at which it can transmit, the power will not transfer to a transmitter on the cliff above the aquarium. I swear it's close enough.

So I'm thinking the problem is that the power is already being directed to the aquarium, so it can't split off towards the main building. I can take a few minutes and rearrange it to go completely around the aquarium, it'll just take longer. I guess it's less of a question than it is a PSA: if you've got two separate buildings really close to one another, power transmitters will only direct to one.

Player pressure limitations

$

The player should be limited on how far they can go down. IRL man can not get to the bottom of the ocean with just our body's we would be crushed to death same with O2 tanks in the normal difficulty the player should just take damage when below the safe depth while in hardcore mode they risk rupturing there suits and O2 tanks. ( below is a List of gear needed for the depths and build cost)

0-200 scuba suit, O2 tank
Scuba suit: none ; O2 tank: titanium×2, glass

0-400 dive suit, reabreather, O2 tank
Dive suit: fiber mesh×2, titanium×2 ; reabreather: wiring kit, fiber mesh ; O2 tank: titanium×2, glass

0-600 reinforced dive suit, reinforced rebreather, reinforce O2 tank
Suit: synthetic fiber×2, titanium ingot ; reinforced reabreather: reabreather, synthetic fibers ; reinforced O2 tank: titanium ingot×2, glass×2

0-800 plasteel dive suit, plasteel helmet, plasteel O2 tank
Suit: synthetic fibers×2, plasteel ; helmet: plasteel, enameled glass ; O2 tank: plasteel×2, enameled glass

The rest of the way you are limited to your prawn suit. BTW you should be able to access vehicle storage and torpedo bays from inside the vehicle

Mapping the Inactive Lava Zone!

Rejoice, fellow Subnautica players! For @Casual_Player and I are taking the plunge into the dreaded ILZ to map it once and for all! This has previously never been done before, but with the help of @Casual_Player, we will screenshot the entire ILZ, and with the help of (hopefully) @subnauticambrian's amazing picture editing skills, we will create an accurate map of the ILZ!

No longer are the days blindly exploring the the ILZ and enduring its harsh fauna! Once we are complete with the map, all will be able to use it! (unless it becomes outdated, in the which, dang)

Any and all help is appreciated with this endeavor. We need someone willing to screenshot the ILZ, directly straight from the Aurora opening entrance. Take your chance to enroll in this once in a lifetime opportunity to become a hero to future Subnautica players!

Screenshots will be posted as soon as we are complete.
Yes, I'm trying to sell this hard, we desperately need help. The ILZ is huge, not going to lie.

Crash when going/coming from mountain island (maybe changing biome?)

Hi,

I've been playing subnautica for some time. Now i'm going to the mountain island but, in the middle of the way, the game crashes over and over again when i try to move. It is imposible to move even some metters. I guess that is something over there, because I played the game for a month and i reach the other island and move fast over the map without problem, I even come in the Aurora.

I tried with all the game in low textures etc, launching it with -force-d3d9 but anything works. I also verified cache.

Find attached the log of my report: http://pastebin.com/atFy25TA

Please, could anybody help me or should I forget the game, because I really don't know what else can I do.

Thanks

An idea to sort of save the creature concept arts

Why not have those creature concept arts as skeletons? Particularly the large ones, they work well as bones.

latest?cb=20150412223359

This one might be really interesting to be found in somewhere like the dunes, there's more than enough space for it :p

latest?cb=20160309142507

A giant shell would be much appreciated, particularly if creatures have found refuge under it or something.

latest?cb=20170108023110

Same as above, I think massive shells would work really well.

I'm even thinking if the Reefbacks and Sea Treaders could have some skeletons too, that'd be cool. Not the Rock Puncher tho, I'd definitely like it alive. I'm not sure for the Phantom Leviathan tho...

What do you think?

[Bug] Wrecks Stacking in the same location! Version: [42313]

Subnautica Version - Build 42313
Description:

Reproduction steps: I think if you save the game a new wreck will spawn in the same location a wreck is already in. This way I get up to 7 doors in the same location.
The frame drops are huge when moving around and when looking at any wreck thats bugged I get 15 fps.
This bug persists since the last 5 or 6 builds.
THIS IS GAMEBREAKING FOR A LOT OF PEOPLE :(
pls fix.
Its not just doors everything in the wreck will be in the same location multiple times. (fragments, walls and so on)

[CRASH] Game crashes within minutes, randomly [42313 Dec-2016]

Firstly, let me say this game is just awesome. I turn my lights off and play and just get the crap scared out of me in the dark depths of the ocean. I love it.

Unfortunately, after a day of fun play, the game has started crashing randomly. I would be very appreciative if you could help me figure out what is wrong and get it working again.

I was able to play for 6 hours yesterday without any issues on the highest graphics settings, native screen resolution 2560x1600 full screen. After a few hours break for some meetings, I can back and fired it up again and it started crashing. Initially, I could play for a little while before crashes. But now they seem to happen within a minute or two.

Steps I've Taken to Troubleshoot
  • I've reduced my graphics settings to Minimum and also tried Recommended
  • After more crashes I decreased the resolution to 1920x1200 in Windowed mode
  • Followed the steps outlined in this Troubleshooting Guide on Steam
  • Verified the Integrity of Game Cache in Steam - it verified
  • Quit Subnautica and Restarted it
  • Restarted the PC
  • Decreased my memory frequency in my BIOS (no, it was NOT overclocked, but I decreased it from 3000MHz to 2666MHz)
  • Increased the fan profile on my CPU and GPU to make the fans start cooling sooner and keep RPM higher

Result from my Troubleshooting
Game is still crashing.
