Is the Cute Fish a baby Sea Emperor or Sea Dragon?

I saw that in the Subnautica Roadmap, there's plans to have baby Sea Emperors/Dragons.
I was looking at the Cute Fish, and saw some similarities with it and the Sea Dragon. Look for yourself.

Subnautica is such an open world, so many things to discover - I just can't see how the concept of "end game" could even be considered. Hopefully, after release there will ongoing expansion of biomes, refinement of tools etc. This is one game I wouldn't mind paying for (good) DLC packages.

Flying around in the Seamoth is such a satisfying experience - all that might be needed is to have some re-spawning of things to find and places to explore. Perhaps a volcanic eruption could cause a major upheaval of the seascape - and volia! More things to explore....

Just can't see where "end" fits into this world...

Mountain Island should be furthur away

I think Mountain Island is too close from the spawn.

Firstly this can spoil too much on early game, secondly the island makes furthur exploration around mountain biomes underwater a bit useless. (=too early highlight)

It is kinda bad because underwater mountain biome itself is truely awesome.

Why not then move the Mountain Island furthur to the north east?

Though it was not advertised in the latest video for the Stable Build, it was a nice surprise to find an all new interior in the Aurora. Still not the treasure torve I've alway wanted it to be, but still greatly improved over the first iteration. Thanks Devs!

On a related note, I've found the Door Code for the Loading Bay, but after progressing through the Living Quarters, I've found 2 doors that I cannot find codes too. Anyone have a hint for me? Place I might look, or even the codes themselves? Please use Spoiler tags, and thanks in advance.

Since coordinates are part of the game, how about displaying them just below the compass (the coordinates display could be an upgrade to the compass)?

With bases becoming things that take more time to acquire, it would be useful if the option to sit could come earlier by making the two seats in the lifepod functional. It only makes sense anyway; it's the second action you even see the character perform when you start up a new game.

Nyx is a facility located deep in the heart of an alien jungle. It's humid, and hostile, and dark in the canopies of the surrounding foliage, an environment mirrored within the facility itself.

PRAWN Fragment errors

Was scanning fragments in the grassy plateau and uncovered a whole bunch of PRAWN fragments. The PRAWN Suit fragments unlocked a second PRAWN in my PDA that requires 15 fragments to unlock. I've already got 2 fragments from the Aurora and need a third (the other suits in the room were not scannable). The PRAWN claw and drill arms in said wreck could each be scanned twice, which I think is also a bug.

[BUG] Mobile Vehicle Bay probs

My first game was broke by the Sept update, so I've created a close copy with cheats: nocost & unlock to get the blueprints I already had.

I crafted a Mobile Vehicle Bay via "nocost", and when it was released it floated to the surface, but did not expand. I can pick it up and put it in storage - nothing else.

Next I crafted one 'properly' (no cheats) by using all ingredients in the blueprint. This unit floats to the surface, deploys, but won't let me get on to use it! The only option I get when approaching it is to pick it up.

Subnautica.exe caused an Access Violation (0xc0000005) in module Subnautica.exe at 0033:00000000.

Base building ideas

Since the farming update, the base building aspect of this game has really taken off. I'm really enjoying it! I'm not sure what's planned for the "polish" and "quality of life" stuff prior to 1.0, so maybe some of these suggestions are already being considered.

So here are some little ideas that would give me more creative control over my base, and add a bit of functionality to some of the decorative objects.

1) The beds are neat. Now, maybe make them do something useful! My suggestions - let the player skip the night time, and heal a bit (though not as much as a medkit). I find the night time too dark to get anything done, even with the various light sources in the game, so I'd love a way to just skip it when given the chance.

2) Turn the desk into a note-taking device with the notes stored in the saved game. When the player interacts with it, give them a text field they can type into for making simple to-do lists and such. Not everybody would bother using it, but I definitely would!

3) Consider adding a drawer to the desk with a small storage area - nowhere near as big as a locker, but enough to store about as much as you can imagine fitting in a desk drawer.

4) Consider adding a compost. For placing things like old/bad food and rotten samples. It actually makes compost which becomes an ingredient necessary for making planters and grow beds.

5) Add a fridge/freezer for prolonging food life, and think more about the "meals" idea I see on Trello. All good things.

6) Consider making plants grow more slowly (or at least the fruit and potatoes on them). Right now they are sort of OP... once you discover the floating island, that's it. No more food survival concerns. Plants should eventually allow you to get to that point, but only after some hard work.

7) Add a new type of small indoor storage item. Like a small chest to put on the floor, at the foot of the bed, etc. With perhaps half as much storage as a wall locker.

8) Allow the light color to be changed for rooms. It would be nice to have rooms with mood lighting instead of the sterile white. Consider adding a light switch object, as well, that can be crafted onto a wall. Perhaps this is not only for turning lights on/off, but also changing their color.

9) Consider making room lights turn on automatically when the player enters a room, then turn off if the player hasn't been insider for a few moments (can be an option on the above mentioned light switch). I was playing Alien: Isolation the other day, and this effect really adds a lot of atmosphere to an area. Walking into a room and having the lights flicker on with a bit of a buzz... it's really quite enjoyable.

10) Area rugs, more posters to put on walls (I love the ones you have so far), and just more decorative objects in general. I'm loving that stuff.

11) So I found a stuffy in the Aurora. Not sure if there are more but this could be a good start for some sort of collectible items, possibly even tied to an achievement. My thoughts on this front is that the player might be able to craft more after scanning critters in the world, with the end product resembling a somewhat derpy stuffed version of whatever... I'm sure the reaper leviathan would look particularly hilarious immortalized in kelp fibers.

12) Consider adding a "battery bank" module that increases the total power storage capacity of a base by some moderate amount, but doesn't change the rate at which power is accumulated. I have a base near the surface with a bunch of solar panels that fully charge the base fairly quickly, and then sit around for most of the day doing very little, and yet I can lose power at night time. Solar installations normally use batteries to solve this problem (for an example in a game, see rimworld) by storing excess power for later. It would even help, perhaps, for the other generator types that use consumable resources.

13) Consider adding a light switch object, as well, that can be crafted onto a wall. Perhaps this is not only for turning lights on/off, but also changing their color.

14) Consider adding a square room about the same size as a multipurpose room. Basically just a differently shaped multipurpose room for a bit of variety.

15) I've always wonder how the hatch works without flooding the base... given any thought to a proper airlock?

16) I read a PDA entry talking about how it rains all the time on this world. I don't think I've seen it rain ever... is weather on the to-do list? Rain and stormy weather would be pretty good for a game with this setting... they practically go hand in hand.

Modular Torpedoes?

I realized that I used the torpedos like... twice. Grand total.

Chassis:
  • One-shot chassis. Cheap, and expendable.
  • Reusable chassis, the warhead is lost, but torpedo falls to the floor and preserves the other components.
  • Returning chassis. When combined with the directional propulsion, it attempts to return to storage on the firing vehicle after expending warhead or not hitting target. Boomerang torpedo, reloads if it doesn't expend warhead. (Not 100% sure on this one...)

Warhead:
  • Gas/Vortex as vanilla
  • Flashbang flare! A VERY bright light used against fish with massive eyes in the darkest depths would probably be very inconvenient for them eating me... Enemies with eyes flee, Crabsnakes wonder what all the fuss is about.
  • Stasis torpedo because why not. Works like a fully-charged stasis gun shot
  • Grapple module, comes with a cable. Does not consume warhead, reusable in reusable or returning chassis.
  • Light module- hangs in water, provides light for a time over large area, can be retrieved and recharged (2-5% of cell power) and reused
  • Anchor- grapple module, but with a secondary grapple that attempts to anchor itself to terrain. Potentially reusable, but you'll probably NOT head back for it...
  • Kinetic- Zoom. Thump. Ow.

Guidance:
  • None (as now)
  • Homing- target lock
  • Proximity- moves forward slightly and hangs in water, activating on proximity to sharks/crabsquid or larger
  • Camera-guided (100m range? 200m?)
  • Returning module, for returning chassis.

Propulsion:
  • Normal (free)
  • High-speed, more energy cost
  • Directional (required for all guidance and self-guided applications to function correctly), increased energy cost.
  • Teleport- warps from silo to target, VERY useful with homing, significant energy cost.

This gives torpedoes a LOT more potential, while not making them much more violent at all. You can still create loads of torpedoes for the same amount, a Vortex would simply be 1 titanium for warhead/chassis each. All crafts give 3 torpedoes, I guess? Resource requirements would need tweaking.

Also, the Cyclops could really use the ability to make minisub upgrades like the Moonpool. Or at least torpedoes.

Wall Locker Display

A Corridor of Wall Lockers makes for a great warehouse. Editable names are super. NOW - we just need a little 7-segment red LED readout which shows the number of spaces in use! Right in the center of the area above the name.

This could be just an improvement to the design - doesn't warrant the need for an upgrade.

Bigger Submarine Concept - My own 3D model

Hello everyone!

A bit of introduction here : I'm new on the forums but not on the game. Subnautica is one of my favorite game and although i didn't spend too much time on it, i had a super experience playing it! What I enjoyed the most is the exploration thanks to the wonderful places there are, and also the submarines, especially the Cyclops. And for once, a developer team has enough talent to make the vehicle completely playable. And not just making the exterior and the cockpit.
I'm currently a student for game design, and I started to make my own 3D models. Moreover i saw the concept arts for other submarines and particularly the bigger one which looks just fantastic! I know I'm really a beginner in modelling and texturing, but I want to give it a try. Maybe you could give some criticism and tips for this challenge! :tongue:

Those views are orthographic, there is only the general shape of the submarine. I'm currently working on a second model because the shape doesn't match perfectly with the concept image. On the first picture you can see the mesh, which is a bit weird, but again, i'm only a beginner. Future pictures will be more interesting!
