First of all, this is the best $10 I ever spent on a game. None of this is a big deal but I think adding this stuff would take that last step to perfection smile-fix.gif

1. There should be a way to clear all of the pencil marks that are flashing instead of just refilling everything that's possible (backspace maybe?). As it is I have to pick the low hanging fruit on a first pass just to minimize the amount of re-work I'd have to do if I have to hit space again, or I'm stuck right clicking on 20 different boxes.
2. The Yes/No confirmation boxes should be able to be answered with the Y or N keys instead of the mouse, specifically the one that pops up after I've just hit the space bar since my hand is already on the keyboard.
3. Shade the background behind the play area a bit more. The whiter areas in the background image makes the white numbers hard to read on cheaper LCD screens.
4. Add a help menu option to display all the nifty keyboard commands. I didn't know about hitting space to fill in all the pencil marks for a couple of days after buying the game and I just now found out I can hit the number keys to highlight that number (which is important when the number didn't exist in the original puzzle)
5. Make the fade-out when taking focus away from the game window optional. With 2 monitors I'll sometimes leave the game up on one while doing work on the other and bouncing between the two and having the game keep dimming on me is a little jarring.

Cloud save repeatedly corrupting...

Unplayable glitch :(

While trying to save the game lagged out. I was still able to move and interact with my base and vehicles. Everything else stopped loading though and actually eventually disappeared, leaving my world completely empty except for my base and vehicles. After about 30 minutes of waiting for the save to finish I finally just had to dashboard quit the game, it wouldn't even let me quit normally.

Now the game tries to sync and fails, creating a 1.4KB save that is nothing and does not allow me to play. It also does not allow me to delete the cloud save as normal from the "manage game" menu on the Xbox.

I play on a new Xbox One S and have spent over 12 hours total speaking with Xbox completing every single troubleshooting option they claim to have available, and they assure me that it has nothing to do with them (which I don't really buy) or my Xbox.

It is literally preventing me from getting past the intro screen. I understand that this is a game preview, and I understand the connotations of such. However, at this point I do not have a game. I have an intro screen. If this cannot be remedied sometime soon I would very much just like my money back. If it is fixed at a later date I can decide whether or not I want to purchase it. Again I understand this is a game preview, but I no longer have a game preview, I have an intro screen :(

P.S. I would MUCH rather have this fixed I was having fun and would very much like to play the game.

I’ve played through twice since the arctic living update and ran into this bug both times. Whenever I get to the point where you need to repair the rocket and send up the bio sample, the rocket is stuck at 0% repaired and won’t repair at all. Can’t progress any further thanks to this issue. Wondering if anyone else has ran into this bug.

Fan theory - Subnautica takes place in the portal / half - life universe!

$

Ok, this might be a long post, but I've found WAY TOO MANY references / similarties between the portal / half - life games and subnautica.

Part 1: The NS connection.

As you know, Natural Selection I was a mod for Half-Life. Half-Life and Portal take place in the same universe, and Natural Selection I and Subnautica take place in the same universe as well. One can naturally conclude that Subnautica and Half-Life / Portal also take place in the same universe as well.

Part 2: Evidence:

The propulsion cannon looks A LOT like the physics gun / gravity gun.

The spaceship you came on (which was installing a PHASEGATE) is called the aurora. The people in Portal 2 teleported a boat called the borealis.

Cave crawlers look a lot like headcrabs.

The intro to portal 2 with the "you've been asleep for 9... 9... 9.. etc" is a lot like the "estimated rescue arrival time: 9... 9... 9... etc".

That's all I've got for now. If anyone else has some, let me know.

XBOX UNOFFICIAL BUG POST
Started this Post originally to get the ball rolling didn't realise how many would respond, so if you have bugs that are not on the list just mention it within the comment section below, depending on free time and playing subnautica it may take me awhile to respond or even update the list, thanks from a fellow subnautica fan for the help guys. Hopefully the major bugs will get fixed and help get the game running smoother in the foreseeable future

BUGS

- any building block's I place that goes through or slightly into the reef/ rocks & plant life will be Terra formed as expected but if you load or come back to the Area after a journey it will go back to its original form and glitch through the building block deny access through walkways etc.

- when a breach floods your base fish will swim through or spawn in the base, even found fish swimming/ floating even without a breach. while in the Cyclops/ big sub if you hold a snap block/ base building item's while in the sub it did a 360 spinning around demolishing anything in sight.

- found wreckage parts, doors, flood lights and reef parts floating in the sky.

- frame rate issues

- game crashes often even more so while playing in creative (to as expected)

- picking up alien fish even while directly next to it does not work sometimes (hit box to small?)

BUG LIST UPDATED [18/05/16]

When I finally died a hour later due to dehydration, I spawned back where the life pod was with my vehicle bay and lifepod gone. I didn't see the seamoth beacon either. Restarted the game -

- Third game crashed while I was next to the aurora and out scanning fragments. When the game reloaded I was back at the pod. The base i built and my vehicle bay were gone and again I didn't see my seamoth beacon -

- Hi I am new to the game on Xbox. I wanted to report that the game also crashes while being in the main menu just sitting in idle. I wanted to pause the game in the main menu and come back later. I tried if it was accidental but the game crashes every time while idle in main menu. It does it within an hour and quite some turns now. - oelikoelie

- I just sealed up the radiation leak and decided to head home. Upon entering my base you could constantly hear the sound of your character obtaining air from the purple brains that release 3 bubbles of air every now and then. - destinykid

- Glitch threw sea-moth while docking into moon pool causing you to sink until you hit bottom. - JONNYK301

- Your base will become transparent while in the Cyclops. - Olympicwolf

- closing bulkheads crashes the game - bbot0625

anything else that comes to me I will update this post, also anyone can contribute to the list, I know its a preview and all just here to help, also to note I will have no idea if and when these bugs are fixed (guessing after a bug update in the near future) so when that happens I will keep it up to date.

Splash Down (A Subnautica Story)

Some of you who have seen some of my very lengthy posts on this forum may have rightly come to the conclusion that I enjoy writing and I do! I particularly love creative story writing. This post is going to be the first chapter of hopefully many chapters in a novilization of Subnautica's story line. Basically, I'll be taking the elements of Subnautica's story, and weave them all together into something like a book giving the character you play as his own personality. Now, because the character you play as in Subnautica doesn't have an official name, I will be giving him one myself. Let's see... his name will be... Jeff? Yes, Jeffery Masterson. Alright, let's begin!

Splash Down - A Subnautica Story

Chapter 1: Sit back and Relax

The Aurora was a sight to behold. It was the newest ship the Alterra Corporation had rolled out of the space dock. The space dock was a massive space station orbiting Earth designed to provide the space to build massive interplanetary vessels of all shapes and sizes. It also acted as a massive air-port with many commercial ships available for boarding. The Aurora, however, was off limits to commercial travelers. She was built for a special mission to the outer reaches of explored space. She wasn't the biggest ship docked today, but she was capable of carrying around 7,000 crew with a massive cargo space. Jeffery Masterson was sitting in the thousands of rows of blue chairs in the waiting area of the space dock's airport section. He sat reading on his PDA with nothing more than a backpack and a duffel bag at his side. He glanced up through the massive observation glass out at the Aurora. At that moment, a robotic voice echoed through the intercom system over the hustle and bustle of the airport.

"Alterra specialized craft Aurora now boarding. Please proceed to the Specialized Launch section and provide your Alterra IDs."

Jeff slid his personal PDA in his backpack, grabbed his duffel bag, and headed off on the long walk toward the corner of the boarding section dodging travelers that were walking to and fro. A hollow panel on the ceiling read, 'Specialized Launch'. Jeff approached the security check and was thankful to be one of the first few people in the line. After the person in front of him went through, Jeff came up to the scanner array.

"ID." A security officer said with a sigh. "Put your things in the luggage scanner and please step into the array."

Jeff handed him his ID. This ID identified him as an Alterra employee and authorized him for this special mission. Not your typical passport ID that most commercial travelers have. He deposited his luggage onto the hover belt that slowly moved his bags through a scanner. Then, he stepped into the large scanner array. The thing looked much like a door frame with a shiny black interior and white exterior. A blue light flashed on from the top and aimed a blue laser scanner down at Jeff. Instantly a green checkmark appeared on a monitor sticking out from the side of the frame.

"You're cleared. Next." The security officer barely let his words leave his mouth before saying 'next'.

Jeff grabbed his hovering luggage from the hover belt and continued on to to a door that lead to a horizontal elevator that would take him to the boarding tower that was attached to the Aurora and held it in place. Jeff stepped onto the massive platform that was the elevator and once enough people had gotten on, it automatically began zooming down a large glass corridor. Jeff got a really good view of the entire space dock. He had never really seen the immensity of the station since he hadn't traveled much except the few times he went with his family on vacations to Mars when he was too young to remember.

Jeff let out a low whistle as he observed the massive line of various ships all docked to the side of the station's exterior forward deck.

Before Jeff had fully taken in the view, a dark shadow came over the glass corridor. He turned around to see the Aurora in all its glory as the sun became blotted out by it. The ship was much bigger up close than he had initially imagined when viewing it from the waiting area. The elevator slowed to a stop and everyone began stepping off the elevator into the boarding tower's main room. Here, several corridors went directly from this room into the Aurora's boarding bay. Above each corridor was a label that identified a class. 'Engineer', 'Pilot', 'Administrative', 'Medical', 'Communications', etc. Jeff was a simple engineer who specialized in PRAWN suit maintenance. He had always wan'ted to pilot one of those things, but all he got to do was repair them which Jeff still enjoyed as much as a hovercar referbisher would enjoy fixing up old hovercars. He stepped into the corridor labeled 'Engineer' and walked down the long hallway until he came into what looked like a large cargo bay where there seemed to be crew members directing people to their assignments. As a group of people went off to the left, Jeff saw a crew member appear out from behind them.

"Engineer?" He said simply.

"Yeah, PRAWN maintenance and repair." Jeff replied.

"ID please."

Jeff used his free hand to retrieve his Alterra passport from his pocket and gave it to the man.

"Alright..." The man looked at the ID, glanced down at a PDA, and scrolled down a list. "Alright Jeffery Masterson, PRAWN personnel are to report to deck 5, Living Quarters branch 17. Head off to your left and follow the signs. Your room number is 119. Place your ID's bar-code up to the scanner to unlock the door. If you get lost, just find a computer terminal and pull up a map of the ship."

"Alright, thanks." Jeff said. The crewman simply looked past him to the next personnel coming in behind him.

Jeff headed off to the left where at the end of the cargo bay was a door that lead into a hallway. Once he reached the door, he saw an elevator at the end of the hall and quickly made his way toward the people piling into it. The doors shut behind him and a woman closest to the elevator's terminal began punching in numbers and asking people what deck they were going to.

"And you?" she asked Jeff.

"Deck five." he said.

After a bit more asking around, she finally entered all the decks everyone would be going to and the elevator starting going up. After several stops, Jeff finally came to deck five and exited the elevator into another set of hallways. A sign on the wall directed him to his left for Living Quarters. He made his way down several long hallways occasionally passing by a crew member that seemed quite enveloped in their work.

"Hey does anyone know why my Crew PDA is using the Vanilla 1.0 OS?" A crewmember called behind Jeff as he passed by him.

A reply came from some where down the hall behind him. "You musta been issued an older PDA, Thomas. Relax, its only one version older. I hear 1.1 isn't much different anyway."

Eventually Jeff came to the Living Quarters hallway and he started counting down the door numbers. "123, 122, 121, 120, Ah, here's 119."

Jeff took out his ID and placed it in front of the wall scanner and after a split second, the door unlocked and an automated voice chimed, "Welcome aboard."

The interior was very meager. A shelf, a bed, some wall lockers and a chair with a small shelf sticking out of the wall next to it that Jeff assumed was a table. He dropped his things and picked up a PDA that was sitting on his bed. As he turned it on, a loading screen appeared and an automated voice came over the tiny speaker in the handle of the PDA.

"Welcome to the Aurora personnel 119. This PDA will serve as your work PDA. DO NOT mistake it for your personal PDA. This device will only be used for work. According to launch schedule, you are not required of anything at this moment. Please standby for bridge orders. In the meantime, make yourself at home! Alterra Corp. hopes you enjoy your time here."

Jeff plopped down onto his bed and spoke to the PDA. "Work schedule and mission length?"

The AI replied. "2,941 hours of work time estimated to be in your schedule and flight is estimated to take a maximum of 2 to 3 years."

Jeff let out a long sigh. "I better relax while I have the chance."

End Chapter 1

I hope you guys enjoyed! Don't worry, things are going to get a whole lot more interesting!

Hey guys!

Subnautica is currently in Early Access and as such you may from time to time encounter bugs and in the worst case, crashes. If you have issues with stability of Subnautica, please post your issues with as much detail as possible (video/screenshots/descriptions), followed by the following requested information:

Example Topic Title:
[Crash] Open my Locker and Crash! [Version Number]

1) Please run dxdiag.exe (search windows for it) on your systems and hit the button 'save all information' in the bottom right. Save this file for later.

LHmLsSd.png

2) Navigate to your Subnautica Folder in Steam (should be steamapps\common\Subnautica)

3) Open the Subnautica_Data folder and grab a copy of 'output_log.txt'

[Below Zero] Bug with snow helmet

Build Version:- Aug-2019 17313
Platform:- Windows 10 Steam Platform
Date:- 04/08/2019
time:- 21:38

After making the Snow Suit in creative and putting it; on the mask overlay for the helmet is mismatched to the player's face, so I see the border of the mask but around that you see the environment through the border of the mask piece on the player, It is not a high priority to get this fixed though i'd much rather the major bugs get done first

Steps made to reproduce the bug:-

made a second save in creative and made the snow suit, still the same bug

Does anyone else find the start of Below Zero kinda corny?

The first Subnautica intro was so powerfull to me. The alarms as the screen fades in, the sight of the exploding ship, waking up to a fire. Then opening up your escape pod and realizing youre all alone with nothing but the ocean and the Aurora wreck in the distance. This all happens in less than a minute and after it you get a clear signal youre all alone trying to survive. Youre a silent protagonist with no face and its easy to get immersed into your character. There are no "quests" or handholding, specialy at the start and it feels like a open world thats too grand to care about you.

In Below Zero I actualy dont like the little tour before your escape pod drops, especialy since its above water. I can buy 7000 other games with good looking science buildings and above water landscapes. I bought Subnautica expecting a impressive underwater intro. When you walk around your base, encounter a alien waygate in the first 30 seconds and have small talk with your sister, it feels like a generic shooter intro. There is less sense of dread.

My first reaction was "what kind of profesional builds a base near a avalanche and can I dig it up" and my second was "I want my sister to send me more stuff".

Also, I dont mind the protagonist being a black female LGBT if thats woke or sells better. But I do think talking ruins the immersion and reminds me I am playing a computer character in a video game.
I dont think I would had been nearly as terrified of my first reaper attack if Riley said "oh golly jeezs its a monster" and his sidekick over the phone said "Riley watch out!".

My sugestions would be:

Have a intro where you start with just a escape pod or something simmilar right away. Nobody complained that in Subnautica you dont first walk around the Aurora for 5 minutes before it crashes.

Wait a few days and do a repair mission to make the alien tech talk to you. "This waygate was always silent but decided to talk English in the first 20 sec of the game" feels like a scenario out of Scooby Doo.

Be unable to reply to your sister. So she can still send information and a few supplies from the sky, but you still feel genuinley alone and cut off. And not "why didnt my asshole sister put 700 food rations in the launch pod she sent me".

I know the developers are probably excited about their vision and hiring more voice acting with a bigger budget, so this isnt very probable to make it into the game. But I just wanted to vent a bit.

The intro sets the tone that is less opressive survival game and more disney cartoon.

Borealis Rising - A Subnautica Story, V2.0.
By: Bugzapper (Lee Perkins).

CHAPTER ONE

Unlike a certain Mr. Samuel L. Clemens, the reports of my death are entirely accurate.

Alexander Fergus Selkirk lived to the ripe old age of 115 years, and died three times in the process. We're not talking about any 'dying on the operating table'- type deaths, either. The first time, I blundered into the path of a hungry Stalker and paid the price for my singular lack of caution. All things considered, I got off extremely lightly. Having a working Valkyrie Field in the Lifepod gave me a second chance, and I dare say that I learned a valuable lesson from that experience.

Considering that this planet is essentially a heaving mass of aquatic life forms with a marked taste for human flesh, it would serve you well to keep your wits about you. If you've accessed my earlier log entries, you'll probably be aware of the most prevalent threats that planet 4546B (a.k.a 'Alpha Hydrae IV' or 'Manannán') has to offer. I have done my best to provide a broad assessment of each alien species encountered so far, including their general appearance, typical behaviour patterns and perceived threat levels. Please be advised that this information is by no means complete and highly subject to revision, since this planet has entered a state of accelerated evolution. It is entirely possible that new life forms are appearing even as this account is being written.

Yes, you did read that last sentence correctly.

My second death was a rather more unpleasant surprise. Approximately eight months after Aurora crashed on this planet, a Torgaljin Corporation commercial frigate arrived and commenced highly secretive operations near one of my undersea bases. Since I had already launched a deep-space distress beacon by that time and the frigate De Ruyter had made no obvious attempts to contact me, I became immediately suspicious of their intentions. A few days later, a Torgaljin security team entered my base and I was murdered by their leader, Invigilator Galen Tomar. After being restored to life by the Valkyrie Field, I commenced a retaliatory action that culminated in the destruction of De Ruyter and the loss of its crew. This particular outcome was not at all intentional, although the follow-up operation against Torgaljin Corp's base in the Lava Castle was entirely successful and no further human lives were lost during our assault on this facility.

As for what happened to the inhabitants of the Torgaljin base in the aftermath of that raid, I can only speculate how events might have unfolded. As the Lava Castle base has been effectively isolated for the past hundred and two years, I am understandably reluctant to carry out a detailed reconnaissance mission in order to ascertain whether anyone is still alive down there. Camera drones have been sent there on several occasions, although they were deliberately made to be unable to operate the base's airlock controls. My greatest concern is that Torgaljin personnel might capture a more sophisticated drone and begin reverse-engineering its more accessible components. Considering that I took particular care in completely shutting down Torgaljin's illegal operations on this planet, I had no intention of handing over what amounted to an instant technological advantage. They were slapped down hard, and I want those bastards to stay slapped down.
Permanently.
