Updated with new modid and stuff, now called ns2_descent_goodvents! Please update your workshop links!

Workshop link!

I've limited the scope of this mod from its previous iteration. The intent is simply to make the vents more fair as well as remove a couple minor gameplay greviances that players have had. It should make the map a little bit more fun for players (particularly marines).

The layout!
bBalyRK.jpg

Balance

* Removed Launch-Shipping vent
* Removed Monorail-Water vent
* Removed Shipping-Hydro vent on South side of room

* Added additional Shuttle Bay-Gravity vent
* Added Gravity-Shipping vent
* Added Water-Silo vent

* Fixed Hydro broken glass tube to prevent dumb shotgun marine hijinks
* Added pipe and cables to block LOS from northern Hydro vent entrance to
prevent Gorges from biling structures from an invincible spot (Thanks, Psyk!)
* Broke down catwalk in Shuttle-Grav hallway to increase marine speed to the top
* Increased size of Nebula sign in Receiving northward to better block LOS to Receiving-Hydro staircase
* Broke glass and opened door in desk/kiosk thing in Receiving to offer some additional way into/out of Shipping
* Broke glass on rounded corner of room East of Gravity to give LOS to vent for marines to kill escaping aliens
* Removed crates and a support beam to upper Shipping to make the area a bit better for combat
* Added additional crates to right conveyor in Shipping to help protect Gorges biling arcs from above
* Removed ability to stand on wall in Shipping-Hydro connector

Visual

* Added reflective glass reflections and geo to props that don't have it (big ones being room in between Observation-Drone and the tubes in Hydro)
* Fixed a number of areas with misaligned textures and holes (don't remember where, but all over the map)
* Removed a bunch of lights that were inside the walls
* Changed the signs in Plaza and other areas to have proper aspect ratios (the Descent Station signs should show a round planet now instead of an oval one)

No Man's Sky 'stealing' from Subnautica?

So, earlier today No Man's Sky released their 'Into The Abyss' free content update and my god does it take some heavy 'inspiration' from Subnautica. I urge you to watch the update video, or at least the first minute of it because you'll be surprised about how much influence Subnautica has had:

https://twitter.com/NoMansSky/status/1056907726998118401

and this image:

https://twitter.com/subcide/status/1056936175896805377

So my question is this, are you guys really flattered by all of this, or a little disgruntled? I reckon it's pretty cool and am keen to hear what @Obraxis and other developer team members think about it if they have a moment. Thank for your time! :)
*edit: clickbait title reformation for dem views

Missing blueprint pieces. Literally.

PC, Experimental Build 53837

Can't find any pieces of the drill arm. I've played this game through several times, so I pretty much know where everything is. I've explored every corner of every wreck and not found hide nor hair of a drill arm for the Prawn.

I know folks have had trouble finding all the pieces for something, or finding something you need early in the game in a place too deep to get to, and of course the blueprint progress disappearing, but this is the first time where I've found no pieces of something. I'm wondering if my game somehow spawned without the drill arm pieces.

Anyone else seeing something like this?

Creative mode power bug

I found a small bug on Xbox One for Creative Mode. Power generators, like the nuclear reactor and bioreactor, don't work, along with spotlights and floodlights. Looks like re-logging fixes it. Just a small bug, nothing too important.

A New Leviathan for Subnautica?

$

For a little while, I have had an idea for a new leviathan for Subnautica. It is called "Bone Stalker Leviathan". It is currently an actual project that I have been working on for a little while now. I'm not an artist but I created a little bit of art of what it could look like. Right now, it is just artwork on a piece of paper. There isn't any computer 3D art of it because I haven't figured out how to do that yet. I do not want to share any specific details about the bone stalker leviathan because I want to share that information directly with one of the Subnautica developers. I will share a little bit about what it is. I would like the Subnautica developers to consider my idea for this creature to be possibly implemented into the game or a future DLC for Subnautica.

I would like to post my artwork on the forum but I haven't figured out how to post a picture yet. I am still kind of new to the Subnautica forums. Can I get some help and maybe some feedback on how I can get in contact with a Subnautica developer?

Hi,

Following this topic, I honored my promise releasing an ns2_hera :)

https://forums.unknownworlds.com/discussion/140321/port-ns2-hera/p1

Here are the boring informations :

Creators :
ns_hera by...

ns2_hera for Diamondgammer server (+ NS1 mod) by Avoca & Rusty :

ns2_hera_2018 for NS2.0 by Xale (NS1Player)

Changelog

This changelog apply to Rusty's version released ~4 years ago

- April 2018 : Beginning of the project
- September 2018 : Beta Testing
- October 2018 : Released !

#### Changelog ####

ReadyRoom :

- Removed Diamonds
- Added some Ready_Room_Player
- added some lights
- added ambiance sounds

Entities :

- ns2_gamerules : Now in center of readyroom
- skybox : Now in center of readyroom
- path_meshing : Created in center of readyroom
-
- Added power_points for each room
- Added some Commander_camera

Light :

- Extra Light for some rooms especially Entrance & Reception / Maintenance Corridor

RT Change :

- Added a node in Maintenance Corridor (like in old NS)
- Processing node is now downstairs (N2 behavior)
- Marine start RT replaced inside as in NS1.0 (NB : outside is blocked by a force field now sorry)
- Holoroom has 2 ress nodes (like original ns_hera) but one is not working and obstructed by a piece of metal. This is to help rookie understand this is an important place in the map (for PG for example), but I didn't want a double ress here (or I should have delete Cargo...).

Gameplay :

- removed some ladders and replaces by stairs or blocks. Everything has been tested so that the drifter could sort it out
- Added a small corridor in processing otherwise Ventilation 3-C was a bit too isolated
- blocked Waste near entrance with crates (since they're is no weldable door marine would rush/ARC this hive too fast from Marine Start)
- added an access on Ventilation-3C for the drifter to be able to go up/down
- Alpha some props so the commander has a cleaner view
- Removed the floor door in cargo and as Onos would get stucked and won't be able to go up

- Added armory for Marines at start because it's a hard map for marine I think.

Graphics :

- Entrance & Reception remade a bit (one of my favorite part of the map)
- Reworked some Textures on Data Core Delta
- Added a planet prop in Holoroom
- Waterfall texture replaced with more realistic water texture
- Lots of little stuff......

Optimisation :

- Absolutely no "OcclusionGeometry" was in the map (Crappy FPS you guess...) so I added them. It's still far from perfect. But the map doesn't use much props so the framerate seems ok.
- Remove some point/lines, hope this will help too

Sounds :

- added some ambiant sound, always helps :)

Possible gameplay changes possible (depending on win/lose ratio) :

- Making Data Core Delta defaut hive for alien.
- Remove Cargo RT and put double RT in holoroom
- Remove crates in Marines start, opening it to Cargo

Known problem :

- Still some pathing for Drifter/Mac (fixed)
- Vents doesn't appear in the overview

I won't improve this version so much since It has been original imported from NS1 trough Blender ( https://www.blender.org/ ). Technicaly, they are tons of duplicate line & point, and lots of points aren't even in the grid, making it very painfull to work on some areas.

I may plan doing a new ns_hera from schratch, or at least a descent Layout (I've drawn a new layout on small tile sheet). Oh by the wait if you know a way to contact Janos & Alibi who started to remade ns_hera (but abandonned) I'm interested.

I know the map isn't perfect, thus I spend a lot of time on it (200 hours I guess ...to be honest I tough I would give up !), but I hope you'll be happy to play a descent version of hera in NS2...!!

Don't hesitate to post constructive feedback here or on the steam workshop page (I don't use discord sorry).

XBOX UNOFFICIAL BUG POST
Started this Post originally to get the ball rolling didn't realise how many would respond, so if you have bugs that are not on the list just mention it within the comment section below, depending on free time and playing subnautica it may take me awhile to respond or even update the list, thanks from a fellow subnautica fan for the help guys. Hopefully the major bugs will get fixed and help get the game running smoother in the foreseeable future

BUGS

- found wreckage parts, doors, flood lights and reef parts floating in the sky.

- frame rate issues

- game crashes often even more so while playing in creative (to as expected)

- picking up alien fish even while directly next to it does not work sometimes (hit box to small?)

BUG LIST UPDATED [18/05/16]

BUG LIST UPDATED [09/06/16]

- Hi I am new to the game on Xbox. I wanted to report that the game also crashes while being in the main menu just sitting in idle. I wanted to pause the game in the main menu and come back later. I tried if it was accidental but the game crashes every time while idle in main menu. It does it within an hour and quite some turns now. - oelikoelie

- I found that fragments in my game despawn mid-scanning period when I'm bitten by a Biter. Really annoying, 'cause I really need a mobile vehicle bay. - Darwin-Evolution

- it only happened once but I tried to get into my base via moonpool but when I went into it, I fell through the base and landed on the ground (underwater) like I was on land. Only for me to realize that my oxygen was not going down and I was walking underwater (like my base) and I had to climb up to my hatch to "leave my base" - trainman16

- sometimes if I look down while I am in my base it slows my walking speed to nearly 5% - Melinity

- As soon as I finished building a multi-purpose room the game crashed and I lost all of my data, the game denies that I have created any saved games - Rawrr

- I just sealed up the radiation leak and decided to head home. Upon entering my base you could constantly hear the sound of your character obtaining air from the purple brains that release 3 bubbles of air every now and then. - destinykid

- Glitch threw sea-moth while docking into moon pool causing you to sink until you hit bottom. - JONNYK301

- Your base will become transparent while in the Cyclops. - Olympicwolf

- closing bulkheads crashes the game - bbot0625

anything else that comes to me I will update this post, also anyone can contribute to the list, I know its a preview and all just here to help, also to note I will have no idea if and when these bugs are fixed (guessing after a bug update in the near future) so when that happens I will keep it up to date.

Can't get my black armor to work
hi guys,
As the topic stats I can't get my black armor to work.
I have dubble and triple checked that all the product keys are registered on steam.
I checked my options and it's on "Armor type black" but I'm still green.

Can some one help me get it to work.
Cheers // Saaywhu

Has anyone noticed that the Seamoth opens outwards when you exit. But because the water pressure on the outside is greater than that of the air on the inside, the hatch shouldn’t open at all. Or maybe there is something with the sub being at ambient pressure or something idk.

Subnautica Below Zero Announced (SPOILERS)

$

Subnautica Below Zero will be a short sequel to the original game, more information here:

https://unknownworlds.com/subnautica/subnautica-below-zero/

This would be amazing to participate in the Early Access.

Trello:

https://trello.com/b/TQdBAYiP/subnautica-below-zero

I did not look through every note, but these are things I think are interesting:

This takes place after the events of Subnautica. The player will be a female, and they will apparently start out in a drop zone. There will also be various supply drops, most likely needed to establish a base. There will also bme more alien facilities.

It appears there will be additional base maintenance, and your base can be destroyed, and certain terrain features can also be broken. There will also be severe snowstorms that the player can seek refuge from in caves. There will also be something called a Spike Trap.

Several creatures will make a return, but there will also be several new creatures, such as Penguins and Rock Punchers.

Temperature will be the primary factor in survival, but there will be hot springs, and plants that provide heat.

Twisty Bridges and Lillypad Islands will be 2 new biomes in the upcoming chapter.

Hoverbike will be a new vehicle as a surface-only vehicle, heavily dependent on a Hoverpad to recharge. The bike will use up power, but will have an automatic shut off when the player is a certain distance away.

PRAWN Suit is removed as a vehicle, but a new vehicle will be added called a SeaTruck, which appears to have similar functionality of the PRAWN. The SeaTruck will also have some sort of fishing capability.

Lastly: Teleporter Room???

Reaper Leviathan phobia

So, I am playing Subnautica since January now. I haven't finished the game yet but I have a phobia.
I am terrified of Reaper Leviathans.
I just cannot get close to Aurora, since I am terribly scared.
I've even turned on the "invisible" cheat, but the phobia is still there, even tough I clearly know I can't get hurt.
Any suggestions?
Are there any anti-Reaper-Leviathan-phobia pills?

Ideas For Subnautica Below Zero

$

So what do you think should be in Below Zero?
I’m not really sure, because i’m really happy with what the the developers have come up with so far, but I am very curious to know if there will be a pet you can have and if there is, what is it? I was thinking about some sort of creature that can survive on land and underwater. I was thinking that you could tame it in the wild or just hatch it from an egg. It should also be able to help with certain things like scavenging for certain items and it should attack whatever attacks you, but it won’t atack what you hit, unless it’s a hostile creature.
So anyways, what ideas do you have for Below Zero?

Splash Down (A Subnautica Story)

Some of you who have seen some of my very lengthy posts on this forum may have rightly come to the conclusion that I enjoy writing and I do! I particularly love creative story writing. This post is going to be the first chapter of hopefully many chapters in a novilization of Subnautica's story line. Basically, I'll be taking the elements of Subnautica's story, and weave them all together into something like a book giving the character you play as his own personality. Now, because the character you play as in Subnautica doesn't have an official name, I will be giving him one myself. Let's see... his name will be... Jeff? Yes, Jeffery Masterson. Alright, let's begin!

Splash Down - A Subnautica Story

Chapter 1: Sit back and Relax

The Aurora was a sight to behold. It was the newest ship the Alterra Corporation had rolled out of the space dock. The space dock was a massive space station orbiting Earth designed to provide the space to build massive interplanetary vessels of all shapes and sizes. It also acted as a massive air-port with many commercial ships available for boarding. The Aurora, however, was off limits to commercial travelers. She was built for a special mission to the outer reaches of explored space. She wasn't the biggest ship docked today, but she was capable of carrying around 7,000 crew with a massive cargo space. Jeffery Masterson was sitting in the thousands of rows of blue chairs in the waiting area of the space dock's airport section. He sat reading on his PDA with nothing more than a backpack and a duffel bag at his side. He glanced up through the massive observation glass out at the Aurora. At that moment, a robotic voice echoed through the intercom system over the hustle and bustle of the airport.

"Alterra specialized craft Aurora now boarding. Please proceed to the Specialized Launch section and provide your Alterra IDs."

Jeff slid his personal PDA in his backpack, grabbed his duffel bag, and headed off on the long walk toward the corner of the boarding section dodging travelers that were walking to and fro. A hollow panel on the ceiling read, 'Specialized Launch'. Jeff approached the security check and was thankful to be one of the first few people in the line. After the person in front of him went through, Jeff came up to the scanner array.

"ID." A security officer said with a sigh. "Put your things in the luggage scanner and please step into the array."

Jeff handed him his ID. This ID identified him as an Alterra employee and authorized him for this special mission. Not your typical passport ID that most commercial travelers have. He deposited his luggage onto the hover belt that slowly moved his bags through a scanner. Then, he stepped into the large scanner array. The thing looked much like a door frame with a shiny black interior and white exterior. A blue light flashed on from the top and aimed a blue laser scanner down at Jeff. Instantly a green checkmark appeared on a monitor sticking out from the side of the frame.

"You're cleared. Next." The security officer barely let his words leave his mouth before saying 'next'.

Jeff grabbed his hovering luggage from the hover belt and continued on to to a door that lead to a horizontal elevator that would take him to the boarding tower that was attached to the Aurora and held it in place. Jeff stepped onto the massive platform that was the elevator and once enough people had gotten on, it automatically began zooming down a large glass corridor. Jeff got a really good view of the entire space dock. He had never really seen the immensity of the station since he hadn't traveled much except the few times he went with his family on vacations to Mars when he was too young to remember.

Jeff let out a low whistle as he observed the massive line of various ships all docked to the side of the station's exterior forward deck.

Before Jeff had fully taken in the view, a dark shadow came over the glass corridor. He turned around to see the Aurora in all its glory as the sun became blotted out by it. The ship was much bigger up close than he had initially imagined when viewing it from the waiting area. The elevator slowed to a stop and everyone began stepping off the elevator into the boarding tower's main room. Here, several corridors went directly from this room into the Aurora's boarding bay. Above each corridor was a label that identified a class. 'Engineer', 'Pilot', 'Administrative', 'Medical', 'Communications', etc. Jeff was a simple engineer who specialized in PRAWN suit maintenance. He had always wan'ted to pilot one of those things, but all he got to do was repair them which Jeff still enjoyed as much as a hovercar referbisher would enjoy fixing up old hovercars. He stepped into the corridor labeled 'Engineer' and walked down the long hallway until he came into what looked like a large cargo bay where there seemed to be crew members directing people to their assignments. As a group of people went off to the left, Jeff saw a crew member appear out from behind them.

"Engineer?" He said simply.

"Yeah, PRAWN maintenance and repair." Jeff replied.

"ID please."

Jeff used his free hand to retrieve his Alterra passport from his pocket and gave it to the man.

"Alright..." The man looked at the ID, glanced down at a PDA, and scrolled down a list. "Alright Jeffery Masterson, PRAWN personnel are to report to deck 5, Living Quarters branch 17. Head off to your left and follow the signs. Your room number is 119. Place your ID's bar-code up to the scanner to unlock the door. If you get lost, just find a computer terminal and pull up a map of the ship."

"Alright, thanks." Jeff said. The crewman simply looked past him to the next personnel coming in behind him.

Jeff headed off to the left where at the end of the cargo bay was a door that lead into a hallway. Once he reached the door, he saw an elevator at the end of the hall and quickly made his way toward the people piling into it. The doors shut behind him and a woman closest to the elevator's terminal began punching in numbers and asking people what deck they were going to.

"And you?" she asked Jeff.

"Deck five." he said.

After a bit more asking around, she finally entered all the decks everyone would be going to and the elevator starting going up. After several stops, Jeff finally came to deck five and exited the elevator into another set of hallways. A sign on the wall directed him to his left for Living Quarters. He made his way down several long hallways occasionally passing by a crew member that seemed quite enveloped in their work.

"Hey does anyone know why my Crew PDA is using the Vanilla 1.0 OS?" A crewmember called behind Jeff as he passed by him.

A reply came from some where down the hall behind him. "You musta been issued an older PDA, Thomas. Relax, its only one version older. I hear 1.1 isn't much different anyway."

Eventually Jeff came to the Living Quarters hallway and he started counting down the door numbers. "123, 122, 121, 120, Ah, here's 119."

Jeff took out his ID and placed it in front of the wall scanner and after a split second, the door unlocked and an automated voice chimed, "Welcome aboard."

The interior was very meager. A shelf, a bed, some wall lockers and a chair with a small shelf sticking out of the wall next to it that Jeff assumed was a table. He dropped his things and picked up a PDA that was sitting on his bed. As he turned it on, a loading screen appeared and an automated voice came over the tiny speaker in the handle of the PDA.

"Welcome to the Aurora personnel 119. This PDA will serve as your work PDA. DO NOT mistake it for your personal PDA. This device will only be used for work. According to launch schedule, you are not required of anything at this moment. Please standby for bridge orders. In the meantime, make yourself at home! Alterra Corp. hopes you enjoy your time here."

Jeff plopped down onto his bed and spoke to the PDA. "Work schedule and mission length?"

The AI replied. "2,941 hours of work time estimated to be in your schedule and flight is estimated to take a maximum of 2 to 3 years."

Jeff let out a long sigh. "I better relax while I have the chance."

End Chapter 1

I hope you guys enjoyed! Don't worry, things are going to get a whole lot more interesting!
