Lost River Skeleton - Observations, Science, and things which make no sense

$

Here is a list of observations I made about the skeleton (pretty interesting, really, if you're into biology or archeology or anything sciency, really).

1. since in all cases, the biology of 4546B is very similar to that of Earth, (since they're both largely oceanic rocky planets, this makes sense,) we can notice that the lost river creature likely had four eyes and a neck joint very different from that of any creature of earth, (since the three indentations we see in the side of its head head are three rather than four like in a T-Rex, and none of them look like the fourth gap where the T-Rex's neck meets its skull. Therefore, the lost river skeleton likely had four eyes and no sense of smell or six eyes and.. very... few senses; (although this would make sense if the creature were more like an eel). This is supported by the biters quadruple eyes. (note that I used the T-Rex as an analogue because the creature in the lost river appears serpentine and eel-like and the Saurians of earth had many similar bone structures as reptiles like snakes.)
2. It might have been so ancient a creature that rays were also derived from it, since it has a pair of horns which reminisce of the rabbit ray.
3. An eel is not a very good analogue for this creature because eels have a skeleton, (specifically rib-cage,) more like the transparent river eels; and so must have been more similar to an aquatic reptile and so a Tyrannosaurus is a very good example for it to follow.
4. We now know that the creature was very different from the other creatures on this list and would have been something similar to an aquatic reptile in bone structure rather than a 'fish' like an eel. We can also make the leap that creatures like Stalkers evolved from it; since stalkers do look a good deal like some prehistoric fishes of earth like the late species the Mixosaurus.
5. This creature, due to its amazing size and obvious need for circulation due to its monstrosity, wouldn't be able to survive at very deep depths. The reason, of course, is that any creature that has to capture gas in their lungs to breathe will encounter the pressure inside their lungs gradually becoming greater than the pressure outside their lungs the deeper they went; meaning that the creature might suffer spontaneous lung collapse as I imagine. Another danger, if they have some special way of depressurizing a layer of specially-fit blubber for example, they would also experience all of the oxygen still in their bloodstream gathering into bubbles and giving them fizzy seltzer blood. But really though, the brain would not be able to absorb these bubbles of air and the owner of the brain would suffocate. And so, it would probably have swim bladders so that it could float along at around where the current reefbacks of Subnautica would cruise.
6. A living specimen would be something like 1200 meters long
7. In order to survive, it'd need some crazy source of calories; and so it likely lived in a world of leviathans
8. Had something like fins on the bottom of its jaw along its cheek jutting out at an angle; maybe bioluminescent.
9. Would have gone after much smaller prey since although its bite is huge, it takes up like a 15% of its entire body length.
10. Would have been so freaking stupid. It's brain to body mass ratio would be worse than any of the sentient creatures on earth. Think earthworm with fangs and a predatory mouth.

Here are a list of observations which make this all sound ridiculous:

1. it's spinal cord is along its stomach and chest, and not the other way around like it is for most creatures with a rib-cage (this means that it would have a behavior like a sandshark and await prey before popping out of the sand, and grabbing its prey. However, due to one of my other points, it'd have to stay in the shallows in order to be able to do this)
2. Eel skulls have only one indentation in the side of its head and don't have a ribcage. T-Rex's, for instance, have four indentations in their skull and have a ribcage. The lost river creature has three indentations in its skull, a ribcage, but its spinal cord somewhere on its stomach and probably can't move its neck very well because it doesn't appear to be attached to its spinal cord.
3. I'm beginning to wonder if the precursors messed around with the skeleton a bit more than I thought previously. Maybe they engineered the corpse as a practical joke for explorers to come, who knows.
4. Along with my precursors theory, this might be one of those 'put the head of the diplodocus on its tail again' moments. (scifiwriterguy is going to give me so much crap if I got that reference wrong) :#
5. Might have lived at a much cooler climate. Lizards, (which are resilient against heat,) tend to have flatter skeletons. This creature, however, what with being so large, would need a way to get rid of its excess heat well; and since I don't see any scales on it it'd be better fit for a cooler climate which might have actually helped with the whole pressure thing. (note that the river creature, although gargantuan, is long rather than fat. A superheated sphere will trap more heat than a superheated cylinder of the same mass yet greater surface area; part of the reason, (I imagine,) that snakes like to curl up into mounds when its cold and dark out.

P.S. I really do fear that @scifiwriterguy has already read this entire document and is preparing to post a page worth's of comments describing his own opinion on the matter.

So, the game is finaly out and I've been enjoying the game alot !

However...
20180125223133_1.jpg

Just to add a bit more of clarification: The orange dot in the ground is what is left of my seamoth stuck in the floor in the
Island with the orbital gun thing.
(foot for scale).

Yeah..thats still happening.

I mean, it was fun in the last 10 times it happend (specialy the times I would get ported below the map into the endless abyss) EDIT: That was back
in E.A
but right now I'm feeling rather disapointed and frustrated with this. Is there a Fix where I won't have to deal with this shit without having to use console commands and get my achivements blocked ?

I don't want to sound too much as a sarcastic prick as I do understand the game just recently launched, but given the time the it has been in development it boogles my mind this is still a thing and losing 6 hours of progress just because of this problem ain't no fun at all guys.

That said though I'm still enjoying Subnautica, I think it has a great idea and it's been fun to fight my fears of deep water. Here's hoping this get resolved soon.

Ideas for new Expansion Biomes

1. In the middle of the huge, somewhat useless dunes, there should be the lilypad islands biome. It would be similiar to the floating islands, except the islands have huge green roots connecting them. Some of the roots are connected to lilypads that float on the surface of the water. There would also be a larger version of ghost trees, and one large island on top of a lilypad. It would have lots of tropical plants, with some sort of new land fauna.

2. The arctic biome would be near the edge of the map, north of the lifepod. It would have cold weather that would kill you without the proper armor, and ice punchers (like rock punchers). Some of the islands are on the surface, with some kind of penguin things.

3. Some caves in the safe shallows lead to the twisty bridges cave biome. It is located somewhat deep underwater from 75 - 400 meters and has huge tentacles that spread throughout the cave that would be covered in barnacles. It would be a bit larger than the jellyshroom caves. It has one huge deadly octopus creature that camoflauges as one of those tentacle rocks. It is a slow but deadly leviathan species, although only one spawns at 325-400M inside the cave. It can grab the player and swallow him (or her).

Splash Down (A Subnautica Story)

Some of you who have seen some of my very lengthy posts on this forum may have rightly come to the conclusion that I enjoy writing and I do! I particularly love creative story writing. This post is going to be the first chapter of hopefully many chapters in a novilization of Subnautica's story line. Basically, I'll be taking the elements of Subnautica's story, and weave them all together into something like a book giving the character you play as his own personality. Now, because the character you play as in Subnautica doesn't have an official name, I will be giving him one myself. Let's see... his name will be... Jeff? Yes, Jeffery Masterson. Alright, let's begin!

Splash Down - A Subnautica Story

Chapter 1: Sit back and Relax

The Aurora was a sight to behold. It was the newest ship the Alterra Corporation had rolled out of the space dock. The space dock was a massive space station orbiting Earth designed to provide the space to build massive interplanetary vessels of all shapes and sizes. It also acted as a massive air-port with many commercial ships available for boarding. The Aurora, however, was off limits to commercial travelers. She was built for a special mission to the outer reaches of explored space. She wasn't the biggest ship docked today, but she was capable of carrying around 7,000 crew with a massive cargo space. Jeffery Masterson was sitting in the thousands of rows of blue chairs in the waiting area of the space dock's airport section. He sat reading on his PDA with nothing more than a backpack and a duffel bag at his side. He glanced up through the massive observation glass out at the Aurora. At that moment, a robotic voice echoed through the intercom system over the hustle and bustle of the airport.

"Alterra specialized craft Aurora now boarding. Please proceed to the Specialized Launch section and provide your Alterra IDs."

Jeff slid his personal PDA in his backpack, grabbed his duffel bag, and headed off on the long walk toward the corner of the boarding section dodging travelers that were walking to and fro. A hollow panel on the ceiling read, 'Specialized Launch'. Jeff approached the security check and was thankful to be one of the first few people in the line. After the person in front of him went through, Jeff came up to the scanner array.

"ID." A security officer said with a sigh. "Put your things in the luggage scanner and please step into the array."

Jeff handed him his ID. This ID identified him as an Alterra employee and authorized him for this special mission. Not your typical passport ID that most commercial travelers have. He deposited his luggage onto the hover belt that slowly moved his bags through a scanner. Then, he stepped into the large scanner array. The thing looked much like a door frame with a shiny black interior and white exterior. A blue light flashed on from the top and aimed a blue laser scanner down at Jeff. Instantly a green checkmark appeared on a monitor sticking out from the side of the frame.

"You're cleared. Next." The security officer barely let his words leave his mouth before saying 'next'.

Jeff grabbed his hovering luggage from the hover belt and continued on to to a door that lead to a horizontal elevator that would take him to the boarding tower that was attached to the Aurora and held it in place. Jeff stepped onto the massive platform that was the elevator and once enough people had gotten on, it automatically began zooming down a large glass corridor. Jeff got a really good view of the entire space dock. He had never really seen the immensity of the station since he hadn't traveled much except the few times he went with his family on vacations to Mars when he was too young to remember.

Jeff let out a low whistle as he observed the massive line of various ships all docked to the side of the station's exterior forward deck.

Before Jeff had fully taken in the view, a dark shadow came over the glass corridor. He turned around to see the Aurora in all its glory as the sun became blotted out by it. The ship was much bigger up close than he had initially imagined when viewing it from the waiting area. The elevator slowed to a stop and everyone began stepping off the elevator into the boarding tower's main room. Here, several corridors went directly from this room into the Aurora's boarding bay. Above each corridor was a label that identified a class. 'Engineer', 'Pilot', 'Administrative', 'Medical', 'Communications', etc. Jeff was a simple engineer who specialized in PRAWN suit maintenance. He had always wan'ted to pilot one of those things, but all he got to do was repair them which Jeff still enjoyed as much as a hovercar referbisher would enjoy fixing up old hovercars. He stepped into the corridor labeled 'Engineer' and walked down the long hallway until he came into what looked like a large cargo bay where there seemed to be crew members directing people to their assignments. As a group of people went off to the left, Jeff saw a crew member appear out from behind them.

"Engineer?" He said simply.

"Yeah, PRAWN maintenance and repair." Jeff replied.

"ID please."

Jeff used his free hand to retrieve his Alterra passport from his pocket and gave it to the man.

"Alright..." The man looked at the ID, glanced down at a PDA, and scrolled down a list. "Alright Jeffery Masterson, PRAWN personnel are to report to deck 5, Living Quarters branch 17. Head off to your left and follow the signs. Your room number is 119. Place your ID's bar-code up to the scanner to unlock the door. If you get lost, just find a computer terminal and pull up a map of the ship."

"Alright, thanks." Jeff said. The crewman simply looked past him to the next personnel coming in behind him.

Jeff headed off to the left where at the end of the cargo bay was a door that lead into a hallway. Once he reached the door, he saw an elevator at the end of the hall and quickly made his way toward the people piling into it. The doors shut behind him and a woman closest to the elevator's terminal began punching in numbers and asking people what deck they were going to.

"And you?" she asked Jeff.

"Deck five." he said.

After a bit more asking around, she finally entered all the decks everyone would be going to and the elevator starting going up. After several stops, Jeff finally came to deck five and exited the elevator into another set of hallways. A sign on the wall directed him to his left for Living Quarters. He made his way down several long hallways occasionally passing by a crew member that seemed quite enveloped in their work.

"Hey does anyone know why my Crew PDA is using the Vanilla 1.0 OS?" A crewmember called behind Jeff as he passed by him.

A reply came from some where down the hall behind him. "You musta been issued an older PDA, Thomas. Relax, its only one version older. I hear 1.1 isn't much different anyway."

Eventually Jeff came to the Living Quarters hallway and he started counting down the door numbers. "123, 122, 121, 120, Ah, here's 119."

Jeff took out his ID and placed it in front of the wall scanner and after a split second, the door unlocked and an automated voice chimed, "Welcome aboard."

The interior was very meager. A shelf, a bed, some wall lockers and a chair with a small shelf sticking out of the wall next to it that Jeff assumed was a table. He dropped his things and picked up a PDA that was sitting on his bed. As he turned it on, a loading screen appeared and an automated voice came over the tiny speaker in the handle of the PDA.

"Welcome to the Aurora personnel 119. This PDA will serve as your work PDA. DO NOT mistake it for your personal PDA. This device will only be used for work. According to launch schedule, you are not required of anything at this moment. Please standby for bridge orders. In the meantime, make yourself at home! Alterra Corp. hopes you enjoy your time here."

Jeff plopped down onto his bed and spoke to the PDA. "Work schedule and mission length?"

The AI replied. "2,941 hours of work time estimated to be in your schedule and flight is estimated to take a maximum of 2 to 3 years."

Jeff let out a long sigh. "I better relax while I have the chance."

End Chapter 1

I hope you guys enjoyed! Don't worry, things are going to get a whole lot more interesting!

I've been looking around on the internet, and I've been unable to find a proper list of all the creatures that can get the Kharaa in-game. Is it limited to Reefback Juveniles (the only ones I've seen), or can adults get it too? Is it possible to find a Reaper with the Kharaa? Or a Sea Treader?

After the previous changes to the bio reactor the nuclear reactor was left behind with nothing special about it to be a considered as an option to power up your base so why you aren't using ,it what can the devs do to fix this, write it down below

Now whether the changes will be added post or pre 1.0 is fine by me as long as they consider giving it a bit of a buff

Borealis Rising - A Subnautica Story, V2.0.

CHAPTER ONE

Unlike a certain Mr. Samuel L. Clemens, the reports of my death are entirely accurate.

Alexander Fergus Selkirk lived to the ripe old age of 115 years, and died three times in the process. We're not talking about any 'dying on the operating table'- type deaths, either. The first time, I blundered into the path of a hungry Stalker and paid the price for my singular lack of caution. All things considered, I got off extremely lightly. Having a working Valkyrie Field in the Lifepod gave me a second chance, and I dare say that I learned a valuable lesson from that experience.

Considering that this planet is essentially a heaving mass of aquatic life forms with a marked taste for human flesh, it would serve you well to keep your wits about you. If you've accessed my earlier log entries, you'll probably be aware of the most prevalent threats that planet 4546B (a.k.a 'Alpha Hydrae IV' or 'Manannán') has to offer. I have done my best to provide a broad assessment of each alien species encountered so far, including their general appearance, typical behaviour patterns and perceived threat levels. Please be advised that this information is by no means complete and highly subject to revision, since this planet has entered a state of accelerated evolution. It is entirely possible that new life forms are appearing even as this account is being written.

Yes, you did read that last sentence correctly.

My second death was a rather more unpleasant surprise. Approximately eight months after Aurora crashed on this planet, a Torgaljin Corporation commercial frigate arrived and commenced highly secretive operations near one of my undersea bases. Since I had already launched a deep-space distress beacon by that time and the frigate De Ruyter had made no obvious attempts to contact me, I became immediately suspicious of their intentions. A few days later, a Torgaljin security team entered my base and I was murdered by their leader, Invigilator Galen Tomar. After being restored to life by the Valkyrie Field, I commenced a retaliatory action that culminated in the destruction of De Ruyter and the loss of its crew. This particular outcome was not at all intentional, although the follow-up operation against Torgaljin Corp's base in the Lava Castle was entirely successful and no further human lives were lost during our assault on this facility.

As for what happened to the inhabitants of the Torgaljin base in the aftermath of that raid, I can only speculate how events might have unfolded. As the Lava Castle base has been effectively isolated for the past hundred and two years, I am understandably reluctant to carry out a detailed reconnaissance mission in order to ascertain whether anyone is still alive down there. Camera drones have been sent there on several occasions, although they were deliberately made to be unable to operate the base's airlock controls. My greatest concern is that Torgaljin personnel might capture a more sophisticated drone and begin reverse-engineering its more accessible components. Considering that I took particular care in completely shutting down Torgaljin's illegal operations on this planet, I had no intention of handing over what amounted to an instant technological advantage. They were slapped down hard, and I want those bastards to stay slapped down.
Permanently.

[BUG][VR] Spawned in the lower level after docking into the cyclops [59783 steam]

$

How to reproduce:
  1. play in VR mode (seated, in case it makes any difference)
  2. get a cyclops and a seamoth (prawn not tested)
  3. pilot the seamoth and dock it to the cyclops

To repeat from a docked seamoth:
  1. enter docked seamoth (seamoth exits dock)
  2. exit seamoth
  3. re-enter seamoth
  4. re-dock

This exit-and-re-enter-seamoth step seems to be the one triggering the issue most reliably.

Effect:
Once docking animation finishes, player gets spawned in the world, but not on top of the seamoth.
Out of 4 tries, I was spawned:
  • 3 times in the bottom half of the cyclops, with the cyclops rolling (in pitch/yaw/roll sense) more or less severely to the right
  • 1 time I got spawned outside of the cyclops, and the cyclops launched into the air. To give an idea about how "launched" it got: I was above the jellyshroom cave entrance closest to the aurora, on the border with kelp forest, and the cyclops landed on top of the aurora, between the engines, a overhanging a bit from the back of the aurora. Too bad I did not think to screenshot...

Entering the seamoth seated and standing up right before docking does not improve the result: viewpoint is higher above seat/ground both before and after docking, and I still got spawned in the lower cyclops level.

Can you load a previous save?

I had a problem where I have again fallen through the sea floor (I've built 4 sea moths and 2 prawn suits, all but 1 sea moth have had these issues) and in this new fun times it even thinks I am in air/on land so I can't even swim upwards so I just keep falling.

Problem is I accidentally saved instead of just exiting in a moment of panic (no judging please, I was trying to keep a cat from puking on my nice clean laundry ) and want to know if there is there anyway to get a previous save, because I am quite literally stuck falling into a black nothing, but in 'air' so I can't even drown and get to a safe spot/base.
I was literally just mapping out the 4 warp gates in the main base and going to go meet the sea emperor, so I really don't want to start over. Last time I fell in the prawn like this, at least I could restart - but I did wait till it exploded from the pressure (which was 7014 m in case you're curious) so I could restart then from a previous save and just lose all of an hour's progress, but this isn't even the first time this glitch has happened to me.

Honestly I have had so many glitches that I'm getting pretty pissed, and imo this game seems to not nearly be ready for wide release with so many issues, but I have some this far b/c a friend loves this game and keeps telling me to keep at it so I have for her - looking back this was probably a big mistake and honestly unless they fix quite a lot of problems this will def be a one off game for me,

So please help b/c I don't want to hate the game, but this game is making it really hard not to

also I am playing through steam on comp - not a console
