If you want to stand on top of the food chain - you need learn from the best and get even better than them.

Hint: Some of these tutorials are focusing on competitive play in ns2 (6vs6), but they are still extremely helpful for normal pub-play! The main difference is that mistakes will be more forgiven on a pubserver.

More basic Information can you find on the official Natural Selection 2 Wiki Page.

10 days left...

For those of you who don't know, in celebration of Subnautica's release, UWE is holding a Livestream when it releases.

And, as of the posting of this thread, it is exactly 10 days from the full release.

This has no other purpose but to hype of the community.

It's only 10 days until this insane ride is over.

Through the ups of the first Aurora explosion and the Terraformer, to the downs of the No-world glitch and the Summer of the Missing Framerates, Subnautica has continued to be one of the greatest survival games I've ever played.

I wish luck to Unknown Worlds in improving this game and any other future games you make.

And I wish special luck to all of you who are planning to do a full run through of the game. May the Reapers be quiet and your Peepers be delicious. :)

Mod to add "live" mapping to Subnautica (v0.9)

I've created a mod that allows you to display a map in the Steam Overlay that can display various pieces of information.

Caveat 1: A lot of the game revolves around exploring, so using this map should be considered a spoilers.
Caveat 2: Should the devs ever decide to add some form of auto-map or other in-game map, I'll most likely retire this mod.

Motivation

I tend to get lost a lot in Subnautica. Exploring is great fun, but once I've found something, once I know where something is, I really want to be able to find it again. Beacons help a great deal, but for some things, like resources, when I don't have a beacon available or when I simply want to know which way to turn to get to a biome a map is invaluable.

If I were really trapped on 4546B I'd definitely be drawing a map, pinning it to wall in my cyclops, or drawing it in AlterraPaint on my PDA.

This mod is my personal answer to not having an in-game map. I'm making it available as I'm sure there must be at least one other person that would like an in-game (ish) map.

Capabilities

Update Feature List
 • Works in a web-browser (chrome), and hence in Steam Overlay.
 • Displays the current player position (icon, coords) and current biome
 • Displays all ping manager items on the map (beacons, signals, vessels)
 • Has multiple background layers (blank, biomes(default), lost river, etc).
 • Has a store of POIs, taken from the wiki, (off by default), for things like wrecks, degasi bases, vents etc. (very much spoilers, also probably out-of-date).
 • Displays a time of day indication. (v0.4)
 • Leviathan Spawn Locations map layer (v0.5)
 • Update wiki POIs (v0.5)
 • Can now switch layers automatically, e.g. for Lost River. (v0.6)
 • Support for Subnautica not in default Steam Library (0.7)
 • Improved Maps and more of them (0.8)
 • Displays player view direction (0.9)

Subnautica Idea's (Feel free to post your ideas!)

Hello Subnautica, I understand that it can take time, months or even longer to create large detailed structures but I do have some ideas so please hear me out! OK so to get started I think that we can all say that the submarines in the game are awesome! Others may not be so fond of them but to my perspective (and others) I think I can figure out that we would like some more vehicles, even though we have the Cyclops, Seamoth, and the Prawn Suit; but what if there were more vehicles, one's a little more interesting! So at this point I believe that you have heard of the 3 concept art submarines with the names being Manta, Draconis, and Shark <---(Not Official), so here is where this get's interesting so as you know we have the Cyclops which is not exactly made for the conditions of the Lava Biome, so since the Draconis is a very armored submarine it could serve some purpose there or even for encountering other powerful creatures such as the Sea Dragon, Sea Emperor, and even the Reaper Leviathan. http://i.imgur.com/iCszsQs.png <--- (Draconis Image Link)

Next up we have the Manta! Now if you look at the image the size looks Massive!; but in fact that is still not the biggest submarine that I am covering but we will get to that eventually! So the Manta is a very big submarine and in my perspective couldn't really be used as a usable exploring submarine, instead it could be used as a sub-base (Submarine Base), I say this because it has very large expanding sides which looks as if it could provide enough for 4 people considering that the living space is almost like a rounded out square. Now this would be a great submarine for those that can't build a base at certain depth and there main base (or other bases) are too far away so the manta could be used for an emergency base that would be big enough to provide enough living space to provide a Bedroom, Food supply room (Fish tanks and ETC), Storage room, and even possibly a room to be used for constructing! I believe that this would be a great idea since we can't always build a base but to my perspective the Manta still looks to be big enough to house the Cyclops with the Cyclops housing the Seamoth or Prawn Suit! http://i.imgur.com/S4gWnYo.png <--- (Manta Image Link)

For the third and final of my suggestions we have the one and only submarine, Shark! Now this submarine for sure looks capable enough to house the Draconis housing the Cyclops housing either the Seamoth or Prawn Suit (assuming the Draconis can house the Cyclops)! Now the shark would be great because even though if the other two submarines were to be implemented, they would still not be foreseeable to withstand the Sea Emperor. However Assuming that the Manta or Draconis can withhold the Sea Emperor it would still be a very nice submarine to have considering that you could be the king of the sea. Along with the implantation these submarines could be new technology to make them! Also another thing the Shark would be great for those who want to explore the Subnautica in deep depths that the Seamoth and Prawn Suit somehow would not be able to handle. Even though that the Shark is the biggest submarine by far it would be great for fending of those fierce Reaper Leviathans! The Shark would also be a great way to explore the depths of the Aurora or even Pre Cursor locations! Finally along with the Sharks Enormous size it could be used as a base just like the Manta except more practical for moving to locations. http://i.imgur.com/6O9Lze6.png <--- (Shark Image Link)

Anyways thanks for reading this Subnautica and I hope that you can take these submarines into consideration and possibly think of implementing them into the PC game whenever possible! I believe that it would an amazing improvement and update if these submarines were to be implemented into the game! Anyway's until then I will be watching closely for more updates to subnautica (PC)! Thank's. P.S. If you could, please send me details of any info that you think of these submarines!

Anyone that has Subnautica on Xbox, can you update your review, or review if you haven't?

Borealis Rising - A Subnautica Story, V2.0.
By: Bugzapper (Lee Perkins).

CHAPTER ONE

Unlike a certain Mr. Samuel L. Clemens, the reports of my death are entirely accurate.

Alexander Fergus Selkirk lived to the ripe old age of 115 years, and died three times in the process. We're not talking about any 'dying on the operating table'- type deaths, either. The first time, I blundered into the path of a hungry Stalker and paid the price for my singular lack of caution. All things considered, I got off extremely lightly. Having a working Valkyrie Field in the Lifepod gave me a second chance, and I dare say that I learned a valuable lesson from that experience.

Considering that this planet is essentially a heaving mass of aquatic life forms with a marked taste for human flesh, it would serve you well to keep your wits about you. If you've accessed my earlier log entries, you'll probably be aware of the most prevalent threats that planet 4546B (a.k.a 'Alpha Hydrae IV' or 'Manannán') has to offer. I have done my best to provide a broad assessment of each alien species encountered so far, including their general appearance, typical behaviour patterns and perceived threat levels. Please be advised that this information is by no means complete and highly subject to revision, since this planet has entered a state of accelerated evolution. It is entirely possible that new life forms are appearing even as this account is being written.

Yes, you did read that last sentence correctly.

My second death was a rather more unpleasant surprise. Approximately eight months after Aurora crashed on this planet, a Torgaljin Corporation commercial frigate arrived and commenced highly secretive operations near one of my undersea bases. Since I had already launched a deep-space distress beacon by that time and the frigate De Ruyter had made no obvious attempts to contact me, I became immediately suspicious of their intentions. A few days later, a Torgaljin security team entered my base and I was murdered by their leader, Invigilator Galen Tomar. After being restored to life by the Valkyrie Field, I commenced a retaliatory action that culminated in the destruction of De Ruyter and the loss of its crew. This particular outcome was not at all intentional, although the follow-up operation against Torgaljin Corp's base in the Lava Castle was entirely successful and no further human lives were lost during our assault on this facility.

As for what happened to the inhabitants of the Torgaljin base in the aftermath of that raid, I can only speculate how events might have unfolded. As the Lava Castle base has been effectively isolated for the past hundred and two years, I am understandably reluctant to carry out a detailed reconnaissance mission in order to ascertain whether anyone is still alive down there. Camera drones have been sent there on several occasions, although they were deliberately made to be unable to operate the base's airlock controls. My greatest concern is that Torgaljin personnel might capture a more sophisticated drone and begin reverse-engineering its more accessible components. Considering that I took particular care in completely shutting down Torgaljin's illegal operations on this planet, I had no intention of handing over what amounted to an instant technological advantage. They were slapped down hard, and I want those bastards to stay slapped down.
Permanently.

Loading save breaks power transmitter(possible workaround)

I built 2 thermal plants, and 2 power transmitters to bring power to my base. After loading the saved game, the final transmitter stopped sending power to my base. I was able to temporarily bring it back by opening the builder menu, and selecting power transmitter. Placing another transmitter closer to my base seems to have fixed it. (My first 2 transmitters were close together, since I didn't want to beam my power through terrain, so it may need all transmitters close.)

I'm playing on stable version, build 59302. The save was made a few updates ago, but the thermal plants and power transmitters were made today.

"Preparing the day's water ration, ahead of time, will help ensure against dehydration, and eventual death. "

This has bugged me for some time now. Shouldn't the word "eventual" actually be "untimely"? I know drinking water is good for you but you will eventually die regardless; it doesn't make you immortal.

Sailships

Hello,

i think it would be a cool Idea create some sailships. I mean the Ocean Surface Looks amazing and the Skybox is very beautifull but you see them only rare. But with some Sailships you can Sail between Islands and hey maybe you will add later Stuff that we can Explore Above the Ocean, maybe a Alien Facility or small Islands, new Aliens etc.

The Sailships Should be fast and it is also important that you catch the sailing feeling properly. Would be nice if you could fish from the boat. If you add weather effects to it, the whole thing could be fun. Possibly even attacks by Huge Kraken who want to grab the boat.

multiple bugs after 24 hours of play, had to start new game.

The game was playing well at first, but things really went downhill after I got the prawn suit.
First, the databox that is supposed to have the blueprint for the prawn suit drill arm will not open.
Second, i launched the prawn suit from the cyclops and it seems the floor had not loaded in yet because I just kept falling. At around 3k meters the prawn suit finally ran out of health...lol
Third, another time after loading the prawn suit in cyclops I started to raise the cyclops and poof, I was falling from 2k meters in the sky (where the cyclops and prawn suit now were)
Naturally for issues 2 and 3 I just exited without saving and reloaded.
But with 2 small bases, the cyclops, prawn suit and seamoth the whole game was getting very lagy. I often had to wait as long as 10-15 seconds for the sea floor to load in.
Also, the blue semi-transparent angel like creatures sometimes turn into large black blocks.

I've started a new game in hopes that by progressing faster I can get further along without the game becoming unplayable.

Hey Devs, would you consider making creature plushes? Knit Rabbit Ray here as example

Cutefish stuff

The cutefish is near. I just want a way to take the little adorable fish on the rocket with me ;-;. Like an optional part that lets you bring it with you
Also maybe some pipes you can build in bases that lets the cutefish be inside your base ;-;. Also it would be nice if it could be immortal so we can't see it die

If you do thx and have a good day :)

[Experimental] No more water clipping thru bases built at sea level !!

At final long last, this accursed bug making water clip thru our bases that were built at sea level has been vanquished! Can you guys believe its been almost 3 years now that building bases was introduced in the game, how time flies by fast! This bug seems to have been fixed as of build 59503 in the Experimental branch. For those who have not seen this fix in all its glory, heres a screeny i took earlier:

Im a bit amazed at the fact we had to wait almost 3 years, which is about 10 days before official Launch, to get a fix for this .... but at least we have a nice surprise for launch!

To explain the idea, when whales die they create a 'whale fall', a place where their decomposing body landed is eaten by critters on the ocean floor, creating a tiny ecosystem and a creepy pile of giant bones as well
