So what about hive 2.0?

I get frame rate drops but someone with a similar PC build doesnt get frame rate drops

I bought subnautica yesterday on sale and to my surprise I am greeted with lovel frame rate drop. Dont get me wrong the game is in great standing but I just cannot get through the game with this issue. I swim towards a fish to grab it I get frame rate drop. It usually freezes for a moment then comes back and I check the counter and it goes from 100 to 35 back to 100. I can run every other game on steam fine except this one. and to make me think it is my pc issue someone with a similar PC build doesnt get frame rate drops. I dont understand if it doesnt happen on any other game and I know someone with a similar PC build who it doesnt happen to then why is it happening to me? I would really love some help to sort this out.

Thanks, Latiuz

(Spoilers) The Sunbeam

I've brought this up a few times in a few posts, but I feel it's time an actual Suggestion Thread gets made.

Some might know that you get a message from the Sunbeam, but they more or less say "Sorry, we can't help." The original message went as thus:
"This is trade vessel Sunbeam. Aurora, we've recieved your emergency transmission and your co-ordinates have been recorded. Wish we had better news for you, but we just aren't equipped to assist you at this time. We're anticipating arrival at the nearest starbase in approximately 461 earth days, that's four, six, one days. We will at that time pass on your emergency message to the appropriate corporate authority. You hold on in there, alright? Sunbeam out."

Some time later, this gets swapped out for them deciding to take a closer look and then get vaporized by the same thing that brought you and the Degasi down.

There's been some suggestions about the Sunbeam being explorable, or dropping new pieces of wreckage to explore, or seeding the map with more Scrap and stuff to scan.... I want to suggest something different. I want to actually be able to save the Sunbeam, where we couldn't with the survivors of our own ship. They survived, but then were killed off by one means or another. Even if we were around for their landing, that would mean more work for Unknown Worlds in the form of having to implement other characters and their AI and interactions with them and so forth. We never had the chance to help out there, we could only listen to the PDA's they left behind. We do have a chance to make a difference with the Sunbeam though, there is a possibility there.

In my current game I had managed to make it down to the Lost River using just a network of pipes before the Sunbeam met its end. The game gives us time to explore and prepare for this, so I'm thinking that you should have time - if you're quick - to make it inside the precursor array and find out that it's not just some glorified telescope or unusual looking monument. After that, what then? Speed to the Aurora perhaps, find some terminal and repair it, then have your AI broadcast not a distress signal but a warning signal. It won't be easy. Chances are, unless you're a somewhat seasoned Subnautica diver, you'll still have the Sunbeam meet its premature end in the atmosphere of this planet. But you'd still have the chance to actually do something.

The Sunbeam will leave, give a farewell and wish you luck, and then you're back to being alone. Eventually you'll disable the array but by then the Sunbeam will have been long gone, likely not even in the same system anymore. A player unaware of the planned endgame might even think that they're stuck here forever now. If the Sunbeam being shot down was only there to reinforce the fact you're stranded, then this alternative would provide that same feeling. If it's to awe the player with the precursor's power, it's wasted on the Sunbeam when you consider that it took down your own massive ship with ease and the Sunbeam's only a tiny trading vessel. If it's there as just a way to show you the array and mountain, you could probably do so by looking through Aurora terminals as a possible alternative.

Several of my friends recently began playing Subnautica, and only one of them actually feared the game was going to end in just an hour of play when he hadn't even begun to stray far from the Safe Shallows and Kelp Forest. The others, who similarly didn't know about the array yet, didn't believe for a second that the Sunbeam was actually going to get you off the planet. There's just no way the game would end that quickly when things are just starting.

That's my suggestion for the Sunbeam. Give us an alternative path here, one where we can save lives for once rather than simply read about the aftermath (The Degasi), know that we were too late to make any difference (The Aurora), or just be forced to stand back and watch (The Sunbeam). It could be a difficult race against time, and to be honest it should be a difficult race against time. This would make an excellent achievement to earn when the game is near or reaches the big 1.0 release. Please give us this chance, even if it's only a small window of opportunity that's easily missed, at least let us have that small possibility of preventing more deaths. Let us save the Sunbeam.

Given there's a 40-min timer attached to the final message and their arrival, there's that chance that just maybe... There may be a chance that later on, something like this can be implemented.

[Crash/bug] game keeps frezeing at my 2st base

I desided to make a new base near where the floting island is so I can build my moonpool and for somereson every time I head a way form my base and come back with the stuff i need to addon to it, the game will freeze as I come to the top part of my base, the game freeze for about 45 to 65 sec and if it dont crash the game will start to play like normal and I can more all around the area with no trouble, unless I head a away from the base to get something.

http://pastebin.com/da2qgUWC Here is the output log form the last crash... I just hope I did it right.

Resources dont spawn in a Biome -- What can i do to fix this?

As in the title implies sometimes when i explore a biome there is literally no resources in them which is obviously a problem with the world not placing them in a certain biome. Is there something i can do to fix this? Up until now whenever i encounter this problem i just delete the savegame and start a new one which fix this but im sure there is a more easier way to do this without loosing the entire save .....

[Spoilers] The beauty of pipes

$

0
I'll start this off by saying I never liked the Pipes in the previous versions. In fact, I fully expected them to be cut from the game. To me, they were clunky to use and were pretty much rendered obsolete with the Seaglide and Seamoth, although in my opinion at the time they were never useful to begin with. I spent more time fighting to get two pipes to connect than I did diving further down, and they took up inventory space I could have used for other things. Plus at any depth they would have been useful at, hostile fauna would join in on making my miserable experience even more so.

When the pipes got updated though, so much changed. I gave them another try, and actually managed to chain them to the seafloor in one go without struggling along the way. I began liking using them, and used them when building deeper bases early on in the game. That's when it struck me.... How far could I take this?

Every time I restart my Subnautica game, I like building my first base in a new location. Sometimes I start in the Safe Shallows, sometimes one of the Kelp Forests, I've built my first base on a cliff in the Scarce Reef overlooking the Grand Reef once (Using the seaglide, since this was before the pipes were updated), and a few bases were in or bordering the Grassy plateaus. This time though.... I wanted to do something really different. Without building the Seaglide or Seamoth.... I wanted to build my first base in the Lost River.

Taking the time to only get a pair of Fins and a Beacon to mark the beginning of my pipe-chain, I began collecting the resources to start off this crazy idea.
oc4xc427i7r5.jpg
I learned along the way that Warpers don't warp in unexpectedly and in random locations, but rather have specific spawnpoints and will warp in there, and then patrol along a short specified path before warping out. I got attacked a few times on the way down.

5j8jsbjjo6j5.jpg
Slight unrelated mini-rant about the Sunbeam messages I got during the descent here:
Seriously, I'm pretty irritated with this Sunbeam situation. How many people honestly expected to get an easy ride off the planet, maybe before they even got their Seamoth or first base built? The game's really going to be over THAT soon? Even without knowledge of the precursor array, you couldn't possibly expect the game to end when you've barely scratched the surface. No way could the game be that short. And then, you confirm that it wasn't to be that short. The Sunbeam comes in, gets shot down, and you don't have any say in the matter.

Why? To give the player a semblance of hope that they might get saved? Doubtful. As above, being saved so quickly would mean a huge part of the game gets unplayed, and having it end so suddenly would just mean the game's too short to really be worth playing for long.
Would it be to try and awe the player with the power of this tech? Again, doubtful. The Sunbeam's a six seater, and this tech brought down not only the Degasi but your own very very very massive ship as well. If anything, this power's wasted on the Sunbeam. Sure, you can see it in action but again, what's the point?

I truly believe that this should be one place where you as a player could and really should be given a say in the game's events. If the Sunbeam can pick up this distress signal from so far away, and even make some quick scans of the planet, surely they can pick up a signal - even an automated one from your AI - that warns them the planet might not be safe to approach. It doesn't even need to have to be easy, it can be a risky race against time to do so, and if you fail or decide not to then you get to see the small fireworks display as we currently have.

Back to the trench dive!

I continued working my way down, stopping to place a secondary branching pipe every now and then so I could refill my oxygen on the way back up to restock on Titanium for more pipes and on Food and Water... And after a while medkits too, since I had a few run-ins with Warpers and later Ampeels and Blighters on my trips as well.

zh4afg4jrqoy.jpg

A shiny piece of Kyanite on the ground, and an Ampeel that decided to shock me a few times in the background.

6z7ejm2f4gzl.jpg

Finally, I had arrived. The pipes had a little 'snag' on the border between the Blood Kelp Zone and the Lost River itself, where they refused to go more than a meter or so away from the previous pipe, and I was afraid that maybe it'd stop going entirely or stop producing oxygen. Thankfully, a few short-placed pipes later they continued to extend to their full length and continued to produce that precious oxygen.

I had made it to the Lost River without finishing scanning the Seaglide, without visiting the Aurora, and managed to do so before the Sunbeam reached the planet. Barely. On my final trip back up they gave the message they were approaching, and I wouldn't even bother going to the island. Even before I read about the precursor array, I knew this rescue mission wouldn't happen. There's just no way the game would give you an ending that quickly. After I learned that it would end with more unpreventable deaths, I was actually a bit unhappy. Something we could actually prevent if we're given the opportunity, and it ends up just making us sit and watch.

Anyway, so I was on my way back up to the surface, dodging the hostile fauna along the way. I had some lithium so I could make the reinforced plating to keep my first base intact, but what I did not have was a Bioreactor or Nuclear Reactor to power this base. I also didn't have a MP Room since I hadn't visited the Floating Island yet. I rarely visit the island right off the bat anymore, preferring to pace myself a little rather than beeline for the planters and MP Rooms.

So there you have it. The pipes are actually really fun to use now, and while some people did say they were always really useful.... I just never could get the hang of using them before. Now they're very simple to use, and actually look pretty cool.

I wonder truly how far one could rely on just a network of pipes alone, without the aid of a submarine or even a seaglide. This was an interesting "challenge" to take on, though a slightly tedious one as well - and please leave me alone crabquids and biters ;v;

Resource Balance

Hello everyone, I have been following this forums since H2O update but never posted anything. But today I wanted to talk about problems I have with current resource placement. This is purely subjective, not everyone will agree, however I believe you will understand what I mean here. For the start, I want to apologize for my English if something is not correct since it is not my primary language.
Through my life, mostly my childhood I always thought about creating my RPG or Strategy game. And as you all know those type of games require everything to be rightly balanced (resources, items, crafting, building, ...), so I spent a lot of time creating my shops with item stats and similar stuff so you can say I am kinda trained for the things I am about to talk:

Problems:
Firstly, I want to talk about Sandstone Outcrop. It seems that in the latest update there is increased amount of Gold that drops, it's like 50-50 Silver-Gold ratio (why?). From my experience, before this latest Precursor update, Sandstone used to yield more Silver than Gold (75-25).

Secondly, thing about Diamond and Lithium. There is certainly too much Diamonds in the game world. It is used in like 1-2 crafting recipes? Problem I have here is with pure placement of Diamond and Shale and Basalt Outcrops.

All this combined results in a huge amount of Gold stacking up in storage units. From Basalt we get Diamonds and Gold in (25-75) ratio. For every 4 Basalt Outcrops broken, we roughly get 1 diamond and 2-3 gold, in my opinion Basalt Outcrop should be removed and replaced with Sandstone and Limestone. And Shale outcrop should not drop Diamonds.

How would I solve those problems:
I would set Sandstone to 80-20 ratio in favor of Silver. Since diamonds are barely used, I would remove them from Shale outcrop, leaving them only in Obsidian outcrop. I will also remove all raw diamonds from Underwater Floating Islands biome and every other biome and place them in certain spots in caves in quantity of 1 to 3. An example would be a cave on border of Mushroom Forest biome and Koosh biome with underground volcano as well as many other cave locations. I think this would force players to explore caves more and game in general. I would reduce the number of raw lithium placed in Mushroom Forest biome and other locations so that Shale Outcrop gains some importance. So getting lithium would be combination of reduced amount of raw lithium and Shale outcrops. Silver purely from Sandstone. Diamonds from hidden caves and Obsidian Outcrop. And at last, famous Gold would be a little bit from Sandstone and mostly from Shale Outcrop, because I believe that gold in general should be harder to obtain. Basalt would be completely ditched from the game and replaced with Limestone and Sandstone, so that when we build our base for example in Grand Reef biome we have enough titanium, copper and silver to build our bases. And in the end, even after all of this, if one of above resources ends up filling lockers a bit more than the other, I would just put that specific resource in more recipes, for example Copper or Gold when crafting Computer Chips because it makes sense. I think Uraninite Crystals are okay, maybe could be placed a bit deeper..
I hope i wrote everything I had on my mind...

I also hope all this makes sense because if i try to get Lithium or Diamond from Shale i get some Gold, if i try to get Diamond from Basalt i get a lot of Gold, and now I get same amount of Gold and silver from Sandstone. Gold everywhere, and we need like 25-30 pieces to build everything.

After breaking 15 Sandstone Outcrops:

So, do you think these problems exist and how would you solve them or I am just insane?

XBOX UNOFFICIAL BUG POST
Started this Post originally to get the ball rolling didn't realise how many would respond, so if you have bugs that are not on the list just mention it within the comment section below, depending on free time and playing subnautica it may take me awhile to respond or even update the list, thanks from a fellow subnautica fan for the help guys. Hopefully the major bugs will get fixed and help get the game running smoother in the foreseeable future

BUGS

- any building block's I place that goes through or slightly into the reef/ rocks & plant life will be Terra formed as expected but if you load or come back to the Area after a journey it will go back to its original form and glitch through the building block deny access through walkways etc.

- when a breach floods your base fish will swim through or spawn in the base, even found fish swimming/ floating even without a breach. while in the Cyclops/ big sub if you hold a snap block/ base building item's while in the sub it did a 360 spinning around demolishing anything in sight.

- found wreckage parts, doors, flood lights and reef parts floating in the sky.

- frame rate issues

- game crashes often even more so while playing in creative (to as expected)

- picking up alien fish even while directly next to it does not work sometimes (hit box to small?)

BUG LIST UPDATED [18/05/16]

- Giant Iceberg salt, randomly spawning - [xNeil_Armstrong]

- a glitch that rarely occurs, but sometimes icons, HUD and menu is invisible even when you pause in game (requires you to reboot the game and load a previous save) - [Herjolfr]

BUG LIST UPDATED [19/05/16]

- Crashed while in the seamoth to where it looked like I was on the edge of space treading water. No amount of restarting fixed it. When I finally died a hour later due to dehydration, I spawned back where the life pod was with my vehicle bay and lifepod gone. I didn't see the seamoth beacon either. Restarted the game -

- Third game crashed while I was next to the aurora and out scanning fragments. When the game reloaded I was back at the pod. The base i built and my vehicle bay were gone and again I didn't see my seamoth beacon -

BUG LIST UPDATED [09/06/16]

- Hi I am new to the game on Xbox. I wanted to report that the game also crashes while being in the main menu just sitting in idle. I wanted to pause the game in the main menu and come back later. I tried if it was accidental but the game crashes every time while idle in main menu. It does it within an hour and quite some turns now. - oelikoelie

- I found that fragments in my game despawn mid-scanning period when I'm bitten by a Biter. Really annoying, 'cause I really need a mobile vehicle bay. - Darwin-Evolution

- it only happened once but I tried to get into my base via moonpool but when I went into it, I fell through the base and landed on the ground (underwater) like I was on land. Only for me to realize that my oxygen was not going down and I was walking underwater (like my base) and I had to climb up to my hatch to "leave my base" - trainman16

- sometimes if I look down while I am in my base it slows my walking speed to nearly 5% - Melinity

- As soon as I finished building a multi-purpose room the game crashed and I lost all of my data, the game denies that I have created any saved games - Rawrr

- I just sealed up the radiation leak and decided to head home. Upon entering my base you could constantly hear the sound of your character obtaining air from the purple brains that release 3 bubbles of air every now and then. - destinykid

- Glitch threw sea-moth while docking into moon pool causing you to sink until you hit bottom. - JONNYK301

- Your base will become transparent while in the Cyclops. - Olympicwolf

- closing bulkheads crashes the game - bbot0625

anything else that comes to me I will update this post, also anyone can contribute to the list, I know its a preview and all just here to help, also to note I will have no idea if and when these bugs are fixed (guessing after a bug update in the near future) so when that happens I will keep it up to date.

Why do more skilled games feel marine sided when statistics show that aliens win more often?

$
0
0
I was having a conversation with @Wob the other day where he expressed that more skilled games felt marine sided. This is something I have heard often from skilled players. Interestingly enough, the data does not support this. Given the slowness of these forums from the holidays, I thought I would make a thread to discuss it.

Using the combined data from the following wonitor links these are the winrates.
  • In all data recorded with 12 or more players, and without comp mod; there were 65,816 games played. Aliens won 51%. Marines won 49%.
  • In games with 12 or more players, without comp mod, and with an average server skill of 1800 or more; there were 1,965 games played. Aliens won 50.5%. Marines won 49.3%.
  • In games with 12 or more players, without comp mod, and with an average server skill of 2250 or more; there were 111 games played. Aliens won 51.4%. Marines won 48.6%.

Admittedly, winrates only tell part of the story and are not always the best measure. Still though, a player experience I hear often does not match the outcome recorded in the data.

Why do you think the anecdotal player experience does not match up with the outcome shown in the data?

Reorganizing power storage items and mechanics?

$

For most of the beginning of the game, you're stuck with the Seaglide, which heavily drains batteries, and crafting batteries constantly means using materials that could be spent on more higher tier items or progression. Your tools also now use batteries since a few builds back, and finding the battery charger fragments can sometimes be a little difficult, considering there is (afaik) no map or data information on the PDA to assist locating other fragments, and certain items that would assist in long distance or deep depth travel are not available until somewhat much later.

Would it be a good idea to either make batteries last longer, or to lower the power consumption of pre-existing tools?
Feedback is appreciated.

Craftable Teleporters

I have noticed that you can scan the Precursor Teleporters but there doesn't seem to be a blueprint to craft one (of my knowing) so what if there was?

The idea is that you are able to find Teleporter Fragments you will need to scan three fragments to have the blueprint these fragments can be found in Wrecks and to craft them you will need:

2x Plasteel Ingots

2x Computerchips

4x Titanium

1x Diamond

I have tried to test posting images by dragging them in the post or copying them into the hyper link and image URL but when i click preview it does not work so any help will be appreciated thank you

Also if you like tell me what you think of this idea.

Damaged save file?

After finally getting a PRAWN, I saved the game and closed it out. Now I come back and it says Damaged Save File, it never would load, exceeding 500 seconds load time. If my game is dead, I really hope there's a way to take all the progress and put it on another save file, because I could in no way get all those probably 15 blueprints I didn't finish back, and my prawn, and my seamoth, exploration of all the aurora, and lots of progress.

Pressure and diving deep update

$

Ok...its complicate to discuss realistic handling with diving deep, water pressure and everything in connection with that in a fictional game but in my option there could be a more realistic "game pressure update"
It's not logical that the nonupgraded seamoth gets demage under 200 m but the play can swin under with a normal diving suit 200...300...400 m
It's even not realistic to use the air bladder for deeps over 100 m without getting hurt or become ill by nitrogen narcosis.
My suggestion are a more realistic feeling with water pressure. So if you want to explore deeps over 100 m you need to upgrade your diving suit like you use to do with the seamoth and other vehicles. To fast surface will get you a nitrogen narcosis and demage.
Exiting vehicles over 300 or 400 m will kill you of pressure unless you don't a an upgraded diving suit. More than 500 m are only discoverable with vehicles. What do you say?

Hello,

I have some suggestions for Subnautica:

- Craftable Nutrient Blocks
- Usefull Coffee Vending Machine - e.g. regenerates health / water / food
- Usefull beds - e.g. regenerates some health
- Useful lab equipment / lab container - e.g. a kind of science update to get more information from flora and fauna
- create some kind of pheromones to draw fish
- create some kind of drugs to tame predators like stalker for pets
- Weather system with rain, wind and waves
- current / steam / underwater vortex
- Regeneration of standard material like quarz / salt
- Regeneration of fish / coralls
- Some kind of map function with markable areas still discovered
- more and different alien lifeforms on islands
- underwater stations with own signal - no more beams needed
- Usefull observation room
- scannable eggs
- drones from scanner room with much wider range
- more scannable items / materials from scannerroom
- signal from empty life pod disppear when discovered
- scanable small shrimps
- discoverable / scannable fragments / wracks of sunbeam

Strange Rock-Wall-Glitch-Thingy

I was exploring the Lost River with the PRAWN and Cyclops. When I came back to my homebase, in the safe shallows(yes I'm boring, I know), I saw this....horror.

It's like a giant rock, with the Aurora inside. I can go through it with no problem, but I can't see through it. It also goes straight through two of my rooms, in my homebase.
From a gameplay perspective, it doesn't change anything but it's very annoying to see that going straght through the ocean.

I have no idea how that happened, everything was good when I left. I tried reloading, but that didn't fix it.
I enabled the invulnerability-god-mode-command, so I could go out to the void and not get blown up by the Reapers because I hoped that if I'd go far enough out, the game would rebuild the area when I come back and this wall would be gone. It didn't help at all.

So, if anyone could help me understand how this happened and much more importantly, how I can make it go away, I'd be very grateful.

Regards,
-me

Subnautica is currently in Early Access and as such you may from time to time encounter bugs and in the worst case, crashes. If you have issues with stability of Subnautica, please post your issues with as much detail as possible (video/screenshots/descriptions), followed by the following requested information:

Example Topic Title:
[Crash] Open my Locker and Crash! [Version Number]

1) Please run dxdiag.exe (search windows for it) on your systems and hit the button 'save all information' in the bottom right. Save this file for later.

2) Navigate to your Subnautica Folder in Steam (should be steamapps\common\Subnautica)

4) Upload all the text of these to something like http://pastebin.com/ and post the public links to them with your forum posts.

These 2 files will GREATLY help us in tracking down issues with Subnautica. Thanks!

Edit by Jonas:
We've also got a very similar guide with pictures for each step on Steam.
And as in every good tech support:
  • Please make sure that your Windows is up to date.
  • Please make sure that your drivers are up to date.
  • Please make sure your PC meets the minimum system requirements.
  • Please close all other applications before starting the game.
  • Have you tried turning it off and on again? ;)
